Pointed boots - how to get my toes used to them?

Podsandpeas · 06/09/2023 16:44

My very comfortable 7+ year old black round toe, block heel Clark’s ankle boots have finally said enough and has died. I decided to get something more sleek/trendy/fashionable/stylish?? to wear with smart skirts, dresses & wide leg trousers.

I bought these from H&M
https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1187868001.html

I’m not used to pointy & when I tried them on my toes started getting sore quickly. I like the look of them but not so much if they cause achy toes. Anything I can do to help with that?

Heeled boots - Black - Ladies | H&M GB

Ankle boots with pointed toes, covered heels and a zip at one side. Satin linings and insoles. Heel 7 cm.

You probably won’t like this… but the only advice I can offer is to avoid them. I used to wear a lot of pointed heels like this when I was younger (now middle aged). Bunions and misaligned posture are the result!

Podsandpeas · 06/09/2023 17:09

I’m middle aged too 😁I wasn’t planning on wearing them often. In winter I live in either my chunky Solovairs or Chelsea boots so this is for 1-2 days a week in autumn and spring.

Yeah I avoid too. Life's too short for sure squeezed feet.

Sorry, I’m a grump… I’ve had some painful physio this week and am probably feeling bitter about all the pointy shoes I still have but can no longer wear 😂

Sarahbumdaa · 06/09/2023 17:42

I size up

WhereAreWeNow · 06/09/2023 17:46

If they're uncomfortable, don't wear them. Is it too late to return them? Or sell them on Vinted?

caramond · 06/09/2023 18:30

Yeah, don't wear them.
I've been wearing minimalist/barefoot shoes (Vivobarefoot and similar) for years now and it's so strange to me how shoes are not generally made to accommodate our foot shape - which is why so many have bunions and other foot problems. Not worth it just to look trendy...

Podsandpeas · 06/09/2023 18:46

I can return them, I have not worn them out, only tried at home. I bought 2 sizes, my size, and one up because I wasn’t sure how the pointy part would fit. Both sizes hurt. A shame as it looks really good...when I’m standing still or sitting 😂

The other style I’ve seen loads of is the square or rectangular toe but I don’t like the look of them. My search continues!

Your feet will love you forever if you return them. No matter what you do, if they are not comfortable now I doubt they ever will be.

hdbs17 · 06/09/2023 19:10

Return them.

They're not worth it. Get another pair that are round toe and let your feet have some comfort.

Personally I think round toe boots look much nicer than pointed toe anyway.

yogibutton · 06/09/2023 20:13

OP, the reason that they are uncomfortable is that women's shoes are often made too narrow, the pointy ones are the worst and they are not made for real women's feet. I have a pair of pointy boots, only because by chance I stumbled upon men's pointy boots. And, in the same size as women's, they were comfortable!!! You basically need a wider base and toes barely going into the pointy bit.
[Note, I have very narrow slim feet]

Sidslaw · 06/09/2023 20:14

Why would you wear shoe that damage your feet? Get rid of them

Pleasenowthatsenough · 06/09/2023 20:22

I always find H&M quite narrow. Can you find anything similar in makes that maybe do a wider fit or come up a bit more generous.

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 20:35

Return them

eurochick · 06/09/2023 20:44

They look really narrow!

Sadly my advice with heels or points is to go up in price. The pricier brands generally shape the shoe better. But even some spenny shoes are shit.

wagnbobble · 06/09/2023 20:47

Another voice for ditch ‘em - I hold my 1980’s pointy shoes and heels responsible for my ingrown toenails and now bunions

DrNo007 · 06/09/2023 20:50

Bin or return them. No ‘foot look’ is worth ruining your feet and posture for.

Papillon23 · 06/09/2023 20:50

Yup, the answer is don't buy pointy boots.

Squashed toes are bad for the health of your feet.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/09/2023 21:08

Wide fit pointy shoes one size up are doable for average width feet. Insert an insole. I just bought a pair of boots for a bargain price. Unfortunately I needed the size up and they’re now oos. I’m gutted and will be returning them.

ineedtostop · 06/09/2023 21:20

Years ago I bought some pointy shoes which I thought were pretty chic. My DS was about 10 at the time. He saw me in them and fell about laughing. I asked why...don't you like my shoes? In between the gasps of hilarity he finally managed to say "nobody has feet shaped like that!" And in that moment the scales fell from my eyes... he's right. Nobody has feet shaped like that! No wonder they were so bloody uncomfortable. And apparently stupid looking too, if you hadn't had your head turned by fashion. Out of the mouths of babes...

Myhorseishoarse · 06/09/2023 21:26

Those shoes look so uncomfortable!!!!!!!!!!

Doggymummar · 06/09/2023 21:37

Plastic as well deffo return. They will draw your feet summat terrible

Podsandpeas · 06/09/2023 21:43

They’ve been packaged up and will be returned tomorrow!

Does anyone have recommendations for smart but comfy ankle boots with a bit of a heel?

WhereAreWeNow · 06/09/2023 21:53

I do wear pointy shoes/boots but they have to be soft suede, they have to be wide enough around the big toe joint, and they can't be too high. I've had very comfortable pointy shoes and boots from Clarks in the past. They always have a pointed ankle boot in the autumn. If you like the style, try a few different ones on that are softer/lower/wider.

I got a pair of Mar y Viento boots in the sale and they are out of this world. Mine were called Maia. They only had a few left though and they stopped advertising the sale so they were hidden on the website. Worth a look: https://maryviento.co.uk/products/the-maia-ankle-boot?variant=43955480363232
