I have new bag fatigue

The definition of a ridiculous problem!

I need a new day to day, non work bag. Totally casual but something I'll use constantly every weekend.

I have one I love which is a cross body, sort of saddle shape very soft leather one but it's been through 5 years of service, has gone from artfully battered to just dead now with straps coming apart, holes in lining etc. it's done immense service but it's time is nigh.

I want it tan. That will go with all my clothes/coats etc without too much thought. I would like it leather or suede. It has to be big enough to house my purse, phone, glasses and occasionally kindle but not big enough for dh or dds to use me as a pack animal.

I have looked at EVERY BAG. From primark to mulberry. Nothing is right. I would quite like a break from cross body but then all
I find is work bags. I am a very slouchy person so I don't want anything too structured.

Budget wise I'm fairly open. I usually wouldn't be looking at spending too much and I'm still not but I've just got a promotion and a pay rise and a birthday coming up so I could stretch to a couple of hundred for something I love and will use a lot.

If anyone fancies throwing some ideas my way, my entire family would be grateful to shut me up. Not Radley though. I hate Radley bags....

So glad i have come across thos thread. Not sure my bank balance will be though!

Freshair1 · 26/08/2023 12:41

What are you all keeping in these bags? Genuinely curious!

KevinDeBrioche · 26/08/2023 12:45

Proenza PS1. I absolutely LOVE mine. Understated but luxe. I have taupe but was tempted by tan, it’s years old but looks good as new and I use it every week.

Spanielsarepainless · 26/08/2023 12:47

I love Coccinelle. Wonderful quality leather, smart linings, heavy duty metalwork.

yogasaurus · 26/08/2023 12:55

Another vote for Coccinelle. The quality is amazing for the price, they’re always complimented on too.

I have a few leather Longchamp bags but this is my current favourite. Love the fact it doesn’t have any flashy logos just beautifully made classic bags. Have this exact bag and it fits lots in, even has a special pocket for my iPhone. I would really like another one in tan….

Another vote for coccinelle and coach - that Cos one further up looks nice though

smokingcarriageonly · 26/08/2023 14:22

Any good? https://penelopechilvers.com/products/bell-stud-leather-bag-conker PC bags are nice, casual but with some structure. I like the suede bags too but maybe not worky enough.

Thank you so much all. Really appreciate the links!

So far my favourites:

I like the osprey one at the very top but worried it's a bit structured.

The fat face one is very me and I like it but part of me is fancying a bit more of a treat, especially if I am going to use it to death.

I do like the fossil one but I had a fossil bag before for work and didn't love it for some reason.

I like the shape and feel of the Wanderers one and that is right up there but the Tan looks a bit plastic-y and bright in the photo so I'd need to see it. I liked the darker brown version as well. I will see if there is somewhere I can see it in the flesh.

I had seen the Honey and Toast ones before and had lingered a lot. They need a proper revisit.

Love the Mimi Berry but it's a bit expensive and I am a bit worried I will lose stuff in it.

Have looked at Coccinelle and I like the Pricilla a lot but it's over budget.

When I look at the ones I like best there is definitely a theme emerging of soft round shaped (I love the satchels but not on me).

Oh and I like the Matt and Nat brightly coloured bags and am tempted to treat myself to a red tote as I've been after a red bag for ages for some odd reason although I'd only use it occasionally so don't want to spend much on it. I have a very small
bright orange half moon bag which makes me very happy even though I only use it for nights out!

Also a pp asked what I'd carry - purse, phone, keys, glasses, tiny bit of make up (lipstick mostly) plasters, nurofen and occasionally a paper back or my kindle.

Have you looked at Fairfax and Favor? They have quite a few different styles in tan ( leather and suede).

Brieandbeetroot · 26/08/2023 15:06

I like Pure Luxuries London for bags. Have had mine for a couple of years, use it most days, take into work etc and it still looks brand new. Lots of shapes/colours styles, ranging from £40-200 ish.

Have a look at Pompom bags, come in different sizes, cross body, not too spendy!

I have two, I love them.

darkestnights · 26/08/2023 15:15

I'm currently lusting over this in black - www.sezane.com/en/product/claude-bag/smooth-sand#size-TU

I love Coach and Coccinelle too. Coach has a sale online. I bought a Coccinelle bag in an outlet centre in Paris or Madrid (don't remember which!) a few years ago. www.brandalley.co.uk has both brands sometimes, or you could try somewhere like www.zalandolounge.co.uk.

Michael Kors is on Brandalley today but I've kinda gone off them a bit because they're so ubiquitous (and so many fakes!)

These have some beautiful bags that might suit Grin

MissKittyFantastico84 · 26/08/2023 15:52

Hiya!

You won't have heard of the brand but Opelle might be worth a look.

Beautifully made, high quality slouchy leather bags that are like the Tardis. Bit pricy but not insane.

i have one of their ballet bags from ten years ago and a black backpack that I've worn to death.

@lovehatesummer that’s gorgeous 😻

purplesky18 · 26/08/2023 16:04

I can’t recommend a specific bag but I can recommend fiorelli as a brand I think it was mentioned up thread. Every bag I’ve had from there is gorgeous leather or faux leather and really really excellent quality for the price point.

iamthattree · 26/08/2023 16:12

Ohhh @lovehatesummer I do like that.....

@Monstermunchy @iamthattree I do love it a lot! But I've just read the online reviews and maybe it's worth checking it out instore if you can 😄

The website photos make the straps look longer than it probably is. It sits slightly higher on me than the model IMO.

Crikey. You're a proper woman! I would never think to carry painkillers or plasters!
