Olive skin, blonde hair

CreamTeaThievery · 06/06/2023 23:26

Every year I attempt to go blonde for the summer, I am very olive skinned with brown eyes and tan easily.

Every year I decide dark hair suits me better.

I am about to spend £350 on a balayage, convinced that keeping some brown around my face will suit me and I will finally have the blonde I crave.

Can blonde work with olive skin or do I need to stop wasting my money and accept what nature gave me?

£350??? 😮

BlameItOnTheGoose · 06/06/2023 23:55

Stop wasting your money. It sounds like you have a lovely natural complexion and colouring. Why do you feel the need to dye your hair blonde?

Mutabiliss · 07/06/2023 00:17

It probably doesn't suit you, it's far too warm for your skin tone. You could maybe get away with highlights but definitely not around your face, and why ruin your lovely brunette hair?

Utterlyexhausted · 07/06/2023 01:41

I'm thinking it could 100% work..Matilda Djerf is similar imo. There's always those olive skinned blondes from Scandinavia that look stunning. Go for it!

airmaxJ · 07/06/2023 01:43

Wish it was me I'm pale with blonde hair. Go for it I say

coxesorangepippin · 07/06/2023 01:51

Maybe it's not blonde enough?? You need to be peroxide?

JandalsAlways · 07/06/2023 02:52

I think blonde only looks good on some people, often if you're not naturally blonde it looks "off" somehow. Olive skin is gorgeous, why don't you go more caramel

JMAngel1 · 07/06/2023 05:24

Check out Ella Bangs on YT. She is very olive and has blonde hair. She has a whole series of videos explaining which shades of blonde work for which skin tone with a big focus on olive skin given that she has it.

Dancingroses · 07/06/2023 08:57

I tried to be blonder for years but looked washed out and found makeup challenging because I needed more definition, but at the same time, more defined makeup looked too harsh. I eventually went back to my natural colour and everyone said how good I looked, plus makeup (and clothes) colours are a breeze because it all co-ordinates like it should. Also the lack of salon upkeep as it's my own hair colour is amazing. However, I have a friend who also has olive skin and light brown hair but she looks amazing blonde, so i's really individual. I'm glad I stopped chasing the blonde though (so is my hair condition). I'm happier being a brunette and rocking it, than a straggly almost-blonde.

Topictwenty · 07/06/2023 09:02

What kind of blond do you have op? You’re likely just going for the wrong blond

CreamTeaThievery · 07/06/2023 10:50

I know I was Blush at the price tag too - it's a colour transformation by a very experienced blonde stylist. I just want to get it right this time.

I think just stay brunette it suits you but I just can't fight the itch!

I usually end up more yellow than I would like, my appointment is tomorrow so I want a good idea of what tones will suit me so I know what to ask for. Maybe that's where I keep going wrong, getting the wrong shade?

Ok this is my colouring, the hair down pic has a filter on so a little skewed the other pic (with my shocking grey on display) is natural light. (Just didn't want to take my hair down now, hence the two pics)

I feel the same way about my colours. I saw a stunning Malaysian lady on the tube yesterday who had a platinum bronde bob.
However, I think she had also lightened her skin a bit 😕 (her husband and kids were with her and it was easy to see). It was angular and dramatic. I'm not sure if she pulled it off.
I think Ella Baig (Nicola Adam's partner) manages to pull it off.

Stalkedbyzombies · 07/06/2023 11:04

Ekin-Su as well, although it looks high maintenance and she doesn't seem to be aiming for or achieve a classy look.

CremeEggThief · 07/06/2023 11:05

Probably not very helpful if you're itching to spend, but in my opinion your natural colour is FAR more attractive than ANY shade of blonde at all.

Seddon · 07/06/2023 11:05

I'm sure there's a shade of blonde out there which suits you, I'm olive skinned and the highlights around my face are mostly the colour of milky coffee, with a few pearly bits to brighten it up.

That's because I'm an old bag and my natural brunette is riddled with greys and doesnt suit my complexion anymore.

Not sure I'd go for the expense (and wreck my hair) in your case OP, what you have shown us looks beautiful.

SavvyWavvy · 07/06/2023 11:06

£350 seems like an insane amount of money to spend on something temporary. Your natural colour is lovely and suits your skin tone.

StillDre · 07/06/2023 11:08

You just have to get the right shade. Everybody can suit it if they find the right shade I think. Is it the stylist themselves recommending the shade to you usually, or do you choose? If you choose, ask them for recommendations, if they are just doing it then maybe Google for your skin tone and see what suits others who look similar to you and take the pic with you to show them.

TheMurderousGoose · 07/06/2023 11:09

Olive skin against blonde hair can look a bit jaundiced. Whenever I see olive skinned Shakira and her peroxide hair I think she'd look so much better as a brunette.

CreamTeaThievery · 07/06/2023 11:09

So many beautiful women - thanks I have lots of pics to take with me.

It's not even about being blonde, I just get bored so easily and feel like I want a big dramatic change.

I have done all the crazy colours in my youth and prefer something more natural coloured now, I have been red, copper doesn't suit me. I just need a change.

You have beautiful hair and colouring already! I'd just go for a few sunkissed lights scattered through.

BaronessBomburst · 07/06/2023 11:12

Yes, and no.
This is exactly my colouring but I have stopped with the bayalage. It looks great to start with, or in the winter, but by the end of the summer my hair is even blonder, my skin is even browner, and I look like an Italian porn star. Also you'll have to keep conditioning the ends as sun and swimming will dry your hair out even more.

MakeMineADouble81 · 07/06/2023 11:18

You could try extensions to give you a balayage/ lighter effect without damaging your own hair. I did this and found it worked really well. I can just take them out when I fancy a change!
