Whole day London outfit

Inthebathagain · 25/05/2023 08:23

I'm off to London next week.

Cocktails in a swanky bar (no sportswear)

Beyonce concert in the evening

Walking round London during the day.

Not going home in between.

No desire to carry a large bag all day with a change of outfits.

Had it not been no sportswear, I'd have worn smart trainers with a blazer and jeans, as that's my happy place.

Inspiration for what to wear very welcome. Budget is not big.

Leather boots, jeans and blazer?

tinselvestsparklepants · 25/05/2023 08:43

Sleeveless dress, sandals (bar) with trainers in bag for walking and concert. Lipstick and hairbrush. Jacket or cardigan. Enjoy!

3WildOnes · 25/05/2023 08:45

I'd wear a midi dress with white trainers in the day and swap for sandals in the evening.

carolinestowcrat · 25/05/2023 10:23

Why don't you just go to a different bar? Many of the nicer London hotels have swanky bars which will allow sportswear.

ThroughTheMirrorEmpire · 25/05/2023 10:43

I have never been in a London bar that actually stops women from wearing trainers if the rest of their outfit is not a tracksuit… clean trainers with nice jeans and a blazer will be absolutely fine!

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/05/2023 13:02

That's a lot in a day, I'd be knackered! Frankly I'd switch the bar out for something more convenient when there are so many options that will allow trainers. Nothing worse than navigating London in uncomfortable clothes or shoes. I really don't miss living there and commuting in workwear.

If not I'd just stick with trainers, blazer and jeans (or smarter trousers) and switch out for some heels for the bar. Something reasonably light and portable that could be carried in a tote bag.

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 25/05/2023 13:10

I agree, I would switch the bar and be comfortable. Places like the Corinthia have a real mix of attire and the right idea - the Ritz etc it’s a no go but a different experience.

gogohmm · 25/05/2023 13:14

Dress, sandals you can walk in, jacket style of choice (also based on weather).

I have timberland sandals which are really comfortable for sightseeing but pass muster in the evening too

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 25/05/2023 13:15

I live in London and that's a lot.

Short-sleeved jumpsuit, jacket. I think you could get away with smart clean trainers.

Skip the walking and find a good pub!

3WildOnes · 25/05/2023 13:47

I think you might get too hot walking around in jeans all day.

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 25/05/2023 13:54

I agree, I would clarify if “no sportswear “ means trainers or not. If it does I would change venue if possible.

CountryCousin · 25/05/2023 13:57

I’d spend your clothes budget on a Travelodge … Packing all those events into a day with nowhere to rest or change will just be exhausting.

Ginola2345 · 25/05/2023 13:59

Check the forecast before you go. I would def do comfy footwear ideally trainers and wear something cool with possibly a lightweight jacket for evening (and sandals in tote bag).

I think you might be too warm in jeans.

FlounderingFruitcake · 25/05/2023 14:11

A ‘no sportswear’ dress code typically means no tracksuits, football shirts, gym leggings etc. I would expect to see people in smart trainers in a nice cocktail bar and if they’re not allowed I would expect that be specifically specified as no sportswear AND no trainers. I would call the venue and check.

Huh? The OP didn’t say she was 85.

Walking around a city, followed by drinks and a concert is hardly strenuous. I assume she will stop for coffee, lunch, dinner etc. and not be power walking for 8 hours.

Millions of people day-trip it to London. Living here I often leave my flat and go to Central London during the day and stay out till my evening plans.

GeraltsBathtub · 25/05/2023 14:33

I would double check with the venue about trainers too. Most places are fine with nice trainers nowadays.

mewkins · 25/05/2023 14:52

I'd wear a plain black midi dress, birkenstocks and take a jumper in my bag. Weather looks good for next week so I'd walk to a park and sit and people watch for a bit.

Puppylucky · 25/05/2023 15:27

I wouldn't try to carry a tote bag into a big stadium gig these days due to security. Best case scenario is they make you check it into a cloakroom which will be a pain at the end of the night. Worst case scenario is they confiscate it along with your shoes!

cocksstrideintheevening · 25/05/2023 15:44

Trainers will be fine.

I'd wear a jumpsuit or dress and trainers, take a jacket and a small cross body bag. What are the venue restrictions in bags at the minute?

pottytrainingggg · 25/05/2023 15:48

Dress with chunky sandals or boots depending on weather, oversized blazer.

Thank you! This is a quiet London day as far as I'm concerned.

I'm going to clarify with the bar about trainers and go from there. Definitely not taking any changes of clothing or footwear and certainly no tote bags.

I would probably go with a semi casual dress, (black sleeveless a la Uniqlo style) with nice flattish sandals/chunky ones if that's your bag, with a light shirt, knit, blazer or something for if it gets chill. Nice jewellery, big sunglasses, hairbrush and lipstick in bag.

IhearyouClemFandango · 25/05/2023 18:37

I should add we went with my 11 yr old at the weekend, and he 'managed' a whole day and evening of looking around, eating, carrying a bag etc without expiring 😂

GladysHeeler · 25/05/2023 19:26

I would also wear trainers. You will be fine if the rest of you isn't sports-attired.

It's madness to say that going for some cocktails and then going to a concert is too much for one day! Confused

Inthebathagain · 25/05/2023 19:51

I've spoken to the bar. No trainers. No "look like trainers". No sports shoes. Nothing.
