I would buy a Double J Long and Sassy dress but can't quite justify almost £1000. They are so beautiful.

I saw someone wearing that dress last night at The Marriage of Figaro at The Royal Opera House. It is indeed lovely.

As an aside last night"s audience there gave lie to the oft proclaimed on here "nobody in London/ only out of towners dress up in London"

Maybe Covent Garden was stuffed with out of towners but , even if it were, people dressed up definitely were in the majority.

Grin You were in the stalls, weren’t you? Or a box?

Fleetress · 15/07/2023 09:20

But dang … I thought I had my festival attire all sorted out, but that Chopova Lowena will make me feel underdressed if I encounter anyone in it.

Wonder if I can find it to hire …

I’d probably buy a Givenchy couture dress or a Katherine Hamnett Bardot little black dress similar to one I had when I was 18/19 but I’d need the figure to go with it!

Kyndra Jade Marisa gown, because I’m dramatic.

@NatashaDancing, sounds a wonderful evening. What did you wear, out of curiosity?

FannyJoan · 15/07/2023 11:43

Lots from Vampire's Wife

Something like this. I love historical fashion, and the 18th century had some gorgeous dresses. Not a fan of periods were skirts were so long they dragged on the ground, (19th century, I'm looking at you) but they seemed a bit more sensible.

I wore a "Winnie" dress from Egg. It wasn't the one in the picture or the plain white one on the website but I can't find it on their website. It's candy stripe in orange, pale blue, pale green, yellow, pink and white. The dress in the second link is the material.
I had intended wearing an Eponine dress but it's heavy cotton and lined and London is sweltering. The Egg dress was in their sale. It's not a brand I even knew of until recently thanks to a poster on S&B so I was checking them out.

Egg Candy Stripe dress

Marriage of Figaro was excellent.

I was in the stalls but not the top price !

Fleetress · 15/07/2023 17:21

I think I remember you discovering Egg!

At ROH, if I’m paying, I’m generally about half a mile from the stage - and up there no one’s dressed up. Grin

I'm wearing the Egg dress today as well and am in the train at Kings Cross. The drinks trolley person has just asked me (very politely) to move it out of the way.

Was that the Mrs Danvers conversation?

The chotronette dress I'm desperately in love with that a few folks here liked is on ebay, size 10.

I have absolutely no need for it with no future wedding plans etc but it's a 1500 quid dress starting at 200, if this is anyones cuppa and you've the money then I wish you all the luck in the world to get it!

This is such a fun thread! Definitely Chanel for me, but hard not to be irritated by its just-take-a-piss-as-much-as-you-can price increases (and reduction in quality)
