It's caught my eye. Not at all my style, I'm told I scrub up OK but I'm generally very ordinarily dressed. Sometimes a short skirt.but pretty modest.

I have and evening wedding do to go to. Lots of people I know there, including one I aim to impress 😆

I'm 53, tall, slim, blonde, but not in the least bit glam. Not much bust. I'd probably wear it with flat sandals.

Am I going to look ridiculous?

Is the blue better?

If you are trying to attract someone you know you need to appear as yourself, not as someone you will never be again.

Excellent point

I think it would either look 1. Super gorgeous and glamorous Or 2. Look super trashy and try hard (but fail). I think you'd have to order it to see. My first thought was also - check what the bridesmaids are wearing.

At least buy her a drink first!

😂😂😂

VWFF · 29/06/2023 08:41

I wear some Lipsy clothes and I'm definitely not a teenager.

VWFF · 29/06/2023 08:43

Doggymummar · 29/06/2023 07:24

I thought Lipsy was a teen brand, I'm the same age as you and it's not on my radar. If it looks good and makes you feel confident go for it.

I've just looked on the Next website at Lipsy and models aren't teenagers. What made you think this?

Uppitydown · 29/06/2023 08:45

How can the model have EXACTLY the same pose on the 2 different dresses???Confused

Uppitydown · 29/06/2023 08:46

Aah images won't load

You are wrong there. Lots of women of any age buy Lipsey. I have a few dresses and I’m 58. They are reasonably priced and trendier/younger than a lot of John Lewis, seasalter and Hobbs dresses.

OP wear with a pair of flat shiney silver sandles. Don’t wear loads of jewellery. It’s gorgeous.

You can be yourself in any outfit. If you suddenly want to be glam, go for it and enjoy yourself!

Lillyrosemay · 29/06/2023 09:11

Personally I think it’s a bit try hard for a wedding and you may feel overdressed. I don’t think you need to overdo the sex appeal to pull, not unless it’s just a shag you’re after. I’m your age and I think it’s a bit dated and tacky. I think you can do sex appeal and elegance, so for me it’s a no.

thesugarbumfairy · 29/06/2023 09:31

It looks like something you'd get from a cheap Chinese store imo. for a prom. If you are tall and slim you could wear anything and look amazing.

dinmin · 29/06/2023 09:35

Those saying it looks dated… the current trend seems to be late 90s/noughties revival! I find it odd too but it’s come back

RosesAndHellebores · 29/06/2023 09:40

I too think it looks a bit like a posh nightie.

Peridot1 · 29/06/2023 09:44

I think it really depends a lot on how dressy the wedding and the venue are. It would be a bit much for me. It’s more an evening dress for a ball or similar.

There own website describes them a a youthful brand. The store in our town is like Hollister with all size zero tweens outside or buying prom dresses. I may have the wrong impression I said " I thought " not "it is"

YukoandHiro · 29/06/2023 10:30

I think without big boobs this dress has the potential to be unflattering on the stomach when worn with flat shoes

Bought not for those who lived through it first time and it’s not come back that much where everyone would look at that and think ooh height of fashion.

and I really don’t think the op is buying it as she thinks it’s the height of fashion.

YukoandHiro · 29/06/2023 10:31

As for Lipsey - it was a teen brand when we were teens but that was 30 years ago, so...

PeaceGoodMercutio · 29/06/2023 10:35

Depending on your colouring, could look really good in burgundy or navy. Not the summery-ist colours but for evening, they still work.
Please don't wear flats. You are tall and slim, wear heels! Elongate those legs even more and make the guy you fancy stare.
If you are a pale blonde, with not much contrast in face and hair I would add a darker lip or smoky eye makeup to up your contrast.

Lillyrosemay · 29/06/2023 10:37

If I was at an evening wedding receptionand the op wandered in in that, I’d wonder a if she was a bridesmaid, b was trying to attention seek/prone to overdressing, c stuck in the 90s. but primarily I’d think desperately trying to pull. However I’d also admire her guts , a bit like I admire Adam lambert when he over dresses.

as said, you can do sexy and elegant. But depends if you want a relationship or just a shag. It depends what message she’s trying to send, as as much as we might not like it, our clothes say something about us and that dress is over the top for this event and gives a loud statement.

It's gorgeous. I'd love to be able to pull it off

“At least buy her a drink first”

🤣

It’s lovely, great colour and detailing. Personally, would prefer a shorter slash on the side but I’m a less is more sort of person.

mewkins · 29/06/2023 10:40

It is too prom dress for my liking. I think there are better and cooler dresses out there.

Sorry I didn't mean to come across as rude.

There are some lovely clothes on the Next website that not many teenagers would wear. I never wore Lipsy when I was younger so maybe they have changed their styles to suit a wider range.

Still shocks me that people like you exist.

I think it looks like a dress for someone in their mid fifties. The colour, the fabric, the cut are all quite old fashioned and really weird for a summer wedding and just wouldn't go with flats at all.

I'm not planning to start dressing a certain way when I'm in my 50's. It's not like years ago when everyone had a Grandma perm & dye when they reach 40.
