Van Cleef Sweet Alhambra pendant worth it?

I like the idea of having a nice necklace i wear daily. I love gold and mother or pearl and know the quality is excellent. There are so many copies though. If i am doing it i want the real thing. Just want experience of those that have it or if people think its worth it?

No, no no.
We don't do this in Style and Beauty!

Exactly! Stop the meanness

BakingBeanz · 30/08/2023 21:29

I have the necklace with 10 motifs in tiger’s eye. I love it and it goes with everything.

gingersnappz · 30/08/2023 21:30

I love them. Only had a look at them this afternoon as I saw one on someone but they're way out of my budget!

crochetmonkey74 · 30/08/2023 21:33

I'd like the long pearl necklace from chanel with the logos in, much much faked and copied but I'd still love it!

TheFormidableMrsC · 30/08/2023 21:39

There's far too many copies of that around at the moment. Indeed I saw one in different colour options at a classic car event last weekend. I think I'd perhaps find something else. However, if you love it, then go for it 🤷🏻‍♀️

EvelynKatie · 30/08/2023 21:44

I love it. Agree with other posters though there’s so many copies around at the moment, tons of them on Instagram. I have one (a copy) and wear it a lot!

BubziOwl · 30/08/2023 22:02

That's fair enough OP, it wouldn't really bother me either if people thought it was fake in my fantasy world where I could afford it.

If you love it, I say go for it!

40thbirthday · 30/08/2023 22:03

Thanks all and some good alternative suggestions in particular the birks bee chic. Think i’m sold on getting it. It is a lot of money, the most expensive necklace i’ll own but i know i’ll wear it. I think regardless of fashion it’ll stay a classic in 10 years if everyone gets sick of it! I would usually look at a handbag but have a few and money on this felt a better investment.

I must say (i name changed) I haven’t posted a thread on S&B before but what a lovely place. Bar the one poster. I’m going to have a good read through but thanks for all the input

Could you just get the pendant and then a gold necklace somewhere else? It's so overpriced 🙁

stripeyjug · 30/08/2023 22:08

I used to quite like them but a bit ubiquitous now

TokyoSushi · 30/08/2023 22:11

I adore it, but there are so many around. I didn't actually know about 'the original' - I'd be disappointed that people might think it's something like this when I'd spent so much money.

I love that necklace but it is very expensive (says me, a poor person!)

How would you feel if you lost it? (I'm assuming you would get insurance on it?) I've been looking at some more expensive jewellery, although nowhere near that price mark, but was put off by the idea I may lose it. I bought myself a lovely Oliver Bonas necklace with birthday money from my parents, I absolutely loved it, but lost it after a few months and cried like a baby. I've decided to stick to Accesorize budget to make any future losses less upsetting.

I'm sure you could find something equally lovely for less money, although if it's the necklace you want then you probably won't be able to stop thinking about it, you'll buy something similar but not quite it and then you'll eventually succumb and buy it anyway. I did this with the Dyson Airwrap, although for me it's been worth it 😁

i’m open to looking around. I would name it on the insurance and have done with diamond rings and will do my new watch.

i do have some cheaper jewellery, monicar vinader which is nice but doesn’t feel as special. I think i will search around and perhaps visit the store, but if i do it’s unlikely i will come out empty handed.

what do people think to this? https://uk.vrai.com/jewelry/necklaces/orion-necklace?metal=yellow-gold&_ga=2.43084589.940897017.1693419493-1943579469.1693330533&_gac=1.157798728.1693430392.Cj0KCQjw0bunBhD9ARIsAAZl0E19-TBcb_v2ySMq1cTpp39SNb6NyS8PylCNP99fK8qgeDpzkkLXDkQaApQEEALw_wcB its cheaper and i would get the bracelet to match. Came up in a search and some nice pieces on their website.

It's pretty but both of my kids have just bought the dupes on Shein for £1 (no I don't approve of Shein). It'll become less
Desirable very quickly, the moment has gone.

Lykia · 30/08/2023 22:42

I noticed Amanda Holden wearing the bracelet on the Italian Job programme. It looked really elegant. I reckon it was her own and not part of the BBC wardrobe.

Fawbs89 · 30/08/2023 22:46

I like it but they are so popular at the moment and there are so many dupes around I'd just think youbwere wearing a fake. I wouldn't but it will go out of fashion soon and you will have wasted your money.

Luckingfovely · 30/08/2023 22:46

I love it - and have one of the longer necklaces in black.

I wouldn't buy this now though - as lovely as the real thing is, it's ubiquitous as a pp said, and there are so many fakes, that it just doesn't feel special any more to me.

I think there are many lovelier choices for the money. You really need a look in Selfridge's Wonder Room or similar.

But - final point, if this is really what you want and you'll love it anyway - buy it and enjoy!

twoontheway23 · 30/08/2023 22:51

I have this necklace in the sweet size and also the black onyx in the larger vintage size. All I will say OP is the sweet size is very tiny, super cute and good for layering but day to day I wear my vintage size black one as it works better on its own. Could you look at getting the vintage size MOP? I would definitely go in store and try both sizes on if you can x

MzHz · 30/08/2023 23:04

I like them, but they’re everywhere and will be so dated so quickly

you don’t have the funds to keep chasing celeb whims, buy something original and timeless

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 30/08/2023 23:11

I have one similar and also tried the one you want on. I got my necklace for a “big” birthday and love it because it’s expensive and something I wouldn’t have ordinarily spent that amount of money on.
So what if there are loads of cheap fakes out there? I love mine and it sparkles in a way that a ‘cheaper’ necklace wouldn’t.
I went to Van Cleefs and bought it there - we also got a small chocolate in a box thing along with a glass of champagne so it was a lovely shopping experience.
Do it!!

40thbirthday · 30/08/2023 23:15

I’m thinking its worth the trip to the store. If i was my main present i wouldn’t think twice so to the poster that said i don’t have funds on a celebrity whim thats amusing. I know i’ll spend this amount on other things anyway and yes its popular! Hence me seeing it but they are lovely. I like the sound of the sparkle. Also layering as i think given its smaller i can do that. Will check the other colours out too and shop around. They will hold good money so even if i get bored in 5 years i can sell it and it’s not cost loads. I do that with handbags and it works out well.

I love this. I have the guilloche to wear for everyday as I don't have to worry about taking it in and off xx

40thbirthday · 30/08/2023 21:15

Yeah the green is nice isn’t it. Agree people will suspect fake but i’m not too fussed on that really. Shops are in london unless online but Selfridges stock too so might nip to the manchester store and look.

Selfridges Manchester don't stock Cartier or VCA- only Oxford St do! I wouldn't recommend getting the malachite as it's very delicate! Looks beautiful but is very fragile and easily damaged by perfume, liquid etc.

Lab grown diamonds may as well be CZ.

If you have £1500 to spend you could get something incredible (and a lot better value) on vintage/auction websites.
