As the the title says, I want to learn how to do my own blow drys... is it possible with a normal hairdryer and non-trained hands?

Any tips? How-to guides ?

Best I've managed is with babyliss big hair!

I want to know too

Yes, I’m very good at blow drying my hair. I use the same L’Oréal professional products as the salon, shampoo, conditioner and blow dry spray. A Parlux hairdryer and a big Balmain brush. Sectioning it off - takes me 30 mins.

My hair is really thick and curly and I make it smooth/sleek. It saves me time when I dry it as I don’t have to touch it til day 4 when I wash it again.

I’ve managed it with the Shark Flex Style - I dry it roughly first then curl it with the barrels. I then pop a small front section, small middle section and small back section in Velcro rollers and leave to fully cool. Then I take them out, brush out the curls and use the JVN complete air dry creme to smooth it out. I’ve honestly never had so many compliments on my hair!

This is the sort of thing I can achieve in 20 mins

You want one of these
Denman D79 Denman ThermoCeramic Straightening Brush, black

they are magic. They do the straightening bit a hairdresser does with the big round brush, but without the effort. And actually being able to do that on yourself.

Following with interest I’m so mediocre!

lavagal · 27/06/2023 21:09

I'm so crap.I blast dry to a frizzy mess and then straighten. Any tips welcomed

OiCatThatsMySeat · 27/06/2023 21:17

I came on to say Babyliss big hair too, but I'm intrigued by the Denman straightening brush mentioned by a PP above!

MelaniaT · 27/06/2023 21:26

I have a big hair and a straightening brush- the big hair is great. The straightening brush isn’t right for my very silky hair and makes it lank. No way can I do it with brush and dryer like a hairdresser- it completely ties my brain in a knot to try to do the back while looking in a mirror and I end up moving my left arm when I try to move my right, or my arm goes up when it should go down. Very weird.

tobee · 27/06/2023 21:28

I use Babyliss big hair for body. I use a Babyliss smoothing brush for when I want a sleeker look. Plus a heat protector spray.

Rubytinsleslippers · 27/06/2023 21:28

Brad Mondo tutorial on YouTube or another stylist - I never realised all the tiny differences that make the whole thing look more polished.
Section your hair, framing the face, the complete difference brushes make.. it was a revelation.

shggg245 · 27/06/2023 21:36

Yep I've got wavy, likely to frizz hair which will go curly at the slightest suggestion of humidity, but not in a good way, I just look unlempt.

So bouncy sleek hair is what I want.....I first use some sort of heat protector, then light mist of styling lift type product, Dyson dryer with sleek nozzle, round barrel brush right to the ends pointing downwards, section off bit by bit, ending with the crown. Cool blast off to set, then gently straighten (cloud 9) really annoying curly bit then mess up so looks swishy.....mid-length bob. 20 mins max.

I sometimes use big hair but find my hair drops quickly. I also bought revlon thing which is pretty good but doesn't rotate....heated curlers are also ace.

My quest (obsession) continues....🙂

Use the brushhhh

use the brushhhhhh

you won’t need to straighten and it lasts longer than straightened hair. Marginally better for your hair as well.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 27/06/2023 21:41

What's a good blow dry spray?
Assuming it's different from heat protector spray.

shggg245 · 27/06/2023 21:46

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 I buy one from my hairdresser, don't use much so a 20 quid bottle lasts at least 3 months, if I'm going out I apply it more liberally.

Reading these post, made me realise why I am no good, because I can’t be fucking arsed with Velcro, rollers and sectioning

And that’s the beauty of “the brush”
I was sold one by a hair dresser 20 something years ago and never looked back. If your cleverer than me you can get it to flick up or under - I’m not clever.
I do section mine as I have curly hair, the underneath has to be flat for the top to sit nicely. It’s so quick and easy. I cried when my first one broke.

BrandyandGinger · 27/06/2023 22:28

I'm also very interested in the Denman brush. My hair is quite short, a chin length bob, but I'm letting it grow. Do you think it'd work for shorter hair?

GormlessBeast · 27/06/2023 22:32

How do you use the brush? It looks interesting.

fireflyloo · 27/06/2023 22:37

I have a brush but not keen. I prefer using this www.problogroup.com

DelilahBucket · 27/06/2023 22:41

Haven't straightened my hair after washing it for years after learning to blow dry it. My hairdresser taught me your hair needs to be 80% dry before you start styling to avoid frizz. A good ceramic round brush and decent hairdryer plus sectioning it off. I used YouTube to help me learn.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 27/06/2023 22:52

I sold my Babyliss Big Hair as I didn't get on with it. The person who bought it off me was really surprised, she loved hers and it had just broken. I'm pretty uncoordinated though so that might have been why.

Perime · 27/06/2023 23:20

Placemarking as my watch button isn't working

Theos · 28/06/2023 06:43

No I can’t manipulate the brush. I’ve got one very similar
