What the hell will I wear if I can't wear Skinny Jeans or trainers?

Just a guess.

Other things.

Maybe.

And why do skinny jeans always be have to be 'prised from cold dead hands'?

I'm not being a dick, but when the question 'what does one wear in winter if not skinny jeans?' Comes up again.

The answer is: Anything. Yes, I get that the skinny jeans lovers all came of age in the late 90s when ridoncolous jeans were ubiquitous.

It's not binary wide jeans bad/skinny jeans good.

All jeans are good.

If you like jeans.

Jeans are something you wear to clear out the garage

meanderingbrook · 13/09/2023 13:46

@User19543785 what are you talking about? I don't clean out the garage!😂

meanderingbrook · 13/09/2023 13:46

Or clear it out even...

@Flyinggeesei234 You have dredged up a memory of standing at a bus stop in Birmingham in around 2008, wearing a very similar outfit to this. Dark grey, tailored, wide culottes, gorgeous black leather knee-high boots, a fine-knit, deep red jumper. Feeling very swish on my way to an office job. When an elderly, twinkly-eyed, Irish fella starts laughing and asking me about which horse I'll be riding in the derby.
😂

I get the humour. I am just worried that Batsheva will make an appearance soon as suggested winter wear. Ever-present danger in recent times.

I'd wear Batsheva at its most bonkers over skinny jeans any day.

This is perfect for winter.

Batsheva cashmere

Fall Winter 2023

Batsheva is a womenswear brand selling dresses, for party and housedresses, tops, skirts and pants with a Victorian and Prairie sensibility. The Snap Dress and the Smock Dress have become Batsheva staples.

I was right! 😀But you don't wear jeans at all, right @NatashaDancing?

That Batsheva cashmere is very much not my thing. I don't want to pay those prices to look like a mad clown at work. God, the model looks miserable and I don't blame her.

I love that culottes look upthread, but they look foolish on me.

I wear skinny jeans, straight jeans, bootleg jeans, carpenter-style jeans, chinos, skirts/dresses with thick tights, leggings.

Katiepoes · 13/09/2023 14:19

There's a Guardian article today suggesting you wear shorts all year round and just bring a blanket with you. Perhaps a solution for those that don't want jeans? Possibly you could fashion a Batsheva-like shawl with the blanket?

Unless the coat reaches the floor you're going to get wet. Ankles, calves etc.

That's where long boots come in. Or wellies, for walking. So useful that skinny jeans fit inside!

I do like a dark skinny Jean tucked into a black riding boot and I did hope a revival of this look was on its way. On a cold and possibly damp winters day it’s just the ticket.

Flyinggeesei234 · 13/09/2023 15:25

Oh that’s fantastic @CoolCalmCollected Made me laugh, yep, it’s a fine line!

Leggings

I have enjoyed almost the comments. I was being a little bit goady.

I've worn tweed wide legs for years, they don't soak water up to me knees. I wear jeans that don't soak water up to me. Even in the 70s, flares didn't soak water up. It was only 90s wide and long years that soaked water up. It was a very particular 90s style that encouraged capillary action.

That had never happened before or since.
