Guess my age

You know 10 years younger? I’m thinking of doing that, but on here with the MNetters!!

I think I look much older than I am and the way people talk to me suggests I’m right. I am obese and don’t drink any water or look after my skin so I’ve joined the princessing thread and so far I’ve lost a stone in 2 weeks! (Should’ve posted this pic 2 weeks ago 😂)

Anyway, please guess my age and please be brutally honest and then I’ll come back on here in a year and go again to see if I’ve improved myself! Don’t guess lower to be kind, as it will ruin the results. I want to see if looking after myself shaves the years off or not.

Hi @CutiePatooties - I’m just writing to give you a huge thumbs up 👍💪👍 for doing so well. I lost a LOT of weight on the keto diet. (65+kgs) It really works if you make it a lifestyle. I found that changing the way I thought about my diet - seeing it as an indulgent way of treating myself instead of a punishment really kept me to task. I fell off the wagon and put some back on, but I’m back on again and it will soon fall off. I’m only 5ft so can’t carry it. Also MUCH older so health risks are real. Thought I would share my before and after. (Tbh, the before photo is so old I know I put more on after that!)

You have zero skin ageing. You're in your 20s .

krisskrossfan · 12/09/2023 03:31

Confess I haven't read all of the responses here but I'd say early 20's, and you're naturally very pretty! I remember that programme and wish you all the best on your wellness journey.

@NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz Just wanted to say you look so healthy and happy in your 2nd photo.

Have no idea what the 'princessing' thread is all about so off to investigate that now...

I guessed mid 30s. My nieces are mid 20s so as much as your skin is great it's not mid 20s great.

You have a lovely face, so don't lose too much weight too quickly, if that makes sense.

Yes unfortunately a lot of weight loss will probably age your face, OP. Worth it for the good health, but something to be prepared for!

I think people have been way too kind here, but I took the first 100 guesses (that were an actual number and not mid-late answers) and got an average of 30 years old. I think my experiment may have been silly as thinking of it now, on the programme 10 years younger they judge the person in-person. I do think your guesses would be higher if you saw me in person. However, I’ll use the 30 on here with a photo and then see what average I get on here with a photo in a year’s time 😂

I’m worried about the privacy comment @GrazingSheep sorry if I’m being really dumb, but how do you mean?

I am not @GrazingSheep but anyone who recognises you in "real life" can now search your user name and see all your previous posts.

@CallieQ

I lost 10lbs at the end of week 1 and 5lbs at the end of week 2 so I lost 1 stone and 1 pound to be exact. I have lost that much, I have no reason to lie and I’m not sure what your problem is.

The bigger you are, the quicker you lose weight. This is because of the huge drop in calories. So say for instance someone of 10 stone eats 1800 calories a day (I’m just giving an example before a nutritionist says this can’t work out) anyway, say someone at 10 stone eats 1800 cals a day and drops to 1200 to lose weight, they are only dropping 600 calories a day. At my weight two weeks ago, I worked out I was eating around 3000 cals a day and I’ve dropped to 1200 so that’s an 1800 cal drop a day! That difference is as much as my 10 stone example eats in a day! Clearly dropping 1800 cals a day, you’re going to lose a lot very quickly. Obviously the smaller I get, the closer that 1200 will be to my maintenance calories so it will take a lot longer to come off as the weight drops off. Does that make sense to you?

I’ve also cut down on carbs significantly, so I’ve therefore lost A LOT of water weight. At this stage it’s not really fat that I’m losing, it’s water weight coming off… But I’m proud of myself either way and it’s motivating me to continue.

There are probably more reasons, but I’m no nutritionist. I’ve just used common sense here, which you clearly lack, judging from your comments.

Wishing you all the luck and good vibes on your weight loss journey. It's not easy but you have a great mindset already.

Good luck! Looks like you've made a great start already.

Your method of getting the age estimates is much more fair than 10YY, imo.
In the programme - as I'm sure you know - they used to get the first estimate by asking people out of earshot of the subject.
The second time, people give their estimates to the subject's face.
The fact they've had a lot of changes made notwithstanding, I guess most people will knock off a few extra years for the sake of politeness when speaking directly to, rather than about, someone.

Anyway, I for one am looking forward to seeing how things are in a year

Ramalangadingdong · 12/09/2023 09:16

You might be told you look older irl because you are curvy. People often just see size. Slimness is often associated with beauty and youth while overweight is associated with age.

unfortunately, I yo-yo and the local taxi company sometimes think they are picking up the daughter (me) or the mother (still me but heavier).

CutiePatooties · 12/09/2023 09:34

@Ramalangadingdong I know that because I’m so big, I wear baggy/frumpy clothing and always cover my arms and legs. I also have no style at all 😂 all through summer I just have one floral dress in different colours that have sleeves and are maxi dresses which just make me look shorter and stumpier, but I like to be fully covered when I’m out so people don’t have to see too much of me.

Although saying that, I do think people have been extremely generous on here as there’s no way I can pass as being in my 20s and I know that. I asked a colleague how young she thought I was (this was after she asked me the same about her) and she said ‘34,’ which I am next month, but let’s face it, when guessing someone’s age we do try to be polite and knock off a few years from what we originally thought. So she definitely started at higher than 34 and knocked some years off. I was expecting people on here to say anything from 35-45 but I really don’t think the picture is showing the flaws in my skin too well due to lighting. I do have two lines that go across my forehead for example and lots of big pores.

Yes, and the large amounts quickly is the worst thing for face and body (can be as little as half a stone). Filler might help with the face, but possibly not, as it's usually loose skin you see, where only a plastic surgeon can help. Posts here about that where people have needed lower face or neck lifts.

Just to advise caution, OP.
