I have new bag fatigue

The definition of a ridiculous problem!

I need a new day to day, non work bag. Totally casual but something I'll use constantly every weekend.

I have one I love which is a cross body, sort of saddle shape very soft leather one but it's been through 5 years of service, has gone from artfully battered to just dead now with straps coming apart, holes in lining etc. it's done immense service but it's time is nigh.

I want it tan. That will go with all my clothes/coats etc without too much thought. I would like it leather or suede. It has to be big enough to house my purse, phone, glasses and occasionally kindle but not big enough for dh or dds to use me as a pack animal.

I have looked at EVERY BAG. From primark to mulberry. Nothing is right. I would quite like a break from cross body but then all
I find is work bags. I am a very slouchy person so I don't want anything too structured.

Budget wise I'm fairly open. I usually wouldn't be looking at spending too much and I'm still not but I've just got a promotion and a pay rise and a birthday coming up so I could stretch to a couple of hundred for something I love and will use a lot.

If anyone fancies throwing some ideas my way, my entire family would be grateful to shut me up. Not Radley though. I hate Radley bags....

Have you tried Fossil handbags?

MarshaArt · 26/08/2023 18:51

They seem like normal things for women to carry, to me. I think most women have a good idea of what other women might choose to carry in their bags.

Anyway, I haven’t looked at Mulberry for a while and suddenly getting interested again!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 26/08/2023 18:52

After spending way too much money on designer (and non designer handbags over the years) i’m on a no spend. In fact I sold a few designer bags I had in the past recently which were presents/bought in sales/didn’t use them.

However my very generous boyfriend is taking me to Biarritz and Barcelona on a birthday city break (yes 2 cities!) this autumn and said I can have a new bag. Price apparently my choice. I’m thinking of Alfonso Dominguez or Balenciaga. If anyone wants to throw Spanish or French brands my way then I’d be interested.

I do like the Demellier though so far.

Someone on another bag thread on MN posted a green woven bag which I lusted after and then was a tease as they wouldn’t say where it was from.

I love love love my Rowdy bag that I got for my birthday in April. Gorgeous, the perfect size and handmade. As a bonus (for me), my laptop just fits so it’s also handy for work.

I have the Amber Tote (pictured).

Ahhhh @UsernameNotAvailableNow I knew what that would be before I clicked on the link! I have flirted with that one before a number of times but budget is too much really. Maybe I might go and stroke it in John Lewis a bit more and butter up dh, my in laws and my mum for birthday money;)

Lol re being a proper lady! I often barely manage to dress myself but I am a migraine sufferer with feet of a similar pathetic softness to a flower fairy. I've ruined more than on pair of trainers by bleeding all over the back of them.

I have a slouchy tan bag by Gianni Chiarini that might work. A couple of seasons ago but their style is generally similar. The colour I think was Zucca (pumpkin).

Another smaller brand I love is Ismad, based in Brixton market but they sell online.

iamthattree · 26/08/2023 20:05

Ohhhhhh I think we may have a winner!

@Cinnamonandcoal thank you so much, I LOVE this one!

I also like the fact it's a small British manufacturer and may give me enough left over to get that bright red bag I randomly seem to want....

Thank you so much everyone, I've had a lovely afternoon looking at all your suggestions and found some lovely things.

Thank you so much all. Really appreciate the links!

So far my favourites:

I like the osprey one at the very top but worried it's a bit structured.

The fat face one is very me and I like it but part of me is fancying a bit more of a treat, especially if I am going to use it to death.

I do like the fossil one but I had a fossil bag before for work and didn't love it for some reason.

I like the shape and feel of the Wanderers one and that is right up there but the Tan looks a bit plastic-y and bright in the photo so I'd need to see it. I liked the darker brown version as well. I will see if there is somewhere I can see it in the flesh.

I had seen the Honey and Toast ones before and had lingered a lot. They need a proper revisit.

Love the Mimi Berry but it's a bit expensive and I am a bit worried I will lose stuff in it.

Have looked at Coccinelle and I like the Pricilla a lot but it's over budget.

When I look at the ones I like best there is definitely a theme emerging of soft round shaped (I love the satchels but not on me).

Oh and I like the Matt and Nat brightly coloured bags and am tempted to treat myself to a red tote as I've been after a red bag for ages for some odd reason although I'd only use it occasionally so don't want to spend much on it. I have a very small
bright orange half moon bag which makes me very happy even though I only use it for nights out!

Also a pp asked what I'd carry - purse, phone, keys, glasses, tiny bit of make up (lipstick mostly) plasters, nurofen and occasionally a paper back or my kindle.

I have 5 Wanderers bags and they aren't plasticky at all, really soft leather in beautiful colours. I cam send a photo of my tan one if you're interested?

I have 4 honey and toast bags and the quality is superb!

D3poster · 26/08/2023 21:47

Hi

just wondering if you have looked at Jerome Dreyfus bags or Kinsale leather.

Have you tried The Cambridge Satchel Company? Their bags are exceptional quality and timeless. I’ve linked to a handbag, but if you go for a proper satchel (and can resist personalising) the resale value is high too. I love my (monogrammed -couldn’t resist!) satchel, and get so many compliments. It’s also delivered the next day!

I love my mini Cambridge satchel company satchel. It's a perfect size for my odds and ends and ostentatiously bright purple.

I also picked it up from a charity shop at a price that makes it even better!
