The Royal diet

How do they do it? It's not just the Princess of Wales, Beatrice is slim these days, as are other European royals, what's the secret? They all look very healthy, well proportionated for their shape with incredibly tiny waists.

It goes without saying they have access to good food/chefs etc but I doubt they are used 24/7 to meet every need (quite frankly, if I had access to such means I would be the size of a house!). They work, but not a routine 9-5 and they have young children whose lives they are very involved in.

Exercise certainly comes into it, but none look like this is done to excess.

Vegan? Gluten Free?

Looking for ideas more than debate!

Money.

DarkForces · 07/06/2023 23:27

I suspect it's not just the food and exercise, but financial security, time and energy. The royals don't have to cook, clean, organise everything, do the mental lifting...they literally have to turn up to stuff, be well briefed (by others) and look good.

Most of us have to be our own housekeeper, pa, chef, driver,... do the same for our kids and do a full time job on top of that. They are well rested with zero financial worries. Yes, they may worry about a few headlines but even if they're not royals they're some of the wealthiest people on earth.

I really don't think most people would struggle with their weight if they had that little to worry about and do

eddiemairswife · 07/06/2023 23:40

If people ate sensibly they wouldn't get fat. You don't need to be rich to eat proper .food.

Well actually you do. Right now it’s cheaper to buy cheap freezer food than it is to buy fresh. That’s happening to a lot of people across the UK now.

I also think it comes down to your family background. If you are brought up not knowing how to cook from scratch, it’s easier to stick a pizza in the oven or a ready meal in the microwave for 3 minutes. Families from poorer backgrounds don’t have the luxury to buy multiple ingredients to feed a family every day. The cost of living crisis is adding to that issue for a lot of people who perhaps did manage 3 or 4 years ago.

Also, Fergie has had major issues with her diet over the years. She talks about it frequently.

PussyGalore1 · 08/06/2023 08:12

Diet , exercise and gyms at home. However I wonder if they are sneeking in a shot of ozempic ?! Beatrice looks very toned so I think she now has a PT plus they all got nannies to look after the kids. They are hardly full time mothers in our sense of the term.

snitzelvoncrumb · 08/06/2023 08:15

I imagine it’s a combination of having a chef, dietitian and trainer. But also a stylist to find clothes that fit perfectly and hide or eventuate parts of their body. The fact that if any of the women have the slightest stomach there will be a pregnancy announcement in every media outlet probably helps too.

hatty543 · 08/06/2023 08:16

B's PT has given an interview before - but look at Victoria Beckham, works out every day and eats steamed fish/veg at every meal and has done for years.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 08/06/2023 08:54

I would definitely be motivated to be a size 6 (which I am not naturally) if I was in front of cameras most of my life. Money definitely helps, and time/facilities to work out (if I had a private pool I'd be in it for hours each day, not so much with a communal pool), nutritionists, tweakments, probably ozempic or something too for some of them.

FreakOfNature · 08/06/2023 09:05

All very valid points to think about - money probably being the root 😏 It does lead to less stress about the basics of day to day life, better diet and personal trainers. They all look incredibly healthy so must be a combination of factors.

I'd still love to know exactly what or how they eat though 🤔 Alex Jones off the One Show is another one who looks great after 3 kids in her forties, that's no mean feat.

I guess being a public figure is very much a driving force. When I think about it, I don't know anybody in real life who looks similar.

Genetics, having time/money for pt, sport, gym, treatments etc, and probably pretty restricted eating. (Of healthy food)

ElmTree22 · 08/06/2023 09:14

They have money, end of really.
Now, let me explain my theory. I don't think that eating healthy HAS to cost a lot, I do budget and meal plan and manage to prepare 3 fresh home cooked meals daily. And our food bill isn't huge. However I know there a people less fortunate than us who simply cannot afford that.

Let's break it down. They have chefs, Pts, nannies, cleaners, chauffeurs, PAs and god knows who else working behind the scenes running their lives so they don't have to defer from enjoying it. However the average person tends to work 5 days a week, has children to look after, have houses they need to clean on a daily basis and have to plan and cook their own meals and exercise, plus the many other things we all have to take care of ourselves. So there's why we might not have the time or energy to make good food choices.

Now why might we (the average Jo) make "bad food choices". Well they are the elite and have extremely luxurious lifestyles, they have luxurious cars, houses, clothes and can travel in private jets to the most wonderful destinations and really INDULGE in what their life has to offer them. Without really much effort. WE don't have the money to live such lifestyles, so where do we indulge....our food. A luxury holiday is lot more expensive than a pack of biscuits. We don't go to lavish parties so we tuck into a big old chocolate bar on a Friday night. When your life is so enriched it much be easy to steer away from food to enrich it!

Begonne · 08/06/2023 10:17

I don’t think there’s any secret diet beyond eating nutrient rich food and not exceeding your calorific needs.

Diet culture swings from one fad to the next, so that we’re always focused on a new method or superfood or system.

But if you have a life that is fast paced (which is a given in the modern world), poor sleep and you have to plan, shop and cook every meal you’re already 5 steps behind.

Lack of sleep changes our food choices, so does stress. That’s before time factors come to play. We beat our selves up for bad choices and lack of willpower but those biological imperatives are real.

I’m sure you hit your job requirements op - their job is looking good in their clothes and smiling. Imagine how much better you could be at your job if everything else was taken care of.

PussyGalore1 · 08/06/2023 11:40

I’m sure Mike Tindal has said in a podcast that Kate runs a lot everyday; lol at Eilish Mccolgan the runner she has a similar body shape, so that is the secret ladies! Get running lol

Redhenwattle701 · 08/06/2023 11:49
  1. they have time; it’s their job to look good and stay trim so a good part of their day is devoted to that, whereas us ordinary bods are fitting in gym and hair and beauty in and around a ft job, dc, running a home etc.
  2. they have help (nannies, pts, chefs)
  3. they have money to pay for the above
  4. the money also buys indoor and outdoor space and facilities in which to exercise
LadyKenya · 08/06/2023 12:10

As has been mentioned numerous times, they will all have personal chefs/ cooks. Never underestimate the power of good nutrition. Their meals will be cooked not only with the best organic ingredients, but will also be nutritionally balanced meals. They do not have to even think about putting all this together. That is the sort of things that money can buy.

Smartnugget · 08/06/2023 12:53

David Beckham has been quite open about what VB eats. Grilled fish and steamed veg, every day apparently.

Lot of truth in this. Food is a cheap indulgence/ comfort if you can’t afford much in the way of other comforts

DeliciouslyDecadent · 08/06/2023 13:19

I assume they are strong willed and eat sensibly.

No magic 'diets' - just healthy food, in sensible portions.

It's really not about money.

CosmosQueen · 08/06/2023 13:20

SarahAndQuack · 07/06/2023 23:03

It's very simple. They have lots of money. I agree that having someone available to source delicious healthy food must help. And in addition:

If you are stressed, your body tells you to reach for food (or booze).
If you are tired, it tells you the same.

You imagine what it'd be like never to come home thinking 'wow, I'm shattered' and knowing you need to be awake for another four hours minimum, until the children are in bed. Imagine if, instead of getting home and thinking 'gosh, I need a cup of tea with two sugars and a biscuit,' you got sauntered in feeling quite ok, and someone had run you a lovely bath, made you a delicious juice, and fetched your book so you could sit down for a couple of hours before nanny brought the children in to say goodnight?

Also imagine if you never woke up in the night thinking 'shit! I haven't paid the gas bill!' or 'argh, I think the car is making a funny noise and might break down'.

Your body would simply be healthier because you wouldn't be producing those stress hormones, or eating to give yourself an energy boost when your body is telling you to stop.

^^ This, 100%
My weight problem is definitely linked to very high stress levels for years on end and now my body seems reluctant to loose the weight 😵‍💫

DeliciouslyDecadent · 08/06/2023 13:21

I guess being a public figure is very much a driving force. When I think about it, I don't know anybody in real life who looks similar.

Most of my friends in their 50s and 60s are slim.

It's a choice!

Plan meals, shop wisely, eat sensibly, and do some exercise.

DeliciouslyDecadent · 08/06/2023 13:24

@SarahAndQuack I don' t know about you but I'd find being a Royal extremely stressful. Always being scrutinised from head to toe, every expression being analysed, having to turn up and smile when you might have a ghastly period, or a headache, or whatever. Nope, not a stress free life.

MotherWol · 08/06/2023 13:31

Having a personal chef probably means that they don't really have access to the food in the same way that normal people do. They're not picking at the kids' food or going to stare at the fridge in between Zoom meetings because the kitchen is more like a professional, restaurant kitchen. If they want food they'll ask for it, but they're not going to be snacking like normal people do.

I was thinking the same thing. I would be embarrassed to ask my personal chef for two small bits of cheese and a smear of mustard at 5pm to get me through the afternoon slump.. but that's what I do at home!

Comedycook · 08/06/2023 13:36

Plenty of time to exercise. How much of an average persons time is spent on mundane tasks like laundry, food shopping, cleaning, loading and unloading the dishwasher, admin etc?

I also think if you have a wonderful life in a beautiful home with interesting, fun hobbies, plenty of holidays and travel...you are far less likely to seek gratification from food because you find pleasure in other areas of life.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 08/06/2023 13:54

Exercise is part of their job. It’s scheduled in the same way we might schedule going to a meeting.

That and the chefs / catering services (if they don’t have a full time chef).
