What should DH wear to Wimbledon?

DH has an outdoorsy job and actually no smart clothes, apart from one lovely suit that is about 15 years old!

He’s never been to Wimbledon before, what should he wear? He’ll be with smartly dressed (slightly snooty) people.

Any links to specific products would be good! I know nothing about / don’t much care about men’s fashion!

When you say he will be with the smartly dressed people where exactly? In the main stands or one of the boxes? The boxes generally have a dress code. In the main stands a shirt and a pair of chinos will probably be fine.

To actually watch the tennis, he can wear absolutely anything.

If by "slightly snooty people" (rather an offensive description, I feel) you mean he'll be in hospitality, then it might be better to wear a suit, collar and tie.
You see all kinds of dress at Wimbledon..... the folks who have been sitting in The Queue for 10 hours are not dressed up!
He also needs to consider the weather, if on outside courts.

WandaWonder · 08/07/2023 12:49

What does he want to wear?

Ohmylovejune · 08/07/2023 12:49

My Dad wore trousers and a shirt last year for men's final but we only had seats, no group to match up with nor hospitality access to worry about.

We sat with varying groups and most who had lanyards on (presumably part of a group with hospitality) were dressed smart casual with trousers, shirt and blazer. It was boiling hot so they may have originally had a tie on and taken it off by the time the game started.

Most women wore smart casual dresses or two pieces. A few had high heels but not many at the match - mainly they had lovely coordinating sandals or fashion pumps.

Sorry that did sound judgemental. By snooty I meant that they were judgey (invited by his brother, who is v corporate and always making fun of DH’s clothes). But I realise I am being as judgemental myself by calling them snooty! They are very nice, but just slightly disapprove of DH’s job / lifestyle (he works outside) and like smartness.

He’d wear jeans! But he’ll be with corporate hospitality people so I don’t think that’s ok.

But really, I don’t know. I have been before but wasn’t paying any attention to what men wore! I also wasn’t there for any kind of corporate thing. It’s easy as a woman. I just wore a summer dress and sandals - that was the end of it!

Do you think non-jeans-trousers and a blazer from his suit would work? Plus a shirt?

Or his full suit better?

I think chinos and a polo shirt would be fine and more like what he usually wears and feels comfortable in.

I've never been but I think a full work suit, unless it were a linen or cotton summer suit, would look weird. If he has a linen or cotton summer suit , that would be fine.

Livinginanotherworld · 08/07/2023 13:19

I’d say chinos, a polo shirt or summer shirt and blazer with some deck shoes. Definitely not trainers or jeans.

Holidaytime8 · 08/07/2023 13:22

Thank you all!

Any ideas of good brands? He’s willing to invest to keep it as he really doesn’t have anything “in between” a suit or outdoorsy wear / jeans.

He doesn’t own any chinos! Or any polo shirts / summer shirts! (We had a big clothing cull a few years ago.)

Don't wear a work suit to Wimbledon!

Chinos, shirt and linen jacket.

Shoes and belt to match.

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2023 14:08

Try White Label for chinos @Holidaytime8

Songinmyheart · 08/07/2023 14:09

I went with DH this week. Every other man was in beige chinos, pale blue shirt and beige of navy linen jacket with loafers.

BarelyLiterate · 08/07/2023 14:27

I would go for light coloured chinos, a pastel coloured polo shirt or collared shirt in white, pink or pale blue and a lightweight blue single berated blazer. Boat shoes & a matching belt. A pocket square matching the shirt would be a nice finishing touch. Something like this?

Shirt and trousers/chinos/jeans. Linen blazer if he has one. Sun hat is a must on a sunny day.

mynameiscalypso · 08/07/2023 18:45

DH went to a hospitality thing on Centre Court yesterday. He wore chinos (from Gap) and a Ted Baker polo shirt. He had a blazer with him too but didn't really wear it apparently. I was slightly surprised that he wore his very casual Sketchers but he wasn't out of place.

DressDilemma · 08/07/2023 18:53

No need to wear a proper suit and tie, unless of course he is sitting in the royal box. I get invited to Wimbledon often for corporate hospitality events Everett I need to follow a smart casual dress code. Lots of CEOs and corporate high flyers. This is what I think.

  • Dress for comfort. It can get very hot and exhausting.
  • Wear linen or cotton.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Regular shoes will also work fine. I see many people in smart trainers too.
  • Linen blazer if it is a very formal hospitality event.
  • Sun hat and glasses.
Businessflake · 08/07/2023 19:04

I went in corporate hospitality last year with OH and he wore chinos and a shirt. Definitely no blazer because he doesn’t have one.
