Football mother who's sick of freezing....Warm, waterproof, weatherproof coat

As the title says really. I need something to stop me getting soaked and freezing whilst watching my children's matches...
Budget £200 but ideally less and any bargains appreciated.

Nothing petite as I'm 5ft8, and a size 12. Thanks 😊

I have just bought a north face parka for this reason, hoping for good things from it!

LittleGreenDuck · 17/09/2023 17:06

100% DryRobe. I know they're much derided on here for anyone who isn't using them for wild swimming, but mine has been an absolute game changer. Big enough to wear over a "normal" coat. Add long, warm boots and you'll be ready for anything.

I have children rugby in the mornings and the afternoons and can manage almost all bloody day on the sidelines.

Didrikson parka. But as PP say, also merino wool base layer and socks for extra warmth. The cold coming through my feet standing on the touch line! I now wear merino wool socks and muck boots (Arctic ones for extra warmth) or walking boots with a thick sole.

Dry Robes are very popular amongst the parents of our football teams. Thermal leggings underneath joggers, double socks and wellies, long sleeved tshirt, polo neck jumper and a thicker jumper over the top, bobble hat.

I also take a folding chair and a hot water bottle for my lap. I'm prepared 😂

I agree on ski trousers. Go a bit oversized but with dungaree/braces. Then you can tuck alllll the jumpers in and add a hot water bottle if needed in midwinter and you'll be toasty.

There's a reason I don't usually post on style and beauty 😅

I spend my winter standing on windy river banks as ds participates in the most spectator unfriendly sport which has a winter version of hanging around for hours to see your child go past you in a few seconds. IMO you need to put heat back into you when its just standing/ sitting around as you just don't keep generating enough. So a nice big coat (I have a Lands End squall which comes down past the level of my boots), rechargeable hand warmers (electric, not the sort you put in boiling water) up my sleeves (then the blood to your hands is warmed, much more effective, and when it gets really cold, a hot water bottle under my coat in a hottum.
Merrell thermal boots, merino socks, wrist warmers, big bobble hat, proper gloves. Thermos of hot drink as well. Anything hot (inc my flask of porridge) goes in an insulated shopping bag. Then I sit on the empty bag and it makes a huge amount of difference to the strike through.
DS has a dryrobe alike and once he is back off the water he needs the hot water bottle/ hand warmers and thermal cup of hot chocolate back.

Hottum

The Hottum will absolutely change your post-swim experience in the colder months. Designed to warm both your core and your hands, it's an adjustable, soft-fabric waist band that comes with a hot water bottle and has a built in, faux fur, hand-warming m...

Dryrobe. Not glamorous but omg it is a total gamechanger. Warm, windproof, waterproof and huge.

Agreed, plus Muck boots

spidermonkeys · 17/09/2023 18:07

Dryrobe all the way. It's the uniform for rugby mums!

D1nopawus · 18/09/2023 14:08

Reading this thread makes me want a dry robe. I don't actually need one. I just want one. I was going to say to look at heated clothing. a heated gilet under a dryrobe could work, no?

Also agree with others re warm footwear. I have some ridiculously ugly moon boots which are wonderful.

CMOTDibbler · 18/09/2023 14:45

@D1nopawus a heated something underneath would be amazing. I have a heated Regatta coat (which is OK, but too short for standing around in), but did buy this bad boy Warm Daddy for wfh last winter and it is bloody marvellous. Under a dry robe it could be the ultimate if you are shameless about being warm and is a very good price as it includes the power bank as well. My only downside is that the powerbank doesn't have a secure pocket to live in, so it slides out of the kangaroo pocket when you take the thing off
