here are mine:

always wear nice underwear/nightwear
always wear good fitted clothes - never too tight. better to be a bit on the loose side
always wear nice shoes and always polished
always wear perfume
always have styled hair
use a nice face and body moisturiser every day
accessorise with jewellery, belts, scarves, bags etc
little bit of lippy, blusher, eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara goes a long way
always have painted finger/toe nails
get your eyebrows threaded for the best shape
get your eyelashes tinted
shave arm pits every day in shower and also legs if you don't wax them.
don't wear trainers or tracksuit bottoms unless you are planning on doing any actual exercise.
never wear anything with a cartoon character on it.

A good night's sleep is great for one's skin, as is drinking at least a litre of Evian every day.

I also eat a lot of the following; blueberries, tomatoes, grapes, other berries. I find that improves my skin.

This is going to sound a bit poncy but I'm a big fan of diamond microdermabrasion facials - I get very few spots now and don't need much foundation either.

electra · 21/02/2008 20:42

Agree about eyebrow threading too

nappyaddict · 21/02/2008 21:04

i don't find it takes any extra time at all. putting on nice underwear rather than greying underwear takes no more time. neither does putting on a pair of nice shoes rather than a pair of trainers. my make up takes me 5 minutes max, shaving arm pits 30 secons, moisturiser again takes 2 mins and a squirt of perfume takes 2 seconds. i straighten my hair which takes 5 minutes but i do have fairly straight hair anyway.

Cover all the mirrors!

Never wear anything to small or too baggy. Spend time putting on make-up. Wash and dry hair every day. Gawd I can't beleive i just typed all that...I must be getting old. When I was younger I favoured the natural look! At my age that is sadly just an amusing memory...

Wotzonked · 21/02/2008 21:09

lol at cover the mirrors

or keep well back and make half close your eyes.

also hide the scales and.. oh Ok, I have avoidance down to a fine art!

snowleopard · 21/02/2008 21:32

And yes have poor eyesight is another handy tip, as I recently discovered when I got my first specs. Ah, that's why I thought I was looking pretty hot for my age

Wotzonked · 21/02/2008 21:45

Yes my whiskers vanish when I can't find my specs

OrmIrian · 21/02/2008 21:46

Sadly I have contact lens now. Cruel and unforgiving little bits of plastic

Wotzonked · 21/02/2008 21:48

But when you take them out I bet you are gorgeous and 10lbs lighter and look like you've had botox

(like me)

OrmIrian · 21/02/2008 21:49

Of course wotzonked. Goes without saying!

nappyaddict · 21/02/2008 21:52

i'm intrigued about good tights though ... do you mean slimming ones?

Sazisi · 21/02/2008 21:53

squint when you look in the mirror

seriously, I just mostly accept myself, warts and all (not literally ). I don't worry about it really. I make an effort when I feel the need, and don't scrub up too badly.

dontwanttogetoutofbed, sounds like we have the same mum

slim22 · 21/02/2008 21:57

Clean straight hair, fresh skin, groomed nails, no body hair .......and initiating sex with DH, that's always a winner.

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 21/02/2008 22:00

no i don't mean slimming ones. i mean nice wolford tights in all different sheers/shines/deniers and all stay ups.

they just feel great, and make your legs look fabulous. since you beleive in great undergarments, then i think its quite the same.

sazisi - my mum is great for the most part, but i really do think that not learning to take care of your physical self can be a huuuge problem. i really feel like i had a lot to teach myself in this respect. and just imagine what i went through in high school before i was aware of all this!

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 21/02/2008 22:01

sorry 'believe'

nappyaddict · 21/02/2008 22:02

i dunno i just get mine from debenhams or marks and spencers. black, brown or nude. some 60 den, some 40 den and some 20 den. not keen on the shiny ones though.

I think that it's all a bit of a con really, perpetuated by the cosmetics and beauty industry. I look just fine as I am - I don't see any guys going out and getting their eybrows threaded (actually I have no idea what that means, but it sounds painful!). I mean each to their own, but I won't be teaching my daughter that she has to "put her face on" or that she somehow has no value if she hasn't made some great effort about how she looks. Having said that sadly she seems to have picked up that message already I expect to be valued for who I am and my skills and knowledge and I worry that here is just way too much emphasis on looks.

But then the only mirror I tend to come across is in the loo at work, I don't own a pair of weighing scales, and I use the iron maybe once or twice a year. I think the important thing is that when you look at yourself in the mirror you give yourself a smile and then move on! I am aware that I could be considered a bit weird on this

Wuxiapian · 21/02/2008 22:53

The wisest words I've heard on this thread so far, nooka.

wobbegong · 22/02/2008 08:39
  1. scrape off baby sick
  2. remember to do up nursing bra after feeding baby
  3. try not to go out in public with hair on sideways
  4. hang around local area and try to avoid going into business districts like the City where all the ladies are groomed to the nines and tottering around in heels.
Maidamess · 22/02/2008 08:56

Losing a few pounds makes me feel a whollllle lot better. India Knight said there is no meal that tastes as good as being slimmer feels, and for me thats true.

choccypig · 22/02/2008 10:24

So long as I shower and wash hair, and put on clean clothes and earings, that's me happy.

snowleopard · 22/02/2008 10:39

"there is no meal that tastes as good as being slimmer feels"

oooh I find that quite scary. And (for me) not true. And it suggests it's a good idea to actually go without meals, which is dangerous and actually counterproductive to being a healthy weight

KAZRED · 22/02/2008 10:39

throckenholt I couldn't agree more, lifes too short. Live to live life, not waste time worrying how you look!! Clean is best, up the rest!!

Maidamess · 22/02/2008 12:50

Noooo, snowleopard thats not how I take it.

To me it means 'Do you really need those extra two slices of thick white soft toast dripping with salty butter?'

And for me, one of lifes greedy guts, the answer is usually NO. The short lived enjoyment I would get from pushing the toast into my giant gob is just that, short lived.

The feeling I have from having lost a couple of pounds makes me feel better than any amount of toast.

Believe you me,I Never miss a meal!!
