It's this ok for a wedding? (BILs) I don't usually do long, so a little out of my comfort zone but I love it! Just wondered what other people's opinions were. Thanks!

It's a bit Love Island.

Now you say it, I see it. Love Island.

Unclecornelius · 12/07/2023 09:12

I love the dress@Matildahoney .
Wear what you feel good in.

tunbridgeoutrage · 12/07/2023 11:02

It's stunning. I too am not sure it's suitable for a wedding. But only you know the sort of crowd who'll be there. This ultra glam look is normal for some crowds.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 12/07/2023 11:08

It’s not that it’s too dressy. Or that it’s too figure hugging. All of that is fine if you like it. It’s that it’s obviously an evening dress. It’s not a dress that would be considered a dress to wear to a wedding. Obviously wear what you want to wear. But you asked if it was suitable for a wedding. And the truth, in many people’s views, is “no not really as it’s an evening dress”. It kind of might look like you don’t quite know what’s what if you turn up during the day at a country wedding wearing that. But if you are a confident sort and everyone there knows you, that might not matter to you. Which is fine.

I also think that although it is not a cheap dress it might not be finished that well. Decent evening gowns in nice fabric, finished off well tend to be a bit more expensive. At that budget you would have a lot more scope for a really nicely made “day dress”.

SilverDrawer · 12/07/2023 11:35

I think it’s gorgeous, and will be fab with a bump.

i went to a country house wedding recently and this style seems entirely appropriate.

Have a lovely time

ALittleBitAlexa · 12/07/2023 11:41

I'm making her an auntie again though, she honestly won't give a monkeys what I turn up on 🙄

I don't think it's quite right for a wedding. It's not the length or the fact it's so fitted. I think it's the fishtail, it's too bridal/red carpet and yes, Love Island. Although it is nicer in the blue and green IMO, there's something about the coral in bodycon with that fabric that reminds me of clubbing when I was 18.

A couple of options that are similar vibes but less OTT:

Or what about a jumpsuit if you want something a bit different from your usual dresses?

Btw... if the bride has said you can wear white or a bridesmaid colour, are you sure she isn't making fun of you? Do you have form for stealing the show/main character energy..?

If you want something long OP how about going for one with a pattern in. I'm not sure how a maxi dress would sit on your bump. But there are some really lovely maternity ones.

Waffle78 · 12/07/2023 12:46

Plus I think that dress will draw attention to your bump more. I wore a dress similar style but purple when I was pregnant with my son. i had lots of people feeling the need to touch my bump hated it.

Jesus how patronising 😂

OP - I’ve bought many dresses form Club L London and they were finished beautifully in really nice, good quality fabric.

Clementine183 · 12/07/2023 15:16

To be fair, it's in the maternity section so presumably it's been cut and designed for a bump, so don't think that's an issue. I like it - if it's a dressy, fairly glam sort of wedding then I think it'll fit in well and it doesn't sound like the bride will be concerned about being upstaged!

CC4712 · 12/07/2023 15:43

OP- By your replies, you clearly don't care what any of us think anyway. If you feel comfortable and love it- go for it.

The fact you wear dresses to work daily- is irrelevant!
Asking the bride- dreadful idea. Of course she is going to say 'well, thats fine/ok/nice'. Don't put her on the stop to have to say something positive because you've already bought it!

Why don't I like it- even 1 size up as you said you've bought- its just so tight and screams 'look at MEEEEE.' I have nothing against dressing up for a wedding, or even a full length if you want, but its polyester and looks incredibly hot, and dare I say cheap. Just my opinion though- which you asked for.

MyAnacondaMight · 12/07/2023 16:27

It’s an evening dress and has way too much Main Character energy for a wedding.

Some of those Seraphine dresses are lovely.

gangdangit · 12/07/2023 18:02

Yes it is fine.

Most young people nowadays wear similar to weddings. People don't tend to wear fascinators and tea dresses like they used but have merged evening dresses with wedding dresses. Unless you're going to a royal wedding! Is it a royal wedding?

Meeting · 12/07/2023 18:35

The way people are talking about this dress you'd think it was a fully beaded ball gown! It's a plain coral maxi dress with an interesting neckline.

God help you all if you ever get invited to a gypsy wedding!!

Matildahoney · 12/07/2023 20:10

As I said I was interested in others opinions! I have other options ordered which I ordered at the same time from various places and different styles. I tried some of the below the knee dresses from club l, but they were far too ruched and made me look bigger.
IMO the seraphine dresses are pretty frumpy! I'm too short & they're too floaty for me, and I'm only 30.

@CC4712 my point, which you completely missed, about wearing dresses daily was that I wanted something different to what I would usually wear, and lots that people suggest on other posts are what I would wear to work.
The bride is not a people pleaser and if she didn't think it appropriate for her wedding she would 100% say!
