Sandals for a city break

Can anyone recommend really comfortable sandals for walking around a city and not rubbing the skin?

We are off to the US in August and the trip will include Boston and NY. I normally use trainers for a day sightseeing but don't want to wear them for 4-5 days in a row when it's really warm.

Birkenstock but make sure you wear them in first. Once they're broken in they're the most comfortable shoes ever.

Mine are really well worn in and I loved them until the weekend when I got a massive blister.

As a native New Yorker, I echo the poster above about it being kinda grubby for sandals. Nice sandals for out to dinner or popping out for some errands, yes. But for pounding the streets all day, on and off the subway, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, etc., I think you might find it a bit icky.

It's not just New York, we are also stopping in Boston and Newport/RI.

I think it will be a mix of shoes but I just don't want to wear only trainers.

Sketchers. I call them my old lady sandals but the memory foam sole is just the comfiest. Last year I couldn't bear any other shoes as these were sooooo comfy. Bought for New York and loads of walking. If I only had one pair of sandals it would be these!!
