I always thought they were the colour of a Hazlenut shell, hence the name.

@takeitall I thought hazel had more brown tones in it? My daughters are a green/brown/amber colour and I’ve always called them hazel.

I thought hazel just meant a mix of colours. Brown and green mix can be hazel, but so can blue and brown or blue and amber.

Why lucky?!

Just in the sense, really, that they are a rare eye colour.

My DD got them as my DM and DGM have green eyes, as does her Paternal gran
I got dark brown eyes as Dad had dark brown.
Ex DH (DDs Father) has hazel.

One of my DD's has green eyes and my other DD has brown eyes.

I find it bizarre that you'd consider one of them 'lucky' and the other (presumably) 'unlucky'.

Hazel eyes are a pale golden brown. Not a mixture of any two colours.
