Really waterproof long coat?

Bearpawk · 07/05/2023 11:31

I'm having a nightmare, please help?
Looking for:
Lightweight
Very long (below knees)
A- line so unfortunately the long 'Rains' model isn't suitable
VERY WATERPROOF (not just showerproof)

Ilse jacobsen looked promising but just too short
Uniqlo blocktech used to do an a-line parka model but not waterproof enough

Any other suggestions ?

For things like this, I look in proper outdoorsy type shops, but they aren't the most beautiful of things! Definitely waterproof though

Bearpawk · 07/05/2023 11:44

Yeah, can't find any very long A- line shapes so I was looking for recommendations that might fit the bill.
I'm not after a short anorak x

Check out Jack Murphy Erin or Malvern coats.
Sorry I can't do links

Chorizopizza · 07/05/2023 11:47

Stutterheim do exactly what you’re looking for (though not especially light as it’s rubberised cotton, but it’s properly waterproof)

YellowFleece · 07/05/2023 11:49

I have an excellent one fitting this description from Lands' End.

CallieQ · 07/05/2023 11:50

I have one Seasalt

CallieQ · 07/05/2023 11:51

TheFlis12345 · 07/05/2023 11:51

Have you actually tried on an Ilse Jacobson? I’m 5”8, mine comes well below my knees and it’s not even the longest style they do.

Puffalicious · 07/05/2023 11:52

Yup same here, Seasalt.

Yes try country outdoor wear (Jack Murphy etc). They do long, a line, waterproof coats x

Yes thank you, I tried one on recently and it's just a bit short - had one similar and got my shins drenched as the water ran off the edge of the fabric and down my shins when walking Confused

Yeah, think I'm gonna have to splash out; they're sooooo £££ and I wonder if the rubber degrades ?

Long dry robe. I have an equidry and it's possibly the best functioning coat I've ever had.
Alternatively use a wash in waterproofer treatment like Nik wax on one you have already

Snoozinandlosin · 07/05/2023 12:11

Rainkiss poncho? I’m 5’6 and it’s long midi on me. It might be a bit too “style” over function for your needs but it keeps me (and my bag) dry.

Thank you, I've had a look but can only see padded ones on lands end. It's a fairly lightweight one I'm after as I layer up underneath x

I second Seasalt. I have the plant hunter which is the most waterproof coat I’ve ever had. Hood is big enough, sleeves are long enough, actually keeps you fully dry. The plant hunter is a bit padded, good for winter but they have light weight ones too.

I've looked at ponchos but I have a bulky (waterproof) backpack I use for work which doesn't work over a poncho (it traps the arm holes!?

The nikwax is a great idea - now sure how on earth it works but I wonder if it would refresh my old block tech one which I love but is no longer waterproof

I've not tried them but I've seen Drizabone highly recommended before

VenusClapTrap · 07/05/2023 13:04

Rainsisters, if you’re looking for something a little more stylish than hiking brands. Long and fitted with an A line skirt. Go up a size if you’re layering underneath though as they’re not particularly roomy on the top half.

Bearpawk · 07/05/2023 13:14

@VenusClapTrap thank you, just had a look, it's not my style but I appreciate the suggestion

I have a long seasalt jacket, have had it a few years now and still mega waterproof.

youveturnedupwelldone · 07/05/2023 13:34

How tall are you? Lots of raincoats are very long on me because I am short.

I'm 5'8. The ilse jacobsen I tried came just below my knee but not far enough.
Stutterheim extra long would be the length and style I'm after but almost £300 🫣
