Do companies exist who can sell my clothes for me?

I have too much stuff. I also have no time to sell it all. Do companies exist who can sell my stuff for me? I have a lot of really good high end stuff and tons of hush, me and Em, etc. I could just take it all to the charity shop and be done but I’m annoyed at myself for wasting so much cash and stuff I never way I am keen to recoup sunk costs.
Has anyone used such a service and can recommend to me? Many thanks!

You could just bung the whole lot on eBay as a job lot with a reserve price that you would be happy with? Then you recoup a bit of money and someone else can sell them on at their leisure.

CuteCillian · 18/06/2023 12:36

Watching with interest. I have loads of clothes, often new with tags, to get rid of. I can't be packing lots of bits and taking them to the post office and, when I've donated to charity shops I'm sure the stuff goes for pennies.

Alsogoingtogetslated · 18/06/2023 13:35

I didn’t think about bunging the lot on eBay - good idea. There must be a gap in the market for people to seek other people’s clothes?

Dress agencies have this gap in the market covered.

Mumlyf1986 · 18/06/2023 13:39

Have you looked at the app Vinted?

It's amazing!

So easy to upload pics of ur stuff and sell at a price. Just have to post if off once someone buys it. I use it all the time to buy and sell.

It's really good for buying stuff for kids too as they grow out of stuff so quick.

Bananalanacake · 18/06/2023 13:47

I sold some of my clothes at a car boot sale, didn't expect too much money but it was better than throwing in the textile bin.

Quinque · 18/06/2023 13:55

Do you have a 50/50 shop locally? You drop everything off and they sell them for you. You get half the selling price. Even our very small town has one, the owner only accepts items that are good quality and in excellent condition.

beeboop2018 · 18/06/2023 14:11

Hi
I know an online business and they sell on high end clothes etc. They are on Instagram as relovedagain. I know the person who runs it hence recommending them the person's blog on Instagram under catwalkgee.

Might be what you're looking for to take the hassle out of selling on stuff yourself. Contact them and they give you an idea of they can sell your stuff and for a multiple items they send prepaid envelops to sent the items to them in London.

Consignment shop

Hire someone

Vinted

triggers34 · 18/06/2023 14:48

Honestly Vinted
It's so easy , sort your stuff into seasons and sell at appropriate times . Look at what your things are selling for on eBay and price a tiny bit lower . Aim to put things on say 5 items at a time and maybe load twice/week .
Hush and Me+em are popular brands so if priced right will go . Worth getting parcel bags from Amazon and researching which is best way to post , I use Yodel because I live right by the shop.

Thank you for the replies- I will take a look at some of the ideas. We don’t seem to have a 50/50 shop around (I have never heard of them but wish we did!). I shop on Vinted but I literally want someone to sell it for me - I don’t have the time to do it myself no matter how easy.
I wonder if there is a gap in the market here for people like me that want to pay someone to sell their stuff on Vinted and eBay!

I'm sure you can find someone op if it's all top end designer stuff that is going to go for decent wedge. If it's just high street stuff either sell it on vinted (it's so easy) or just dump it in the charity bin. Life is too short

Xoxoxxx · 11/12/2023 20:09

Hi what is this please the 50/50 shop? I googled it and nothing come up I’m in the same position I have so much stuff and just not any time to list it all online.

villagelife1992 · 11/12/2023 20:33

We have a couple of 50/50 shops in our village. They take good quality clothing, put it for sale in the shop and online and split the profits. If you tell us your location I'm sure someone could tell you one near by.

Xoxoxxx · 12/12/2023 02:55

What’s a 50/50 shop though I understand the concept but where would I look to find one I’m in Essex

Try searching on Google for "consignment store", "consignment shop" or "dress agency".

YireosDodeAver · 12/12/2023 03:25

There are lots of small independent shops like the one @Xoxoxxx mentions. My mum has been taking all her posh mother-of-the-bride type outfits to one such. I think each cluster of small towns and villages in the "naicer" counties where posher people congregate will have one. Try going onto Google maps in your area and search for "preloved vintage clothing"

monsteraa · 12/12/2023 04:25

Just came on to say I really don't recommend Thrift.

I tried them and they were absolutely terrible, they lost half of the stuff I sent them. Reading reviews after I realised this was not uncommon. It took months to resolve with terrible customer service, and all they offered in the end was a small voucher to spend on their own website. It didn't even cover the clothes they'd lost but I gave up.

Thrift are a very disorganised company, which is a shame because it has really good potential as an idea.

Chocolateteabag · 12/12/2023 10:01

Yep I would not recommend Thrift

Their pictures are awful - so dark so you cannot see what clothes look like
And they mess up descriptions/sizes

I have sent high end stuff off and it has been sold for peanuts because they didn't label it properly, and then I get nothing as it's "below their price level to pay out"

I've tried contacting them to suggest better photographs (or just better lighting) but no response

Id suggest seeing if you can get an enterprising teenager to sell them for you on Vinted and split the profits

Passingthethyme · 12/12/2023 10:11

Get a teen you know to do it and give them a cut

poetryandwine · 12/12/2023 11:34

I think loads of teens would enjoy doing this for less of a cut than a consignment shop will take (50%?) Great idea, @Passingthethyme

You just need someone conscientious, OP

lindyloo57 · 12/12/2023 12:44

I used to sell with a 50 50 shop, trouble was the owner didn't know her brands, she ask £10 for a jacket which cost £100 new and the same for a jacket from newlook, it was ok if you were a buyer but as a seller I felt she didn't ask enough, you couldn't say what you wanted for a item, she made that decision.

missmoon · 12/12/2023 13:11

I also had a bad experience with Thrift - charged to pick up the bags, took a significant cut, and didn't post all the things I sent on their website, so I didn't get my share of those (no idea what happened to them).

EllagrmlC · 10/05/2024 12:18

Hey, if still available and depending on location I can do this for you ! Let me know x
