Ok…it’s the annual school appropriate footwear question!! Requirements are…has to be closed toe (non negotiable)…tan or brown type colour, preferably leather, wedge or block heel. Smart style and can be worn with trousers, skirts and dresses. Tend to wear cropped trouser suits, midi structured dresses or jumpsuit with blazer. I have some espadrille type shoes that are ok but a bit too casual. Budget £150. Anyone seen anything??!! Thanks 😊

Head here. Primary. I don’t police shoes. I ask staff to dress for the job that they do.

@AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough those are lovely flat options but I’m really looking for a heeled option or wedge.
@Cyclingmummy1 I’ve got black loafers for winter so maybe I should consider lighter coloured ones…

in my mind my ideal shoe is brown leather, closed toe kind of straps that make it look more sandal like!! I have this same dilemma every year!!

Out of interest - you buy new shoes every year?

Have a look at El Naturalista, I discovered this brand years ago whilst abroad and they are absolutely beautiful shoes, high quality and supremely comfortable. A quick look and I think some of these might fit the bill, you can also often get them discounted on Amazon.

When you have to stand for 8 - 10 hours a day they are perfect.

I do. I’m a teacher. For many decades. I’ve never sunk so low.

All the "teacher here", "head here" why not read the OPs posts!

And those hotters are awful!

QuickGuide · 06/05/2023 11:23

Even our head wears trainers with her dresses now.

SarBear1980 · 06/05/2023 11:30

All the shoe drama!! 😂 I am happy to follow the two staff dress code rules we have - no spaghetti straps and no trainers/open toes. I have a smart dress style and wouldn’t wear trainers with my existing work dresses/outfits - I happily choose to wear heels. I like my style and like making an effort with my workwear…I do tend to buy a new pair of shoes each year but am not excessive as I carefully curate my wardrobe. I’m going with the Mint Velvet pair from early to the thread. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I saw Sarah Jessica Parker wearing maryjane clogs like these with rolled up boyfiend jeans and a slouchy top and loved them. They come in flats as well as heeled and lots of colours.

I had no idea that UK schools had rules about teacher's sandals. Still my children went to a rather unusual school with no uniform and no dress code. Pupils could wear a purple Mohawk if they wanted or grow a beard. At least there were never any quibbles over shoes.

Jesus Christ. In Scotland and I wear sandals when it's warm and converse when it's chilly. I didn't realise teachers' dress code down south was as restrictive as the kids'.

I don’t think it’s place based. I grew up in Scotland and never saw any of my teachers wearing sandals or trainers. They all wore smart shoes and professional/formal type clothing.

Could mule or sling back type loafers work? I saw some nice ones in Schuh quite recently but can’t remember the brands

This is not AIBU. What’s on earth has this got to do with the question posed by the OP?

Cyclingmummy1 · 06/05/2023 20:07

@Hellno45 @AbbyGal thanks. I find hotter shoes quite wide.

jay55 · 06/05/2023 20:51

Try lk bennett sale. My sister was a headteacher and got most of her shoes from them.

NCTDN · 06/05/2023 21:46

Can anyone post that mint velvet link again add I can't find it on my phone? Thanks

I love my ballet pumps from FitFlop. They're really supportive which I was surprised at.

I’m a Ta and need closed toe sandals . No trainers allowed and year 1 s tread on your toes all the time. Can’t find anything in my much reduced budget .

I always wear pumps or trainers (not filthy ones but still!).
There's no way I could be on lunchtime duty breaking up fights in any kind of sandal or heel nor would I be able to run after the kids climbing the fences to escape the school grounds.
I did watch the head try to do this once in her heels and tight skirt - sod that! 😅

NCTDN · 06/05/2023 21:49

Thank you!

Wotwotwotwotwot · 06/05/2023 21:49

That was for @NCTDN

NCTDN · 06/05/2023 21:50

They're lovely
