Does this piss anyone else off when online shopping '27 people are also looking at this'...'selling fast,100 sold already today' etc.

I feckin hate those messages that come up when you're browsing clothes online telling me how popular an item is. Why are they everywhere all of a sudden?
It doesn't make want to buy the thing, it's actually really off-putting - like the online version of a pushy sales person.

Anyone else hate this or just me?

Yeah I hate it too. Can’t even see the bloody thing for the words over the top of it! And it doesn’t make me want the thing any more - couldn’t give a shiny shit if 373747473 people want it too!

Yes, thank you - I'm not going crazy!
Who decided that customers wanted to be bothered by more pop up shite while we're browsing...grrr.
It also sometimes makes me not want to buy some stuff as if it's too popular surely everyone's going to be wearing it. I just hate feeling pressured to buy stuff.

What's worse is with some websites, if you so much as click on an item, you later get am email saying "Take another look" as they've been tracking what you've been doing on there!

Or if you leave things in your basket to go back to at a later stage, you get "Did you forget something?"

FFS - just piss off!

Although if I'm looking at a link that someone on here has posted, and it says "40 people are looking at this right now", I always smile to myself and wonder how many of the 40 people are also reading the same MN thread Smile

I hate this too! It just makes me impatient and I end up clicking out of their site. I DGAF how many are looking at the item or how many were sold today. Really annoying.

And agree, sometimes the pushy xx people are looking at it makes some weird part of me refuse to buy it as I don’t want ‘them’ to feel I’ve been persuaded!

So annoying! I want to look at the picture or maybe click on the next photo but no I have to wait while the pop up gets in the bloody way!

The only time I found it useful was recently an item I looked had already sold out of other sizes; there were apparently only 7 of my size left.

I went back the next day, and there were only 4 left which prompted me to place an order quickly. I've no idea if they were being honest about it or if it was just a gimmick.

But the "47 other people are looking at this right now!" is annoying

I absolutely hate them. I honestly don't care how many have sold or how many people are looking at the item. They are so annoying, cover up the thing you are trying to look at. A few times I have just left without buying.

Yes, it's annoying, and makes me want to navigate away. It reminds me of the stress I used to feel when a box flashed up in the corner of the screen at work telling me I had 267 new tasks.

It's done deliberately to prompt impulse shopping. It's the same as the endless postage offers on some fast fashion sites eg free postage over £30 until (insert countdown clicker) then when that ends another one is live.

I absolutely hate this. I once got so fed up with John Lewis that I deliberately looked up a really obscure item, and it still said it was "trending". I think their definition of trending must be incredibly generous!

It puts me off. If everyone else wants a thing, I don't!

It's the same with fragrance. If I'm sampling in a shop and the SA tells me it's popular and a bestseller, I tell them, very politely, that it puts me off. I want something a bit different.

When I am looking for something and a message pops up 'John from Brighton bought this at 5.00 pm' and every time I open a page 'Bought by Freda from Finchley' 'Bought by Esmerelda from Norfolk' guaranteed to make me look elsewhere. In fact I have gone to the trouble of contacting the company to tell them so.
