If you have big boobs what do you wear on top in winter?

I've been going through the curated closet book and am trying to get together a few looks in well coordinated colours so I've always got something to wear.

My mail order haul has arrived and I'm so disappointed. I've done well with colours, pretty much everything goes with everything else and flatters me.

I'm struggling with the fit of jumpers. I've big boobs but a decent waist and wanted a few that I could wear with straight jeans. They all make me look matronly! Hulking chest and no waist, just no shape at all.

I went for plain colours rather than patterns, wanting some thing more classic, but I'm wondering whether that was the right move.

So, if you're busty, what do you wear to avoid being all boob?

Loving that phase eight batwing, I bought sone thin linen ones like that from there last summer, they're great as you say, loose but hug the hips which works for some reason.

Also wrap cardigans, I loved those when I was pregnant!

Just sent off all my returns this morning, still a few gaps in the wardrobe so I'll keep looking.

Shirts with a tank top/waist coat

Yes this works well for me as the tank top shows my flat stomach and waist, but the shirt then softens the look so it's less BOOBS, it's quite a casual look though.

I agree with this. I have to show my waist/flat stomach, otherwise I look big all over.

I cant wear batwing tops as they make me look huge - the bust looks twice the width! I have broad shoulders though so maybe thats why.

I've got big bobs but I like black turtlenecks anyway. I pretty much always wear some kind of thin black jumper in Autumn/Winter.

This thread may be a style saver for me. I managed for years in v-neck cardigans over camisoles, or longline cowl necks. Then menopause turned my waist into a doughnut of flab and I went from a classic hourglass to one of those fertility statues, all boobs and tummy. Love your flat tums, all you who have them! I'm clawing my way back but in the meantime all my old style tricks are failing and I look a real frumpy boobshelfy mess a lot of the time.

Will be investigating the jumpers. But has anyone with boobs and menopausal waist thickening managed jackets? By the time they go round, the shoulders are vast, if I wear them done up they pull and if not the two sides stick straight forward like open saloon doors on legs - not the look I'm aiming for

There’s a second hand cashmere jumper site which I stalk for v-neck jumpers (right level of v) in the right colours. They photo the jumpers on their staff, and tell you their size, which helps a lot in getting the right fit.

The Whistles slim fit jacket is my go to for work - has the right fit for narrow shoulders/waist and big boobs, and a bit of stretch. They do them every year in different colours.

klhfd · 16/09/2023 14:31

@ZonedIn do you have a link for the jacket please?

klhfd · 16/09/2023 14:53

@ZonedIn thank you, that's lovely

I’m a similar shape to you - big boobs, good waist - and I tend to size up in fine knit sweaters and tuck in. Boobs are covered but I still have shape.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/09/2023 20:55

I keep trying that Whistles jacket on, because it would be so useful. It's awful on me though - badly sized and the sleeves are made for orangutans.

ZonedIn · 16/09/2023 21:49

Mine is a couple of years old, and I did have to size down. Maybe they’ve changed the design?

GreyBlackBay · 16/09/2023 21:55

I have a few Jersey unlined stretch jackets. I think white stuff, m&s and landsend. Very hit and miss though.

I also have a few vintage blazer types and the cut is so much better, lots of paneling and darts. You usually need to size up though, best to ask for measurements, a size 10 20 years ago is miniscule compared to today!

Will be looking at that whistles jacket.

Thanks for the Whistles jacket tip. I will check it out. I have found jersey fabric jackets to look bulgey and saggy on me in the past but maybe a more upmarket one will correct for that!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/09/2023 15:04

Just bought a jersey blazer in M&S. The fabric isn't as nice as the Whistles one and I need to remove the shoulder pads, but it fits me better than the Whistles one.

MaybeMaybeNotish · 17/09/2023 15:10

Like others on here, fine knit V necks.
