How do you take off your mascara?

I'm curious to know! How does everyone remove their mascara?

I use baby wipes but it can't be good me pulling the mascara off or is that normal?
A cleanser smudges all the mascara onto your face and you can still feel bits of mascara on your eyelashes.

Anyone have any good tips?

Baby oil. It's cheap and it works.

Do not do this when it is sunny! I burnt all around my eyes and even the rims on. About 15 mins after doing this.

Gosh, that's dramatic. Ouch! I wash mine off.

I use a tubing mascara, I take it off with warm water and a microfiber cloth, comes off really easily, a gentle rub and it's all gone.

Yep, me too

@gravitytester i like the Clinique one. I'm also using a Maybelline one which I'm also happy with. I'm a convert. Search Mumsnet - there have been several threads on tubing mascaras with lots of good recommendations.

I use an oil based cleanser and it breaks it all apart. Then a wet flannel.

DeadButDelicious · 04/09/2023 09:28

@gravitytester I use F*ck Proof by Jeffree Star (I know he's awful, but his make up is really good 😶😶) I think it's really good, doesn't smudge and comes off very easily with warm water and a flannel.

Liz Earle. Cleanse and polish

Baby wipes? No. Just no

bunny85 · 04/09/2023 09:49

I use eye make up remover from Neals Yard. Put it on a cotton disk and hold it on the lashes for a short time before wiping away.

dullandgrey · 04/09/2023 09:50

Oil cleanser first. Use it for the whole face. Gentle, hydrating and gets it all off.

augustusglupe · 04/09/2023 09:51

Lancome bifacil
I soak 2 cotton pads and gently press on my eyes for a few seconds and then wipe.
I've used it for over 25 years and won't use anything else.

hdbs17 · 04/09/2023 10:28

I use a tubing mascara and always use Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish to remove it. I can run it across my lashes gently and then I leave the hot muslin on my eyes for a few seconds and then wipe away.

Another vote for baby oil

Blueey · 04/09/2023 16:12

Nivea eye make up remover here. It's great.

NecklessMumster · 04/09/2023 16:17

I stopped using baby oil after an optician said they could see it in my eyes during an eye test, put me off.

TotalOverhaul · 04/09/2023 16:21

I use Garnier soft cleanser on a cotton wool pad. Rub gently back and forward across the lashes.

Might try the micellar water now.

RememberWhy · 04/09/2023 16:24

100%. Best makeup remover in the world.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 16:29

Warm water, reusable pad, jobs a good'un.

(Tubing mascara.)

EraOfTheGrey · 04/09/2023 19:33

I've always used vaseline and like a previous posted stated it has an additional bonus of conditioning your lashes. When I wore makeup regularly I had ridiculously long eyelashes and I believe this was down to the use of vaseline.

Soap. Water. Done.

All these rituals are quite unnecessarily and possibly even unhealthy for people rubbing various oils on their eyelids.

When If you get a red bump on an eyelid, don't believe that is a chronic condition called Blepharitis. Stop rubbing oils on your eyelids and start cleaning them with soap at least twice a day.

I am Soapy McSoaperson. I LOVE soap.

Abd I love reducing the number of "products" in our lives and reducing plastic and going against the prevailing orthodoxy if the prevailing orthodoxy is stupid...

But Soap On Your Eyes?!

CoteDAzur · 04/09/2023 22:29

"But Soap On Your Eyes?"

Yes. Why are you surprised?

You touch your face and around your eyes a thousand times through the day, bringing all the dirt and microbes in your environment. Soap is the best way to clean away not only makeup but also the microbes and tiny mites (Demodex) that live on your skin.

Avoiding soap AND rubbing your face with various oils is a great way to support and increase the population of microorganisms on your face and eyes. And that in turn is likely to give you so-called "chronic" conditions such as blepharitis.

bakewellbride · 04/09/2023 22:39

Coconut oil and cotton wool

Nannyfannybanny · 04/09/2023 22:49

Vaseline, waterproof mascara,as I suffer from dry eye syndrome. It was recommended to me by a plastic surgeon. I'm 72, and have no crows feet. I remove it in the bathroom, using tissue which goes down the loo

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/09/2023 23:28

Remove all makeup with miceller water, then cleanse with the Inkey List oat balm and a hot flannel.

dreamcatchmee · 05/09/2023 07:34

Face halo. I swear it's magic. It's just a special sponge and you make it wet with water. Hold on the eye for a seconds and wipe. It's amazing and I haven't used make up remover in years!
