Do you vary your moisturiser?

A friend recently said you need to shock your face by varying your moisturiser. I have always used Kiehls ultra but I'm wondering whether I'm missing a trick?

No, I don’t. I stick to what my skin likes.

Astronaut1298 · 29/07/2023 07:09

No I just use what I always have otherwise I break out

countdowntonap · 29/07/2023 07:10

I do - but only because I have so many products from beauty advent calendars and boxes to use! However, my one daily constant is the Aldi Q10 serum!

Figroll16 · 29/07/2023 07:11

I've got 3 of varying levels of richness -some days (especially when it's warm) I only need a light one and others (like after I've used tret) my skin needs something more moisturising.

Pinkitydrinkity · 29/07/2023 07:13

Maybe once a week I use a thicker one at night time, usually after I’ve used retinol. But my daytime one is always the same!

stevalnamechanger · 29/07/2023 07:34

That's total nonsense

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/07/2023 08:10

Your friend is talking absolute rubbish. 😂

I use Dr Sebagh's Luminous Glow.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 29/07/2023 12:23

Your friend is talking rubbish!
I use the same products as I know they won't upset my reactive skin

TheOGCCL · 29/07/2023 14:57

I think most dermatologists would say consistency is key and not to chop and change if you find one that suits

Changingplace · 29/07/2023 14:59

I use different products all the time, but only because I like trying new products and I’m lucky in that I don’t have sensitive skin and nothing seems to make me break out.

But really they are all very similar ;)

I'm the same! I've bought a couple of the ones I really liked in full size, but then I always just go back to Superdrug Vitamin E cream and rosehip oil from wherever 😊

happywotsit · 29/07/2023 17:16

I buy whats on offer in Boots when i need it so yes, often different brands.

NoTeaNoShade · 29/07/2023 17:18

My dermatologist has told me to use Bioderma as I have extremely sensitive skin prone to Perioral dermatitis. I don't veer off course!

merryhouse · 29/07/2023 17:51

I alternate between the supermarket basic and Body Shop Vitamin C (depending on whether anyone bought it for birthday/Christmas). Before that there was an Yves Rocher period, and before that some other mail-order thing, and in my teens and early twenties it was the stuff from Boots or anything that caught my eye in the Body Shop.

...I don't think I'm really on your friend's wavelength

AndrexPuppy · 29/07/2023 17:52

Your face does not need ‘shocking’. If your moisturiser is working for you, stick with it.

olivehaters · 29/07/2023 18:04

I like to vary because I get bored but also you might benefit from other ingredients so if you chop and change at least you will get access to other ingredients semi regularly. One moisturiser doesn't have everything. So I might use a peptide one for a while then one with vitamin c in the summer, A hylaronic acid one etc etc.

mamakoukla · 29/07/2023 18:28

I very it by season so more rich/thicker in winter plus oil on top

dontgobaconmyheart · 29/07/2023 21:11

I'm prone to blemishes and have sensitive dry skin so I don't change often or for the sake of it - if I want to try something I've been recommended sure (rarely works out well) and then will go back to the same thing that I know does the job.

My skin is always clearer and brighter when I stick to the same routine than it is if I'm chopping and changing ( I do like to use things up so often try to squeeze them in and get it over with).

LondonQueen · 29/07/2023 21:13

The only time I change my moisturiser is if I can't get my usual for any reason. You certainly don't need to shock your skin with a different one. In fact, using the same one consistently is likely to have greater benefits if it contains any actives.

lucylucylu · 29/07/2023 21:37

I switch between two or three tried and trusted day moisturisers. I some are lighter, or I might use a different serum. It depends on how my skin is.

I usually use the same at night because I use an active (prescribed) and the top layer doesn't seem to matter much.

I do something similar with hair products, i.e. alternate.

Oceanus · 29/07/2023 22:59

I've read about a "shock" being needed for shampoo but never for face cream. Tbh I vary creams because I'm not happy with something or I'm bored, I use different ones because I already have them available at home not to shock my face. If something's great I stick with it, otherwise I'm not particularly loyal to anything.

Loopylooni · 30/07/2023 06:13

My skin is pretty good anyway but I just look a bit tired. I wondered whether I needed something brightening. I just wouldn't know where to start. Why is the Aldi q10 so good?

Riverlee · 30/07/2023 07:07

I do, but only because I but oh what’s in offer, and I get bored of the same 9ne.

However, there’s a saying, if it’s not broke, then don’t fix it.
