Jones Road Miracle Balm- anyone tried it?

I’m 52 , looking for something I can use all over my face to make me look awake and fresh on Teams Calls . I WFH , so just do a basic , face brows and Vaseline on lips for work.
I’ve come across this, so any opinions would be great. And shade? I’m very fair, sallowish with dark hair and brows. Its pointing me to a rosy shade but I think that au naturel might be more suitable for all over use?
Would really appreciate opinions before I part with £36.00, doesn’t look like its widely available in stores for me to ask for a sample.

It’s the most expensive thing I have ever thrown in the bin. It’s smelly and greasy.

Thank you @SpottedHandkerchief and @LadyOfTheCanyon 😊

This thread prompted me to dig out my Revolution dupes.

I do rather like the way it looks. But if you've got hair that might blow into your face, you'll feel that it's sticky rather like vaseline.

I have my hair pulled back from my face and I'm happy with my glowy no-makeup look. I have all three shades on, with the golden one all over, the bronzey one for contour, and the pink on my cheeks and lips. I did my brows and mascara and I'm very happy with the look.

I'm 53yo and I do hate the way most foundation sits on my face.

TheFormidableMrsC · 10/09/2023 19:11

I tried the Revolution dupe and am reliably informed they are very similar products. It's basically just a big pot of lip balm and did absolutely nothing for me. I ended up giving it to my friend's 12 year old daughter.

I'd probably just use a good quality CC cream and some bronzer and put a pop of rose blush on your cheeks.

youveturnedupwelldone · 10/09/2023 21:26

I'm mid 40s, I hated it. Greasy, shiny, and made me break out (ive got sensitive skin got that tends to dryness!).

However I have a friend who is about 10 years older than me and she swears by it, it makes her look amazing - fresh and glowy. She has a few shades.

I've not generally got on with Jones road - I love the theory of it (it's what Bobbi Brown used to be when she was still involved in it) but the products don't work for me. The foundation breaks me out quicker than just about any product I've tried - usually takes a few days, this took 12 hours.

However - silver lining - their face pencils are amazing and I highly recommend them.

I’m going against the grain to say I really like Miracle Balm. Use a tiny amount, warm it in your fingers first, smooth with a brush if you want to use it as an all over colour.

Tried the Revolution dupe and really didn’t like it, synthetic and sticky, horrible smell. I’d recommend buying some sample pots of MB from eBay £4ish each and although tiny last for months.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 09/09/2023 07:26

Revolution do a fairly good dupe for £5.

Only JR is all natural oils and the 'dupe' is petroleum.

Look at the ingredients. They are nothing alike. Putting something in a similar pot and calling it similar names doesn't make it a good dupe

Redlarge · 10/09/2023 22:54

I tried my friends... awful.

TheFormidableMrsC · 10/09/2023 23:44

@ohboohoo I didn't say it did. My friend has both and said they were almost identical in colour pay off and texture. I haven't tried the Jones Road one but the Revolution one was shit 🤷🏻‍♀️

You have to use so little as you say, that I don't see how anyone gets any colour payoff other than with the two new intense coloured ones.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/09/2023 00:15

There is definitely colour pay off.

Some are highlighters though, Golden Hour and Magic Hour.
Bronze, Flushed, Miami and the other two, forgot the names are definitely pigmented.

drumbeats · 02/03/2024 07:47

NotQuitePerfect · 09/09/2023 07:47

@LadyOfTheCanyon i meant 😄

The revolution 'dupe' is petroleum based. It's like Vaseline. The JR miracle balm is all natural oils. The only similarity is the packaging. It's like saying fairy liquid is a dupe for (insert expensive natural facial cleanser)

I do wish the term dupe was applied correctly.

Mouthfulofquiz · 02/03/2024 07:52

I have it and really like it! I bought a pinky one and use it as a blusher. I do have quite dry skin so the texture is great and is not all horrible and matte.

50plusandfabulous · 02/03/2024 12:39

@MissKittyFantastico84 coming back on to say thanks ! Elf Halo Glo in shade 2 is fab for me just buying my second one now. .

Horrid !

MissKittyFantastico84 · 20/03/2024 12:54

Ah, glad to have helped @50plusandfabulous

It's a fab product, isn't it? I'm generally a huge fan of ELF products on the whole. Their Halo Glow powder is also amazing!

WC1mum · 22/04/2024 19:30

I think the Miracle Balm is great, and I've genuinely noticed that whenever I use it I get complimented and told how well I look by at least one person. But I'd agree that it is hard to select which shade is right for you. I am able to pop into the Liberty shop fairly regularly and so I have put quite a lot of effort into going there to trial all the shades etc (after getting over-excited on my first trip and buying one that turned out not to be the right colour for me but which I was able to then sell on Ebay).
So all the shades that have "hour" in their name are sparkly so probably usually used just for highlighting, and all the others are for all over face and neck but you may find like I did that the first colour I thought was right for me was not tinted enough so I went a bit darker for spring. There are videos on YouTube of Bobbi Brown explaining how to use it. Miracle Balm is really moisturising though granted the fact that it feels a bit sticky for the first half hour or so can be weird at first but I am completely used to that now and it makes me feel great that I am not drying my skin out the way I used to when I wore foundation. I have settled on Bronze and Sunkissed and use one or other most days all over my face and neck. Even though my skin is pale olive in winter, when I use Sunkissed people say I look as though I have been in the sun so it gives a tint but a very gentle natural one. The Bronze looks a tad "Donald Trump" when you first put it on your face but like all the colours, you just blend into your face with your fingers and they give you a lovely natural glow. I also have a mini pot in Flushed which I put on my cheeks. I've watched lots of women with all shades of skin applying different colours to their faces in Liberty, and it seems like anyone can use any colour, which is great and kind of revolutionary (but perhaps too many possibilities is a bit overwhelming at first). One thing I am not sure about is what it will be like wearing such a moisturising product in hot weather, I'll have to see as I first bought these last October and they've certainly been great to use all winter. I think have ditched using full foundation cover forever!
I also trialled and got really hooked on some of their other products; the face pencil is amazing (I use no 9) best face coverage I've ever come across in a cover up pencil or stick, and again, not all drying. Also recommend their eye shadow, I have patina, penny and so pretty, and all are gorgeous, as is the eye pencil I have in Ivy. Normally whenever I treat myself and buy a more expensive product I am disappointed with it within a week or two but that hasn't been the case with Jones Road which is why I've gone back and bought others.
Also bear in mind that if you buy a product on-line that you don't like, Jones Road will exchange it or refund you in full. I've emailed their team to talk about the products and found them really helpful. (But if you're like me and you have to try everything, several times, before you buy - being able to return things might not be that much of a help.)
I haven't tried the Revolution brand product people are recommending, it would be interesting to compare, but it doesn't seem to have the same quality ingredients as JR. Like someone else I also really recommend the It Cosmetics CC+Colour Correcting full coverage cream which I got in the large Boots, I just use this on my nose and chin to cover thread marks, but it works brilliantly and is also very moisturising. (the Jones Road WTF seems to be similar but because I'm so happy with IT I haven't really trialled WFT properly.)
So overall really positive and I'm really happy that at the age of 55 I'm finally finding some products I really like and can imagine using for many years to come (or until they discontinue them at any rate!). All the Best x

I will be trying Au Naturel as I thought it may give my tired skin a bit of a glow, they now also have a range of foundations that look very promising, anyone tested them?

Tulipsareredvioletsarebue · 12/07/2024 19:49

I dont think any of the dupes have anywhere near as good ingredients, although they may be end up looking similar on the face.

CauliflowerBalti · 12/07/2024 19:52

I have a tinted one. Agree with everyone that says you would NOT want it all over your face. It’s heavy and sticky.

I do like it. I like the glow it gives me. But it’s not worth the price. It’s a massive pot but it’ll go manky long before I’ve used it all up.

For an all over luminising glow, I like this:

If it’s just for Teams calls, the free option is to change your teams settings to ‘soft focus’ gives you a lovely youthful look 😀! Removes wrinkles and smoothes skin all without makeup

I have What The Foundation and absolutely love it.
I have dry skin and it drinks it.
Perfect for days when you don't want full make up but don't want to frighten people either.
I also have MB in flushed and a pinky bronze one ( can recall the name)
I would say the JR stuff for face feels like a treatment product in line with lots of the Korean stuff.
Also it is for mature skin
I'm not on tiktok but apparently 20 year olds were trying and hating it, when it's not aimed at them anyway

understatedeleganza · 12/07/2024 21:25

It's just good marketing that's all it is. Nothing special at all
