What do you do with your upper lip?

I have started to see a few more dark hairs on my upper lip in my thirties than in my twenties.

Is there anyone who could advise me on how best to reduce, hide or get rid?

Threading is brilliant and cheap if you can find a good practitioner or do it yourself. Pretty eye watering but quick and doesn't irritate the skin. I used to have it done regularly but I can't find anyone where I live now.

Bloody hell! I couldn't do it myself! Bigger superdrugs do it these days so you should be able to find somewhere OP

Nair sensitive cream

StayingZenInTheVipersDen · 26/05/2023 10:58

Dermaplane (aka razor) here too. It's the thing which least irritates my skin and gets all the hairs off.

If I had dark hair and pale skin I'd use a lumea thing but I don't

Readyforspringtime · 26/05/2023 11:01

Experts - do you just use the tinkle razor on the individual dark hair, or do you take off the baby fluff with it too?

woodhill · 26/05/2023 11:12

I used H r c once and my skin reacted to it

Pandorapitstop · 26/05/2023 11:15

Salon wax

Is electrolysis permanent? Everything I’ve read says you need to repeat it every 6months or year and only after a few treatments is it really permanent.

It's been thirty years since I had it done, and none of that hair has come back, so yes - permanent. It does take several treatments. How the beautician explained it to me was, the treatment damages the follicle. If you're lucky it kills it outright with the first treatment, more usually it only weakens it. The hair comes back, you zap it again. It gets weaker with every zap and eventually dies.

IIRC, I started with weekly 15 minutes appointments, dropping to fortnightly, then monthly, then quarterly. Not all hairs were zapped at every appointment. I think it may have taken a year all told.

I've got some new hairs on my chin now, I'll be booking myself in for electrolysis again.

Veet. Upper lip, chin and a wee bit up my nose.

EllaPaella · 26/05/2023 13:51

I just got a no no facial hair remover a couple of days ago, it's great. Gets rid of everything and completely painless.

Wow, that sounds like an expensive and time consuming process. How many treatments do you think you had altogether?

EllaPaella · 26/05/2023 15:23

@Stellawella it's not the actual nono one but the same thing, I got this one. It's great.

Sometimes I curl it with disdain.

Excellent answer

Thanks for the info @WhereYouLeftIt

I used to get mine waxed at the salon, but I always came out in spots about 3 days afterwards, which was a real pain. I use Veet hair removing cream now

I do the whole lip, mainly because without my glasses I can't see how hairy I am . No stubble

Mars27 · 26/05/2023 20:41

I have saved three years worth of Boots points and bought my Lumea with them, best thing I've bought in my life ❤️

I've always been a little monkey, my mum took me to the waxing parlour when I was 11 and before the Lumea it were years and years of shaving and waxing, so much money down the drain. IPL is also good for my dermatitis, so I'm just super happy now

nachotemple · 26/05/2023 20:42

tweezers and one of those handheld magnifying mirrors to get the worst black ones. Sometimes the bendy spring thing for the rest. I also have to do the chin ones once or twice a week! 😬

Guardiansofthegalaxi · 26/05/2023 20:44

Shave weekly using a dermaplane razor. I do my whole face. It’s personal preference but I find my skincare soaks in nicer and my makeup sits much better with no peach fuzz. Definitely does not grow back thicker or darker.

Yes especially on the sides of my face

Witchpleas · 26/05/2023 20:49

I got electrolysis 10 months ago and for various reasons wasn't able to go back for my follow up until recently - none of the darker hairs had grown back on my upper lip to the point it was noticeable to me that one side had been done more. I had a 30 min appt recently and I reckon one more and I'll be done. It is very sore, but second time around I used a numbing cream a few hours before hand and took some pain relief and that made it a lot easier, the same level as an eyebrow wax. I highly recommend. I'm not one to keep up with treatments (hence the 10 month gap!!) so I needed something permanent - as far as I recall it's the only hair removal treatment the FDA will permit to be advertised as permanent.

Craftycorvid · 26/05/2023 21:11

I curl mine in disdain.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 26/05/2023 21:22

Tweezers and a magnifying mirror in a good light. Today it was perfect in the downstairs toilet, bright sunlight coming in. I usually check my lip and chin a couple of times a week. Also the two weird hairs that grow sideways out of my neck.

bigbabycooker · 27/05/2023 06:48

Sorry for not returning yesterday! This has all been really really helpful. I have darkish hair and fair skin, so I am a good candidate for some of the high tech methods, but will start with some of the simpler things recommended and see how I go!

I decided a bit late in life to have laser treatment. Not wholly successful owing to my grey hairs . I didn’t know at time of booking that laser treatment doesn’t work on grey hairs so if going down this route do it sooner rather than later. It has made a difference to the thicker darker hairs. I booked when there was a January offer on price for a course of treatment.
