Van Cleef Sweet Alhambra pendant worth it?

I like the idea of having a nice necklace i wear daily. I love gold and mother or pearl and know the quality is excellent. There are so many copies though. If i am doing it i want the real thing. Just want experience of those that have it or if people think its worth it?

I think it's nice and I'm sure the mother of Pearl is beautiful. I think it's more showy for daily wear, but that could just be me 😀

I would buy it for occasional wear but then I haven't looked at the price yet.

Will check selfridges wonder room.

Thanks, layering good point and i like to do this. Do you have examples of what you layer the smaller one with?

Lab grown diamonds may as well be CZ.

If you have £1500 to spend you could get something incredible (and a lot better value) on vintage/auction websites.

Thanks. I liked the style and simple diamonds on a chain as an alternative but anything like that i would like to see in person. A trip to london is perhaps needed.

Its a classic, it will stay stylish and retain it's value well!

SheerLucks · 30/08/2023 23:27

When you see it on the model it's tiny. I would not pay ££££ for that...

With picture. Seems a great everyday necklace. It is expensive so need to justify it 🤣

This one's on my list! Absolutely adore it so would say get it 🥰

Forgot i follow a vintage company on instagram. Some beautiful pieces. You're right and might consider this too!

I mainly see WAGs and influencers wearing them, so I perceive them as having a bit of an ostentatious vibe...

I like it but they are so popular at the moment and there are so many dupes around I'd just think youbwere wearing a fake. I wouldn't but it will go out of fashion soon and you will have wasted your money.

But when the cheap knockoffs all fall apart and tarnish, and fast fashion moves onto another copy of a classic, the originals will hold their appeal ( and sparkle)

I’d know it’s real and its purchase had meaning to me so anyone assuming it’s a fake wouldn’t bother me.

UnicornSlippers29 · 30/08/2023 23:37

I have wanted that necklace for years and years. I love it! Buy it now because it keeps going up in price every year. Wish I would have been able to purchase it 5 years ago when I was first considering it!

theatrical · 30/08/2023 23:37

Ok I've now looked and it's a bit out of my price range. 😀

Beautiful though. I didn't know it was a popular, copied necklace

Appleblum · 31/08/2023 00:43

It's very nice but the Sweet size is very small, are you sure you wouldn't prefer the Vintage size instead?

lapochette · 31/08/2023 06:10

It's lovely, a classic that you will wear every day. It doesn't bother me about so many fakes you know yourself yours is the real thing. I'm not wearing it to impress anyone , I'm wearing it because I like it.

40thbirthday · 31/08/2023 08:08

Will try and see if i can compare sizes. Looking at pictures of the vintage it doesn’t look as big as I thought. Its another 1k though! Suppose you only live once 🤣

Why are you looking at WAGS and influencers if you disapprove of them so?

Salacia · 31/08/2023 08:47

I think it’s very pretty but as others have commented I’m not sure how much you’re paying for the name? The other thing I’d maybe think about is if you literally want it as an every day necklace then mother of pearl might not be the most robust/hard wearing (although I’m sure the shop can advise!).

Salacia · 31/08/2023 08:55

Realise I’m being a total hypocrite given I’ve just warned off pearls for every day use (despite my everyday jewellery being pearl…) but have you considered looking at somewhere like Mikimoto? I’ve got my eye on this pendant but they have some gorgeous choices at around the same cost (quite like this and this too!).

Perhaps a day exploring in London/wherever you have a decent amount of jewellery shops is needed? I got myself a beautiful tanzanite ring for my last milestone birthday that way. Had booked appointments at various shops around Bond Street to look at things I’d seen online then walked past it in the window at another jewellers on the way and fell in love (even better it was in their sale section!).

Cherry Blossom Pendant

The famous Japanese cherry blossom is captured in this modern floral design. This pendant features a 6.5mm Akoya cultured pearl and 18k pink gold.

Ah sorry, my price point was for the vintage size! 🤦‍♀️

Claricestarling1 · 31/08/2023 11:07

I love it, it’s classic and timeless. I wouldn’t get something cheaper or different just because there are a lot of fakes around (we’d never buy anything otherwise!) plus you’ll know it’s real! Wear it and love it 😍

Verite1 · 31/08/2023 11:15

I do like it, but I don’t think I would buy something that is currently so ubiquitous. Otherwise it’s a bit like wearing an item of clothing or handbag that is covered in labels! I would prefer something a little more unusual.

40thbirthday · 31/08/2023 11:36

Some great alternatives here. I think the idea of a day in London looking is good. Are we saying bond street? I have never done hatton Garden so could be an option too.Need to decided a budget! I will want something wearable daily. I get the point of paying for a name, I suppose i really like the design and sentiment too.

i love them, but they're ubiquitous atm. also mother of pearl is pretty delicate and might not go the distance with daily wear
