BOBBI BROWN SKIN FOUNDATION - being *discontinued*- aargh!

Just that.

I've just had an email saying it's going to be discontinued. Why?

It gets rave reviews. I've used it for years and it's one of the only foundations that I can get the right shade in (Ivory), builds up nicely, and has no perfume.

Has anyone else had this notification?

Deciding whether to stock up or wait for the new replacement product.

They are doing it with a few products. I loved their tinted moisturiser which they’ve stopped doing. A new version was due to be released last Month. No sign yet. So frustrating as it had fabulous reviews.

GCAcademic · 04/06/2023 12:55

Have you tried the long-wear version? It's very good.

DeliciouslyDecadent · 04/06/2023 13:03

I've tried long wear but it was too thick and looked a bit mask-like.

But thanks for the suggestion.

So frustrating.

I used Dior Star for ages and loved that then they re-formulated and it included alcohol / perfume and the shade I did use was much darker. (Still in my make up drawer, not used.)

I switched from bb to Armani luminous silk and I think it's better.

DeliciouslyDecadent · 04/06/2023 13:07

I think one issue with me is that I'm very pale. B Brown discontinued a blusher I used ( pale-ish peach ) so I've moved over to Nars.

They discontinued a lippie (Ballet Pink) as well as several eye shadows (I used Stone in the powder- now use Cement, and Stone in Long Wear stick.)

It always seems as if us pale ones are the ones to have colours discontinued.

Oh, OK. If you want less coverage, their serum foundation is also good, but is more expensive.

Yes. There is still time to order off their website but a lot of shades are showing as out of stock.

Thanks- yes it's hellishly expensive!

I've also got the foundation stick which is okay although I tend to use it for touch-up, as it's quite tricky to apply (IMO) and I found it needs powder to make it last.

I think similar ones in texture are nars light reflecting

TiredandLate · 05/06/2023 22:42

I've switched to the intensive serum, I couldn't get on with the long wear version.

It is more expensive but one bottle lasts me over 6 months, longer than skin foundation.

I've tested it in store and it seems very watery with barely any coverage at all.

Has anyone used Dior Nude?

I was using their Glow for years but they changed the formula a couple of years back and the shades weren't true to the original (I bough my usual 01 shade and it's very orange.) It also has alcohol as a main ingredient and that's very bad and drying for skin.

OP posts:
sourcorn · 07/06/2023 07:45

There was some kind of ingredient shortage so loads of companies are reformulating/pulling products. Also becoming "clean" which is another way of saying their products are going to go out of date quicker so you'll have to keep repurchasing.

DeliciouslyDecadent · 07/06/2023 07:50

Interesting @sourcorn I guess I'll wait and see what BB brings out as the new version. I've managed to order my usual one from them before it goes out of stock.

Nars- hmm- tried it but they don't have the colour range for me. Too yellow or too pink.

I'm a bit fussy! I prefer ones with no perfume as I get a bit of eczema now and then, I don't like long wear as it's too matte for me, and as I'm pale I need a shade right at the palest end of the ranges. It's hard to find one neutral enough, as they tend to be yellowy or pink. B Brown works for me in shades (Ivory usually) .

@DeliciouslyDecadent I’ve only just realised it’s been discontinued! I’ve also been using it for about 15 years 😫. And I’m also very pale. I’m going to a wedding on Friday and don’t have enough skin foundation left, although could smash the bottle I suppose. Did you find a good alternative? Please say yes 😭

I use their powder foundation and find this really good ( also pale with dry skin)
Hopefully that won’t be discontinued as I also like the fact they’re not perfumed

Madamswearsalot · 12/12/2023 19:51

@DearJamie i was a long time user of the bb tinted moisturiser but that disappeared a while ago - I switched to Nars tinted moisturiser in Finland light 1 as I’m also deathly pale. I liked it though definitely a bit more yellow. I’m now using erborian super bb cream in clair and really like it - it’s a fuller coverage so might work for you if you liked the Bobbi brown foundation.

These threads are a godsend - I got the above two suggestions from here!

DearJamie · 12/12/2023 19:53

Thank you so much! I am flying to this wedding so might try the Nars counter at the airport. I’ve used a Nars concealer before and the colour was good for me. So gutted they discontinued the BB one though, it’s so hard to find the right colour when you are so pale! It was getting really expensive though.

Vuurhoutjies · 12/12/2023 20:02

Unfortunately, the new product is okay, but not as good as the old one. I've sort of got used to it now, but the finish just isn't as good.

I love the finish on the NARS but they are too yellow.

I think Mac is the best dupe and actually, one of the Bobbi Brown assistants told me, between the old one being discontinued and the new one being launched that it is the closest.

DearJamie · 12/12/2023 20:12

Thank you @Vuurhoutjies will look at MAC too. I think I bought the long wear one once before and didn’t like it as too sticky so the coverage was quite different.

I need to check which one I have found good but it's not the long wear one I don't think.
