Best bra - rotator cuff injury

bge · 09/08/2023 23:37

Hello!

I always, always wear slightly padded over-the-head crop tops as bras. Now I have injured my rotator cuff and putting them on hurts so much. I also can’t do a normal bra up behind my back. I could do one up in the front and twizzle it round - but thought I would also ask for suggestions. Can anyone recommend a comfy, ideally non-wired, slightly padded, front fastening bra?

thank you!

Sadly, no. I went with the turning round option, which still hurt like a fucker when I had to twist it round. You just get used to it and it sort of hurts less after a while, or rather it hurts equally as much but you just get on with it.

bge · 09/08/2023 23:43

Lol. It’s been gradually getting worse for 18 months so I am very familiar! I don’t know how it happened, I don’t even do any sport <grump>

Nor me. Rather embarrassingly, the consultant thought I'd done it through, wait for it... leaning. It flared up during lockdown and when he quizzed me and manipulated my arm into different positions, it became apparent that I spent a long time leaning on my right forearm at a laptop once work became virtual and in turn this buggered up my shoulder. I then had to make an effort to shift position which has wrecked my back but that's another moan entirely. Had exercises which did nothing and a steroid injection which pretty much sorted it out within a couple of weeks (as long as I don't lean...). Hope yours is slightly more athletically implicated and is sorted out soon.

Ha ha ha ha ha 😁

sorry. But that actually made me lol.

Have you tried putting on your crop top style bra by stepping in and out of it rather than over your head?

Weddingbellsring · 10/08/2023 00:04

You can get front fastening bras they do up at the front with a clip. https://www.bravissimo.com/products/dana-bra-lg242/#lilaclemon-lg242lln
Loads of other brands do them

All the ones I have seen so far - like that one - are wired, but I haven’t looked for ages so will carry on.

stepping into my crop top!! Omg. This is like when I learned you can take baby vests off over their feet. I will try this tomorrow!

I was also going to suggest stepping into a crop top. I quite often wear Uniqlo camisoles with a built in bra and that’s how I put them on as I have limited mobility in my shoulders.

Nat6999 · 10/08/2023 01:15

Can you step in your crop tops? I have one from the Big Bloomers Company & I can step in it, I had an impingement in my shoulder & it was the only way I could get it on. I have Fibromyalgia & can't cope with normal bras as they cause me so much pain.

OhcantthInkofaname · 10/08/2023 01:26

I moved to front fastening bras because of osteoarthritis in my shoulder. I wear a DD cup and don't need padding. In the US I go to Fruit of the Loom or JMS (Just My Size) for front fastening. One thing to note is that front fastening bras offer a lot of support because of design. It lessens the strain on the shoulder.

Fraaahnces · 10/08/2023 01:27

I have a terrible rotator cuff tear from a car accident. When I had surgery I used zip-front sports bras. You put them over your sore arm first, then hook the good one behind you to fish around for the other armhole. Then lean forwards, zip up and wiggle the girls in place.

bge · 10/08/2023 07:26

Thank you all, will look out for front fastening sports bras. But today I am going to try stepping into my bra!

I was going to suggest stepping in!

I wear bralets (but mine aren't padded) and often do it this way (in reverse) for no other reason other than sheer laziness when I go to bed 🫣🤣

OneAndDon3 · 10/08/2023 09:23

I'm fully invested in this now. How did the stepping in go? Is your life changed?

botemp · 10/08/2023 09:30

If you look for 'adaptive' or 'post surgery' bras you'll probably get closer to what you're looking for, they'll either have front closing clasps or zips. Here's a Calvin Klein adaptive one (only a few sizes left, unfortunately).

Ohmylovejune · 10/08/2023 09:33

Do.it up at the front and move it around.

I've had two. First is mended and second I'm.at 6 months. I don't know how I did it but apparently could have been a dog pulling on lead. It's my surpraspinatis tendon.

Very very ouchy!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 10/08/2023 10:40

This is the bra that I wear going to the gym. It's front fastening and the shoulder straps are adjustable while you wear it using velcro. So I usually make the shoulder straps as long as possible to put the bra on and then adjust them once I've done it up. It doesn't give a very good shape for daily wear though as it's a bit compressive. (I don't buy it from Amazon but it's not showing on my usual shop.) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anita-Womens-5523-Sports-White/dp/B000LK5KQS/ref=asc_df_B000LK5KQS/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=226516174945&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3197843736987055709&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007850&hvtargid=pla-339474927977&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

Oooh… I forgot. Also Uniqlo wireless bras were good. Some of them were step-in ones with no clippy doodad to worry about. I just had a look and they’re called the “Wireless Bra Ultra Relax”. Tbh, tempted to get one again. I hate anything that digs in and I’be been married far too long to to think my DH cares about bras.

Fraaahnces · 10/08/2023 11:32

*Ultra Relax is a prettier version as well. They have two, and they’re not too expensive.

SayingwhatIreallythink · 10/08/2023 11:33

I saw some in Decathlon the other day. Not where you’d normally think to look. Not sure if they were padded but they were front-fastening crop tops

EffortlessDesmond · 10/08/2023 16:33

If you know a really good sports physio who does trigger point massage, it can really help with rotator cuff problems. My Aussie friend is a genius at fixing deep tissue problems: very sad she's on the other side of the world!

RichTeee · 11/08/2023 01:56

I have recurring frozen shoulder (why im up ay 2am in pain ugh) and pretty much have given up on bras. I'm pretty small chested, not flat...about a 32c in old ways or a 28e I think in BoB.
Anyway I usually wear the little smoothing vests from M&S and no bra. They are the ones that come in white, black and beige "nude". With a scoop neck on one side and a v neckline on the other.
Nice and stretchy to step into and no weight on your shoulder
May not work if you have very big boobs....this keeps mine contained enough it's not obvious I'm bra less

bge · 12/08/2023 13:40

I stepped into my crop top and it was LOADS better, but hoicking it into place was still painful.

when I say padded I only mean a tiny bit to stop nipples showing. Not fully. I have bought this but not arrived yet - will let you know

I thought I had this too but turns out it’s a frozen shoulder, causes the same problems though - I can’t wear a normal bra and as a FF/G that makes life tricky! I like the M&S Flexifit crop tops which are really comfy and fairly easy to put on but they don’t give me the greatest support/shape. I can’t see me ever going back to a wired one though, even if my shoulder gets better.
