Sandals for Plantar Facilitis

Any ideas? I've only got it in one foot but so painful. I'd love some sandals for the summer, really comfy ones but will need arch support.

Birkenstocks we’re the only thing that I could get away with when PF was at its worst.

I've just done lots of research as going away shortly and can currently only wear asics gel kayanos. Have bought Vionics with a back strap. Less old lady sandals than most recommended. But definitely not cheap.

I suffered for ages but then someone suggested rolling a hard tennis sized ball under my foot, as often as I could manage. Bingo, cured in no time. IHTH.

Merrell sandals are good

another vote for vionics, they are expensive though.

I went to a chiropodist who made me some insoles which are fantastic, I use these for trainers and shoes. I have to get a size up, and cheap ones are better because I rip out the existing insole and put the chiropodist ones in.

I also find fitflops are ok, but not for all day, I have their wellies.

When my podiatrist suggested Vionics a few years ago I bought two pairs of their trainers from TKMaxx, and they have really helped my tendinitis.

I ordered these Vionic sandals from there last week, but they only have small sizes now. It might be worth checking from time to time in case they get more sandals in. I suspect that most of what they call sandals here are really slippers, but for £19.99 they might be worth a try.

You might find other sandals to suit you at TKMaxx, too. The Aria ones I bought from there a few years ago have the same arch support, so it might be worth looking at everything they have in your size. Might Scholl sandals suit?

I also have Plantar Fisciitis in one foot and recently bought Dr Martens Voss sandals which are really comfortable and have arch support

birkenstocks. My husband has plantar faciatias also. For around 10 years now and every now and then it flares. He does not ever go barefoot...not even in house. He has his indoor birks.. his outdoor birks and also has custom orthotics for shoes. He just said YES to the tennis ball. also standing on a stair and stretching up then down with the heel hanging over stair rung

I, too, have my indoor Birkenstocks, my outdoor Birkenstocks, Birkenstock insoles in my gardening clogs, PVA Birkenstocks for pool/beach, and prescription orthotics which I use as much as possible.

I'm just waiting for my favourite Birkenstock sandals to come back into stock: the Taormina.

Tennis ball, stretching, yes. Also importing ankle flexibility and hamstring/Achilles stretches. Also freeze a small bottle of water and use it as a foot roller for the sole of your foot, especially the arch.

How do you increase the flexibility of an ankle? One ankle is fine but the other doesn’t rotate very well

Honestly worth the price. Birkenstocks are very hard and although v supportive, made my feet feel worse.
Oofos are made so there's more arch support while being super comfortable, like your feet are walking on clouds.

Thanks everyone! I have been doing the tennis ball excercises. The worse thing is stepping out if bed first thing in the morning, ouch!!
I'm going to look now at all your suggestions!

I found a small heel with good ankle support was better.

Have Fitflop got anything suitable. I bought a pair of their lace up trainers which were a godsend when I had PF (all gone now) if they had some supportive sandals that you liked they might be just the thing

Oofos are brilliant

There are many online resouces, but I like David Thurin's videos. (I can only dream to ever achieve what he can do!) he is very good alternatives if you are less stretchy or strong.

When my ankles are stiff I find that my calf muscles become very tender to the touch, especially in the inside of my legs. Regularly massaging them helps with releasing the stiffness and improving flexibility.

Oooo cosy! But I think I would swelter in them. Even in winter just my standard Bostons are very warm.

These are the ones I like for summer. Supportive, but not old lady orthopaedic looking.

Revs sandals. They feel weird at first but great once you get used to the sensation

Another vote for vionics. After almost fainting at the price of a pair, I now have 3 pairs. They do appear to come on sale a lot.
Bought Kellyns the other day, half price.

Oofos are fab. Expensive but well worth it. I live and die in mine.
