What do you think of this bridal set. I'm wondering if the pink is a bit childish.

These would be for me, already long time married but looking to upgrade our rings possibly.

I don't like pink but think it's very pretty x

DNLove · 04/08/2023 10:08

I'd consider where I'm getting my rings more than design first. You can design your own ring with proper diamond authentication from a jeweller in antwerp for same price. Do you really need a new wedding band or could you just get the engagement ring updated?
I sent an image of ring I liked to antwerp jewellers and we designed exact ring along with being able to pick the exact stone using the Gem Certificates and price and they sent it to me. When I got it valued it was worth twice what I paid.

JuneOsborne · 04/08/2023 10:12

Morganite goes dull (very dull) very quickly. You'll be forever cleaning it to keep it sparkly. And I don't mean a bit dull. Disappointingly dull after just a couple of wears.

So I'd caution against the stone. Sorry op!

whatchagonnado · 04/08/2023 10:13

I deliberately chose an engagement ring that didn't sit high so I could wear it every hour of every day. I think it looks lovely but from a practical point of view, would it catch on things? Would you be ok just wearing the wedding ring if it did?
Some people are not that bothered about wearing their engagement ring all the time, so if that's the case, no problem

Purpleavocado · 04/08/2023 10:14

It's very pretty! Not sure how durable it will be

EvenlyDetermined · 04/08/2023 10:25

I think it’s pretty but agree with others that they will snag on everything and the wedding ring will look odd without the engagement ring. I wear my engagement ring all the time and deliberately chose a flat rubover setting for this reason.

ActDottie · 04/08/2023 10:54

Personally I wouldn’t choose pink but I don’t look at it and think it’s ugly or anything. If you like it go for it.

mistermagpie · 04/08/2023 10:55

It's a matter of taste, I would t choose it but it's pretty and not childish at all.

If that's your budget though, I think you can do better - high street jewellers don't tend to be the best quality and you can get more 'bang for your buck' so to speak at somewhere like Hatton garden etc. You don't have to visit there, there are loads of online stores, so definitely shop aroundZ

Hadjab · 04/08/2023 11:11

The question is "do you like it?"

if so, then go for it. However, I would shop around a bit and see if you can't find something in platinum as it really isn't much more than white gold now.

for example there is £290 difference between this ring in white gold and platinum

luckylavender · 04/08/2023 11:32

Very pretty

nameXname · 04/08/2023 11:42

Personally, I don't like the design but we all have different tastes so if you think the ring is pretty that's all that matters. But I agree very much with the previous posters who have said:

  • antique or vintage jewellery would be much, much better value and probably better made than modern high street items. New high-street jewellery loses most of its value the moment you walk out of the shop.
  • a 'high-standing' design with prongs will catch on everything, snag tights/knitwear, get knocked easily, be uncomfortable if it swivels round on your finger etc etc. A lower or rub-over design would be more comfortable and less likely to get damaged.
  • wishbone rings can also be uncomfortable - it very much depends on the shape of your finger. They can also look a bit odd if worn alone.
  • morganite can be high maintenance if worn every day
  • white gold usually needs regular re-plating
  • the diamonds are low quality
  • morganite is a brownish/peachy pink, so I agree with other posters that it tones in very nicely with rose or yellow gold, and is not shown to best advantage by white gold.
  • an independent jeweller could make you something unique and personal and probably better quality than mass-produced high street items.
HOWEVER, if you like the ring, then the choice must be entirely up to you.
Anonmousse · 04/08/2023 12:08

I think its a pretty design (although not my style) but sorry I'd say it would be better value to go to an independent jeweller than H Samuel's
It seems expensive for 9ct and that carat weight of diamonds.

Quietdaytoday · 04/08/2023 12:18

A bit to think about. Thanks for replies.

I probably should have said, with discounts etc these rings would actually cost £858 rather than £1200. Not sure if that changes opinions at all?

I know nothing about jewellery. Currently we both have completely plain wedding bands. I don't wear jewellery in the house at all as soon as I'm home all jewellery comes off. But I'm pretty sure I'd lie something a bit bolder and a bit more blingy. I only tend to wear silver or white gold.

I love the bling x

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 04/08/2023 13:13

I think the ring is very very pretty, although I am a big fan of stones such as morganite. My favourite ring that I own is labradorite with tiny diamonds. The labradorite changes colour and intensity a little depending on the light. It makes me so happy to wiggle it around in the light and gaze at it. There is nothing childish at all about the ring. If I spotted it on your finger I would certainly notice it. For the right reasons!!

nameXname · 04/08/2023 13:19

Forgive me, OP, if I'me getting over-involved, but there are other pretty pink stones that you might also want to look at. I'm not suggesting that they might be to your taste, but it shows the sort of things that are available. As previous posters have said, a day out to Hatton Garden in London or to the jewellery quarter in Birmingham might be very helpful.

Here, just as an example, are a couple of pink sapphire rings, set in platinum:

https://jewellerydiscovery.co.uk/product/pink-sapphire-and-diamond-cluster-dress-ring/

There are also pink spinels:

This is - to my mind - not very practical, but it's certainly remarkable!

and this is yellow gold, but so romantic:

Compared with your first suggestion of the morganite ring, I prefer the angara-brand ring you sent a link to. It would be more practical and comfortanble to wear every day, I think.

OP - the one you shared, to me, is quite cheap looking. I don't think pink is childish, I just don't think that set is very elegant/stylish/timeless.

The rings @nameXname has put in here are all absolutely stunning and look the price, if that makes sense.

WhatWillAPearDoAtNight · 04/08/2023 14:00

It's pretty but it's extremely over priced. I would look for similar online from a lesser known jeweller or have something made for you.

Elspeth7 · 04/08/2023 15:00

Not childish and very pretty.

swimminginthesun · 04/08/2023 15:29

I like the morganite but overall the set looks too fussy for my taste. I think the bling is overdone and it looks cheap. The ring @Hadjab linked to is beautiful. I much prefer that one and would pair it with a plainer wedding band.

I do like this one better but if that's the one you are looking at, it's a poor quality Morganite and rather small. They offer bigger and better stones at a very high price!

Do consider platinum, it's a much better choice than white gold and will tie in OK with your other silver toned jewellery. It's much harder wearing and won't need replating. The slight colour difference isn't that noticeable.

The mark-up on jewellery is enormous from these big suppliers and you'll get much better value from independent makers. Take a trip to Hatton Garden or the Birmingham Jewellery quarter and you'll be amazed at how much more you can get for your budget. They'll even make you something special.

Aurea · 04/08/2023 15:56

I have a white gold ring and it turns yellow with wear over time and it needs replating every couple of years. If you like the silver colour, it may be worth upgrading to platinum as it would save you money in the long run.

Enjoy!

Viviennemary · 04/08/2023 15:56

I do like it a lot. However, it is a little bit gaudy and you may get tired of it more than you would a more traditional style.

crapactually · 04/08/2023 16:06

The style isn't to my taste but I really like Morganite. I think it looks nicer with yellow or rose gold.

Whitew0lf · 04/08/2023 16:16

I really like it but I would prefer rose gold or gold. I don't like it in the silver
