It's this ok for a wedding? (BILs) I don't usually do long, so a little out of my comfort zone but I love it! Just wondered what other people's opinions were. Thanks!

No

Matildahoney · 11/07/2023 22:04

So for those of you who have said no, why not, and our of interest what would you wear?

Topictwenty · 11/07/2023 22:10

The reason I said no, is that full length body con is not what I’d ever consider for a wedding. Appreciate not everyone will share this view but I just find it too “look at me!” for a wedding.

Yeah, I don't really understand why it's not suitable for a wedding either. I think it's really nice. I honestly think it would look especially nice with a baby bump too.

I'd go in a full on top to toe sequin dress myself, but I like dressing very extravagantly. I don't really care what the occasion is - if I want to dress up, I wear what I want! Feathers, sequins, loads of jewellery, bring it on! :)

Love the colour but it’s an evening gown, not suitable for most UK weddings. I’d think you were trying to upstage the bride or be a bridesmaid.

I agree. Its gorgeous but it's going to hug every part of you. You may well end up getting a lot of attention and it really should be about the bride.

Having said that I follow a number of fashion influencers on Instagram who get asked for wedding outfit ideas a lot, and they ALWAYS recommend something that IMO would upstage the bride, so maybe it's ok nowadays!

Matildahoney · 11/07/2023 22:31

It actually doesn't hug everything, it hugs the bump then it's quite loose around the legs. And the low bit doesn't sit quite as low or quite as wide apart on me.
I think the model probably has a smaller size on whereas I actually sized up thinking their stuff would be cut on the small side.

@OldBeller to be fair we are always, as a family more dressed up than most when we go anywhere! People just don't seem to bother any more, some of the posts I've seen re wedding outfits I'd wear to work!

I used to dress up when I worked in an office too. I work in really casual environments now too and I wear anything unusual or that will stand out. Why not?

I say wear it if you like it. I genuinely don't see anything wrong with it. Really don't think you would upstage the bride. It's not like it's white or has a massive skirt on it.

TRexTara · 11/07/2023 22:37

I think it's beautiful. It's a lovely colour too. Go for it.

Matildahoney · 11/07/2023 22:40

@OldBeller I agree with you! Life's too short to not wear what you love & be who you want to be!
I was just interested in others opinions 😂 like I say the bride said she wouldn't care if I wore white, it doesn't suit me though! 😂 Might ask her when I see her, I'm making her an auntie again though, she honestly won't give a monkeys what I turn up on, she can't wait!

Ace! Aw that's lovely. I'm sure she'd be delighted to see you pregnant in such a lovely dress at her wedding!

Yeah, definitely, wear what you want. I get told I get dressed up like a disco ball and I'm very happy with it. Last time I was out, I was in a backless silk shirt and zebra print trousers.

Matildahoney · 11/07/2023 22:48

@OldBeller beats being the same as everyone else! Backless silk shirt sounds lovely, I could never pull the trousers off but I bet they looked great together!

It was lovely in the hot weather! Perfect thing to wear.

The trousers are more subtle than they sound.

caringcarer · 11/07/2023 23:31

It's a nice dress but not really a dress to wear to a wedding and especially if 6 months pregnant.

FlissyPaps · 12/07/2023 02:52

Beautiful dress OP. If you like it and feel good in it then wear it! Seems perfectly suitable for a summer wedding.

I’m in my 20’s and most weddings I’ve been to recently people my age wear similar.

Most people on Mumsnet seem to only think frumpy dresses are suitable for weddings.

Notquitethere60 · 12/07/2023 03:43

For the Instagram generation it’s perfect. For the rest of us no

Waffle78 · 12/07/2023 05:35

It's lovely but a bit too glam and sexy. Unless it's just for the evening do. Something knee length would be better.

Meeting · 12/07/2023 06:21

OP I find the dresses people recommend for weddings on here awful and like you say more like work wear. That's a stunning dress and would be 10000% wedding appropriate in my circle.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/07/2023 07:24

I absolutely would wear that in your shoes op. For reference my 15 yo dd will be wearing this dress to a wedding. We bought it when the MOB visited us earlier in the year.

Gorgeous! And I love slim fitting clothes on a pregnant woman, such a beautiful shape!

chunkychunks · 12/07/2023 07:32

I love it. Get it!

Topictwenty · 12/07/2023 08:01

Why were you unsure about it op, to ask the question in the first place?

pictoosh · 12/07/2023 08:08

I think it's fine for a wedding and if you can pull it off why not?
Got to say I don't like the colour. I don't like anything in coral though and find it a garish, unflattering colour on most. That's only my weird opinion though, if you love coral choose it.

Mmmmpavlova · 12/07/2023 08:13

I find MN really funny when it comes to dressing for weddings.

Where I'm from, people (of all ages) dress up for weddings. A dress you would wear to an awards ceremony would be exactly the type of thing you would wear to a wedding.

Having said that, this dress is nice OP, and I really like the colour, but if it was me at 6 months pregnant, I'd be worried it might be clingy/ unforgiving? Although it probably depends on your bump and how tall you are - it could look fab in the right circumstances!
