What size would you say I am? And could I wear this dress for work?

I never feel my size matches up to my perception… weird. What size does this dress look like and also - as an aside - could I wear it for work?!

I’d say you look a slim 8.

it’s a very pretty dress, depending on where you work I’d say it could be suitable. I work for a fairly relaxed company / office and people will come in jeans and far more casual so a dress like that would maybe look a little overdressed but on a sunny day in the right environment I think it’d pass for sure

You look like a 6 or an 8. My work place has gone from being very formal to casual bleurgh. I would and do wear dresses like that because I hate casual bleurgh. I take the view that if "casual" slobbishness is fine no one should take exception to my being dressed up.

It's a lovely dress.

I think it looks really nice on you OP, would have size the dress was an 8 (not that it really matters at all what the label is since retailers vary so much across the board).

I'd say fine for the office or the summer in general, but really does depend where you work doesn't it and whether you'd get much wear out of it. Ultimately as a size 8 with a slim waist I imagine it isn't that difficult to find flattering dresses or clothing so if I didn't love it I wouldn't keep it in those circumstances.

WhereAreWeNow · 11/06/2023 07:06

I would say 6-8. The dress looks lovely on you but personally I'm not sure I'd wear it to work. It's more like something I'd wear to a wedding.

Stargazingpolarbear · 11/06/2023 11:27

Thanks all - I’m going to return it I think.
Im back in a vest and wide leg trousers today and feel much better about it.
The dress was fairly expensive so I fear cost per wear might be quite high if I keep it!

8 or 10
Pretty but for me would be a bit too much for work ..more out to lunch kinda dress but depends on your job !

CherryYree · 11/06/2023 12:04

It does look brilliant on you! We were walking through our town yesterday and so many people out and about in pretty dresses like yours - I'd keep it and wear it if I was you!

rightioly · 11/06/2023 12:08

8 and no not for work!

Katrinawaves · 11/06/2023 12:13

What do you do for a living? I’m a lawyer and probably wouldn’t wear that to work though I love it because the expectation is that we wear things a bit more tailored and formal. But other professional people in my office - eg in finance, HR or the EAs would and could wear it.

I'm a partner in a large private client firm. I would wear it to the office.

TheChosenTwo · 11/06/2023 12:17

The size has nothing to do with the dress so I’m not commenting on that, I could wear that dress to work no problem. I wouldn’t because I usually wfh in a variety of leggings and T-shirts but it’s a really nice dress!!

Yes interestingly I can imagine it working well in private client: not so much in corporate.

I'm largely in private client landownership and I crossover in renewable energy work. I don't think any of my corporate renewable energy clients have been bothered by my wearing a pretty dress either.

fairywhale · 11/06/2023 13:00

I thought you were a 6 to 8.

BethandRip · 11/06/2023 13:02

Size 12. Looks nice.

sandalsinthebin · 11/06/2023 13:25

I much prefer your usual style OP, but then I'm not a dress person.
Although sizing does depend on the brand, you do look like a very slim "true" size 8.

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2023 13:26

10 and I would not wear it to work

Topictwenty · 11/06/2023 14:30

Stargazingpolarbear · 10/06/2023 20:05

no I’m not a policewoman or anything 🤣 I think they’d probably give me a uniform if so!

No, it’s not a humblebrag - I think I look more 12-14 but vanity sizing I guess 😬😬 and certainly in underwear I look more 12-14.

How can you possibly be a size 6 or 8 and think you look like a 12-14??
