Deodorant allergy but very sweaty person

Icabod · 27/08/2023 07:13

I am really allergic to deodorant, I used to be OK with creams but now even they make me insanely itchy. I get very sweaty and need deodorant. Please send me your recommendations. I've tried the bicarb paste under the pits but it's a faff.

PitRok crystal deodorant is great. You rub it on to slightly damp armpits. It’s just a crystal - no scent or anything - but it completely stops any smell. It doesn’t stop the actual sweat, but after a week or two your body adjusts and stops producing so much sweat so unless it’s really hot it doesn’t matter.

MontezumasPuma · 27/08/2023 09:01

Was just coming to say PitRok.

PIXI toner under your arms.

DH uses Bionsen.

Michum deodorant powder stick (no scent)

Icabod · 27/08/2023 22:25

I will try Pitrok, I have tried the Mitcham powder stick and was super itchy and biosen did not work for me unfortunately and I stank.

Also this, I haven’t tried them yet as I only discovered them last week. They’re a small business local to us so I’m keen to support them.

I get Botox, it will change your life. Not cheap but I’ve spent sooo much money on products that promised the Earth but don’t help enough.

Rocket1982 · 29/08/2023 18:39

Bicarb mixed with coconut oil is good, is that how you made the paste? It only takes a few seconds to make a pot and it lasts months.

Icabod · 02/09/2023 11:56

Thanks I'll try all these, didn't mix coconut oil into my paste, I'll try that.

Have you already tried Clinique roll on? It’s hypoallergenic and I don’t react to it, when I do react to many other deoderants. I’ve never found a spray one I can use, something about the spray itself is irritating.

Iknowthis1 · 02/09/2023 21:24

Botox

gravitytester · 02/09/2023 21:44

How are you with antiperspirant? I use Perspirex which has no deodorant and it's literally changed my life (actually not exaggerating- I'm not washing my pits multiple times per day or only wearing dark to hide sweat marks anymore!).

Lavera have natural deodorants on amazon that are good. Also Green People - bit more expensive but effective.

Do you have any idea what ingredient/s are the problem?

stardust777 · 04/09/2023 21:20

This probably isn't derm recommended (and definitely patch test first), but the Ordinary lactic acid 5% has been a massive help for me.

CapEBarra · 04/09/2023 21:27

This works really well for me - the trick is to put it on soaking wet skin, not just damp skin.

Ponderingwindow · 04/09/2023 21:38

Do you have any idea which ingredient is causing the problem?

if it is fragrance, Mitchum unscented is not actually fragrance free.

i recommend trying a brand called Vanicream. You will have to order it. Other brands to look at are Cleure and VMV Hypoallergenics. All require online ordering and none are cheap, but they are very good about providing detailed listings of ingredients.

Icabod · 04/09/2023 23:13

Not tried Lavera, Clinque or Perspirex. I haven't used Mitchum in years as it one of the worst for making me itch.

DH and my dad want me to go to the GP as the glands in my right armpit have been swollen for over six months

Do you do this with deodorant or antiperspirant?
I only use normal antiperspirant and apply to dry skin. For some reason, they don't seem to work as well anymore.
I didn't get on with the types if antiperspirant you are meant to apply in the evening and it's supposed to last all of the next day.

Mine have been swollen in my left armpit for years now. Had a full MOT at doctors and nothing came up, Think its just how mine are.

I’m using this at the moment and really like it:
https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/we-love-the-planet-deo-stick-mighty-mint-60036963?skuid=036963&utm_campaign=shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=shopping&&gbraid=0AAAAAD96OoL9M8S9d5S57x-53GxcKAhoT&gclid=CjwKCAjw6eWnBhAKEiwADpnw9q9L0umptmNNI3NmcmCapxisHZIZ0qRvInUsqCj69dU2XThZgQwd2BoCTx8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
The smell is really fresh and quite strong. I think the key to using a natural deo is to give it a few weeks/months for your armpits to settle. I was always super sweaty/smelly but now I can use natural deo with no issues. I’ve just smelt my armpits today in this heat, no shower yet and just a bit of the deo and can just smell the mint, no BO.

Have you tried Wild? Natural deodorants, and they have 'sensitive' versions of their popular scents. You have to buy a case first, and then buy 'refills' - but you don't need to get it on subscription, you can buy the refills in most places now.
Sorry edited to add, they aren't antiperspirants, so you will still sweat, but the fragrances are really nice.
