Is there any hope for these toenails in 3 weeks? (Gross photo)

Think I know what the answer will be 😩. I’m going to be a bridesmaid in 3 weeks and I’m having such trouble with shoes (I have narrow feet and bandy ankles so struggle anyway). I’m just looking for white toe-covered kitten heels (don’t seem to exist) or flats because I get a lot of questions and embarrassment about my toes. I got a toe blister just from walking down my hallway in new shoes! So now I’m feeling like open toe will give more options and be less painful for 12 hours. But just look at them!

The second toes are too long and they’re bent from wearing cheap shoes as a teenager so need surgery to correct. I lost my big toenails as a teenager and they’ve never properly grown back. I’ve been using anti fungals for 12 months with no improvement. They are so thick so even when I paint them they look terrible (not to mention they’re only half as short as they should be!)

Do press on nails work on toes? Would they stay on my horrible thick toenails? Will they take the nail off if someone steps on my toe?? I assume no pedicure place would take me because of the fungus.

On the one hand I think people will be too busy looking at the bride to look at my feet. On the other hand they really do look strange and I don’t want them to draw attention, especially in the actual wedding photos.

So has anyone seen any nice white closed-toe shoes with a small 1 inch heel? Or can offer any advice on making them look more normal?

No. But start investing long term by seeking the help of a podiatrist!

Oldraver · 20/08/2023 10:35

Start by walking some tea tree on the nails, it will take a while, probably months

The only thing you can do is cover them if they bother you that much ( mine are similar). Google whit closed toe sandals and see what comes up

Get some nail glue and stick on nails. I think it should work. There's also build up gei they use in nail bars but is also available to purchase. You could put a layer of that on top and then paint over. Maybe file surface of nail first to make things easier to stick.

MagnificentMagnolia · 20/08/2023 10:37

Build up gel

Cheeesus · 20/08/2023 10:39

I think there are lots of closed toe options that would be easier. I don’t know how well stick on nails would work.

or ballet flats etc etc.

Cheeesus · 20/08/2023 10:42

Or ballet flats with a strap? Eg

Stock up on different sizes of Compeed blister plasters in case the closed toe shoes you find rub.

AnchorWHAT · 20/08/2023 10:45

Stick on toe nails are really good, so for a one off event i would go with these.

Yetisrus29 · 20/08/2023 10:51

See a podiatrist as something isn't right, you shouldn't be using fungal treatment for so long. Also you can go to a nail salon and have extensions put on.

Yes it doesn’t seem right. It hasn’t helped at all and the nails have stopped growing

Do you know any good brands? I’ve heard people say good things about Primark ones but don’t know if they do toes, imagine walking down the aisle and leaving a toenail behind 😩

RosesAndHellebores · 20/08/2023 10:59

Chiropodist/ppdiatrist for further advice.
I imagine it will be hard to buy white shoes at present.
Can you wear flesh coloured tights so nobody will be able to see clearly.

Whattodowithit88 · 20/08/2023 11:00

Tackle this long term too, you need fungal treatment

AnchorWHAT · 20/08/2023 11:00

I have used Primark ones but superdrug and boots also have more expensive versions. Be generous with the glue and they should stay on, take spares and glue just in case. I find they stick well if you make sure that you get the best size from the box for each toe. I have also been known to use superglue 😳which ensured they stuck for a week! Once odd the glue will look a bit rough on your nails but rub vaseline in every night and it will gradually disappear. Good luck. Maybe try them out before the event to see how they look, feel and last for you.

Cheeesus · 20/08/2023 11:04

What size feet are you? There are more lower heeled options in children’s. They may come up a little small I’ve found though, but next go up to a 7. Eg

You need to see a podiatrist.

I wouldn't try to stick on false nails or use extensions. I would continue looking for closed toe shoes. Lots of bridal shoes are white, closed toe and low heel so you should be able to find something.

I have stuck to under £50 and avoided shein/temu type sites and can see plenty.

You can dye them after the event to get more use from them.

OffOnMyHols · 20/08/2023 11:30

@Pimpmyfeet Google low heel closed wedding shoes, there are lots available. I think bad toenails are more common than people think. Most of them are perfect for long slim feet too as they tend to have a pointed toe.

You need to see your GP and get terbinafine tablets but they only work if your nails are going to grow and it’s a slow process. Maybe getting the nails removed is a better option.

Pandorapitstop · 20/08/2023 11:35

Try a Margaret Dabbs medical pedicure

JorisBonson · 20/08/2023 11:37

Closed toe shoes and a visit to a podiatrist or your GP. Don't go to a nail salon, any reputable one won't put acrylics on badly fungal nails.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 20/08/2023 11:38

Funguses are hard to treat and need a minimum 12 months because that’s how long your big toenail takes to grow root to tip 🙄

Tea tree only works in vitro, I know because I’ve grown t.rubram in a lab and used tea tree to kill it but in vivo the presence of keratin protects the t.rubram.

Xrays · 20/08/2023 11:40

Have you had any blood tests done? I’m asking because some autoimmune issues like diabetes and Addisons etc can cause issues with feet and fungal infections.

Pimpmyfeet · 20/08/2023 11:46

Thank you for the shoe recommendations! These are really helpful

I haven’t seen my GP about the toenails and haven’t had any specific blood tests done. Appointments are like gold dust here and it just never seemed like an urgent problem. But I will go because it’s affecting my shoe choices and I’ve tried a couple of otc treatments now

This is interesting! What if your nail has stopped growing altogether 🙈

My dad swore by Vicks Vaporub (which I think has tea tree, or maybe menthol) and would put it on his toenail every night but I was always a bit sceptical

I had fungal toe for almost three years during pregnancy and breast feeding, was told not to use anything on it, not sure now it was a good advice. Then it was nasty, months of no results with prescription laquer. Got put on the oral tablets and it was gone in 6 months. Push for this at GP if you have not already.
