Updating my make up look

Hello S&B
Can you help? My make up routine is stuck in the 90s (I'm 48) and I would really like to update to a more modern look. Where can I go to get this done? I've had make up counter sessions before but the lighting I'm department stores is always odd etc and they have never been quite right. I sort of need someone young to show me all the new products that I haven't kept up with and all the new ways to apply it . Has anyone been in the same position? What did you do?

Goodness me! Do you guys get out in the morning before 10 am? OK I'm pretty ancient (72) but for years I've washed my face with soap and water, moisturised with Simple, mascara, lipstick, job done. If I'm looking a bit grey at the end of winter I might use a tinted moisturiser. Laura Mercier, recommended on here. My two recent beauty investments were an eyebrow pencil (that cost a silly amount) and some Boots brightening eye gel which I've had an allergic reaction to. Maybe looking like I've been in a boxing ring has put me off make up but do these complicated, not to say pricey, routines really achieve anything? I might add I'm frequently told I have lovely skin.

I did this a few years ago. Used a YouTuber who specifically aims at women in their late 40s and above talks through the make up mistakes etc. super helpful

The main thing I have worked out is it's all about the skin prep too. So i use the Medik 8 skin care and the Trinny BB and tinted serums etc.

I really avoid foundation now my skin is changing and opt for a more fresh, glowy look instead.

I'm 51 by the way.

Thank you for the video, I’m guilty of a few things on the wrong way to apply make up 😱will now change it to the right way, all makes sense now ..

The hardest thing for me is to find the colour that suits me.

This has been a very helpful thread as I was going to post a similar request for advice. I'm 50, pretty pale, decent skin (thanks to tret, daily spf and being a little chubby) but looking to refresh my make up. I have a £100 gift card for John Lewis that needs spending soon so what concessions would you all recommend? I prefer a natural look (because I'm rubbish at more dramatic looks) and cream eye shadows. Need a good concealer and fancy stick bronzers and blush.

@Baffledismydefault I think the most helpful concession is Bobbi Brown, they have recommended products from other concessions too.

Honestly though I find the most time efficient make up routine to be Trinny. But I do compliment that with a few other bits.

The other thing I use which I am surprised at the results of is the UKlash serum and mascara.

My menopausal eyelashes were all stubby but the serum has worked really well, now thicker and a lot longer but it took about 3 months.
