I'm wearing foot peel booties right now - experiences?

As I type this, my feet are wrapped up in little plastic booties filled with fruit acid foot peel juice (and, I won't lie, probably a fair amount of sweat).

I'm an hour into a 90-minute wait, I'm listening to Desert Island Discs (the Emma Thompson one), my feet are getting progressively warmer, and I'm wondering if I've made the best decision of my life or a MASSIVE error.

Has anyone else done one of these? What happened? How long did your feet take to start peeling?

For context: I am frighteningly ticklish in the foot region and flop about like a furious trout in a pedicure chair, shrieking uncontrollably – so I'm hoping this is a clever way to get nice soft tootsies while avoiding getting arrested for causing a public disturbance...

Ive only ever done this once, the following 2 days i did 12 your shifts at work and my feet must have sweat loads,
Well the peeling started on day 3 and oh my god it was epic! My feet were like babies skin after that

natura · 22/08/2023 21:51

Eek! @ew1990 did it come off in big pieces or just like dry skin?

scoobysnaxx · 22/08/2023 21:53

I did one years ago and I won't lie it was awful.

Foot was peeling for about 2 weeks in bit and pieces.

Was really annoying! Never again.

HateTheView · 22/08/2023 21:55

I bought something similar but have never used them. Think they're called footbed. I bought them about 2 or 3 years ago at the beginning of summer. Which is the worst time to use them so I never have. I should probably set a reminder on my phone to use them in December or something z 🤣

nationallampoons · 22/08/2023 21:57

Prepare for the itching!

Spottydressinggowngirl · 22/08/2023 22:04

I did it earlier this year. Feet were lovely after and the peeling was epic.

however, my feet have been so dry and sore this summer. I always wear flip flops and have never had this problem before. I think the footner has actually done my skin more harm than good 😞

Parker231 · 22/08/2023 22:06

I use Footner - the peeling is gross but it gives baby soft feet. Ideally do it a few weeks before holiday.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/08/2023 22:08

I did this a few weeks ago. I'd gone for a pedicure and the lady said I had quite dry skin 🙈. Well it took a good few days for it to work but it was amazing after. Just don't be tempted to peel too early! I did and it was sore.

Overdemanding · 22/08/2023 22:08

I hope you're not planning to wear sandals for the next 2 weeks!

It does what it says, but it was a full two weeks before lumps of skin stopped falling of mine. I was surprised how much "good" skin came off and tbh for the worst cracked/calloused bits it didn't go deep enough, only took the very top off and what was underneath is still quite rough.

UndercoverCop · 22/08/2023 22:08

I only do it during sock weather, spring time or after a hard summer of sandal wearing. The peeling is disgusting and DH says it's like a snake. Couldn't do it and then go on wearing sandals, mine took over a week to fully shed

DyslexicPoster · 22/08/2023 22:13

Dh does it because his feet are rank and stink like the worse cheese you can imagine. He doesn't get lots of peeling but it stops the smell for months.

The more I think about it, the last redeeming features he has

fivelilducks · 22/08/2023 22:15

The peeling is so satisfying but make sure you won't have to go anywhere in sandals or heels for a while

natura · 22/08/2023 22:20

Oh my goodness - I don't know if I'm excited or horrified!

I head off sailing at the start of September, so with a bit of luck the worst will be over by then.

Apparently it's good to soak your feet in warm water every day to help it along – any opinions on that?

Will probably do it anyway just because it sounds like a nice thing to do

needanotherhol · 22/08/2023 22:28

Yes definitely soak them as much as you can, it will fasten up the peeling process during the next few weeks.

It will be worth it, your feet will do much smoother in a few weeks time!

NegativNancy · 22/08/2023 22:38

I've just done a footner so can share experience! Stupidly, I timed it so it would start peeling when I was on holiday, which meant that after a long day walking around the city, I took off my trainers to find my entire foot had shedded in my trainer socks. It was fairly gross in our lovely hotel room. DP was not impressed... Where it shedded, the skin was lovely and soft, but I will say it did not shed on the hardest parts of skin, which is disappointing.

Doggydarling · 22/08/2023 22:49

I use a hard skin remover (looks a bit like a cheese grater) a few times on the really tough skin about a week before the treatment, careful to not overdo it though. The treatment seems to work pretty evenly then, took about 10 days to complete peeling but left my feet looking and feeling great. Only problem is after having bunions removed from both feet my big toe nails have never been the same, both have an indent line across them and look weird even when painted and my second toe is now the longest so that looks odd too, I'll never make money catering to foot fetishism but at least I can find shoes to fit now.

Moonrising · 22/08/2023 22:54

Nothing much happens for a few days and you'll think it isn't working. Then around day 5 they start peeling like crazy! It doesn't hurt though. Mine usually peel the most when I get out of the shower and I'm drying my feet and I think oh my god my skins coming off 😂

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 23/08/2023 08:43

My only advice is to wear socks when it starts peeling because you don't want the flakey skin all over your carpet!

natura · 23/08/2023 08:56

Got my feet in a big bowl of warm water this morning!

I noticed the skin felt a little tight when I woke up today, and almost a bit 'thin' across the soles...

@nationallampoons eek! Will it really itch?! That sounds hellish...

Ahhhhhbisto · 23/08/2023 10:12

Ooooo I have done these. Peeling was epic and feet were wonderfully smooth. Didn't last too long though tbh....

Ahhhhhbisto · 23/08/2023 10:17

Pic below.......it is disgusting!.....

Mercurial123 · 23/08/2023 10:20

It didn't work for me. It didn't remove all the dry skin. Flexitol is way better for my feet and guarantees good results.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 23/08/2023 10:21

The peel will depend on how bad they were to begin with. I have recently done them but my feet were already in reasonable nick so the peel has been quite disappointing and bitty.

Be warned that the new skin after the peel is VERY sun-sensitive and you WILL burn if you aren't very careful, especially if you are sailing. This might be what @Spottydressinggowngirl. Remember too that you need some callus on your soles to protect your feet and you can't control how much the peel removes, so you might have a few weeks of burning sensation in the soles of your feet as your skin thickens up again.

You have to ensure that you do it at least two weeks before a holiday, especially a beach holiday, as the water stimulates the peeling.

It''s very embarrassing to come out of the water, plop yourself on your sunbed and realise that your feet look like a pair of frilled lizards
