What do people wear on a night out now?

Hi,

so I’m mid 30’s and going on a hen do next month but haven’t a clue what to wear for the “big night out” where we’ll be doing a bar crawl ending in a club.

I haven’t been out out in ages and have somewhat lost my style/confidence following quite a bit of weight gain after having my baby.

im a size 18/20, big boobs but short at 5.2

any ideas/suggestions would be amazing? My budget is high street prices.

thanks! Xx

as little as possible based on what i've seen heading out on the town as i'm on my way home to bed

Springbuds38 · 31/05/2023 13:50

Just to add, I’m self conscious of my stomach so something to hide that would be a bonus. I also can’t wear heels due to an old ankle injury so something that would look okay with flats

I dont go out 'like that' anymore as I find it boring but where whatever you like.

I used to go with either a dress or pair of denim shorts and top with kitten heels. Always had quite a casual approach to it and never really been one for dressing up.

I'd go for something you're comfortable in fit and cut wise but maybe go a vibrant colour? A jumpsuit from somewhere like next that does a petite range could work. Couple of options below.

Alternatively the "mum night out" uniform for me and my group of friends tends to be some jeans (mom or straight cut with legs cuffed), trainers (veja or similar), some kind of silky vest top or tshirt and a blazer with sleeves rolled up.

h3ll0o · 31/05/2023 14:30

I’m ordering this to try on, I’d wear it with trainers

Jeans/ pleather jeans with a blazer which hides a tummy

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 31/05/2023 14:48

Where exactly are you going out? I find it varies from city to city. It can be jeans and a nice skimpy top in one town (pub tribute act) or full on glamour in other places.

LimeCheesecake · 31/05/2023 14:53

What’s your budget?

needing petite makes it a bit harder. If it was me, I’d go jumpsuit with nice flats, but at 5’2” you need petite which is tricker to find on a budget.

JosieOhNo · 31/05/2023 15:01

Try ASOS petite, saw some nice jumpsuits on there recently

littleripper · 31/05/2023 15:03

Where? Liverpool or Shoreditch? Makes a big difference

shivawn · 31/05/2023 15:12

Honestly I think you can wear whatever you want once you look like you've made some bit of an effort. I'd wear a dress to a hen party myself but if you're more comfortable in jeans and a nice top or a jumpsuit or whatever then that's fine too.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 31/05/2023 15:19

I tend to go for body con knee length dresses and heels or skinny jeans, black top and a colourful blazer style jacket with heels or flats depending on the crowd

WizardinTraining · 31/05/2023 15:33

Mint Velvet faux leather leggings come in a short length and are really comfy and flattering. They look good with heeled boots or trainers, I'd add a blazer - I'm a similar size/height to you and I've got a nice one that wasn't pricey from H&M, it's got pushed up sleeves so doesnt swamp me. Have fun!

Blondey2023 · 31/05/2023 15:34

Women wear trainers with dresses on nights out now. Personally I think this looks naff and lazy, but equally at least heels are out of fashion now!

WeeOrcadian · 31/05/2023 15:46

Where I live it seems like lycra booty shorts and sliders with socks, teamed with a baggy t-shirt tucked in. Or the tiniest dress possible, which barely covers nipples and arse cheeks.

Fucking hideous

underdramatic · 31/05/2023 16:20

I was out in Shoreditch this weekend and there were loads of hen parties. Each group wore a mix of clothes so bodycon dresses & heels, jeans floaty top, leather jacket, boots, maxi floral dresses & trainers, plus quite a bit of beige or pink baggy suits

Sisisimone · 31/05/2023 16:24

Where are you going OP? And what do you usually feel best in jeans, trousers, dress?

I honestly think anything goes now. I'm in Liverpool which I know has a reputation for full on glam but there is such a diversity here. Just in one bar you could look around and see people dressed alternative/goth/smart dress/jeans etc etc. Noone would bat an eye if you wore jeans and trainers and noone would bat an eye if you wore a dress and heels. So I'd just try and narrow down what you would like to wear then have a good look on somewhere like ASOS for initial ideas

Whi the hell started this trend for sliders and socks 😂

cantstaymadatyou · 31/05/2023 17:11

Really depends on the kind of club you’re going to. Do they have a dress code? Nights out in London for example can mean anything from jeans and a blazer to a teeny dress with heels, although the latter seems rare.

I’d probably ask the other women who are going what they plan to wear.

HappiDaze · 31/05/2023 18:33

What city, what venue ?

Springbuds38 · 31/05/2023 19:13

Sorry should have said, the hen do is in Liverpool.

I’d normally go for a dress but haven’t seen many in a style I like, all seem tiny with cut pit bits or super casual or too old.

No idea on venue but suspect it’ll be a gay bar/club

Asda have some really nice patterned jumpsuits (or plain black) in at the moment. They look quite floaty. I'd wear that with some chunky sandals (Doc Marten sandal style) and a denim or faux leather jacket if you need one.
