Ok…it’s the annual school appropriate footwear question!! Requirements are…has to be closed toe (non negotiable)…tan or brown type colour, preferably leather, wedge or block heel. Smart style and can be worn with trousers, skirts and dresses. Tend to wear cropped trouser suits, midi structured dresses or jumpsuit with blazer. I have some espadrille type shoes that are ok but a bit too casual. Budget £150. Anyone seen anything??!! Thanks 😊

it does not have to be wedge or block heel. That is an illegal demand

It’s the OP’s request, not an illegal demand.

I think the only clothing policy in this case is the closed toe, not the colour or heel type, they are the OPs preference.

My school also has a closed toe/no trainer policy and the Head will pick anyone up on either. Except it's ok for her, she can wear her open toe sandals and short skirts because, well, she's the Head and can do what she likes. Apparently.

MerylSqueak · 06/05/2023 08:08

@WillowtreeHouse very similar in our school. I have ankle problems and need to wear something that is very similar to trainers. I stuck to the footwear policy strictly until I saw SLT in lace up pumps. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I would buy these. They are great for standing all day and only £44 with the voucher code.

@Hellno45 where are these from please? I'd like them in a brighter colour.

We wouldn't be able to wear pumps or trainers. I got the same dilemma but probably a third of the budget and size o feet- virtually impossible

I have a bad hip at the moment. If I was told I was unable to wear trainers, I would reply 'do you want me in work, in front of the learners, or off sick until my hip improves?'
My ability to teach doesn't rely on my footwear and no one should be dictated to, unless on Health and Safety grounds.

SarBear1980 · 06/05/2023 08:35

Thanks for all the ideas! Yes - just to clarify closed toe is the only school rule…it’s pretty standard in every secondary school I’ve worked in…no trainers, pumps. The others are my own rules at match my wardrobe…I’m very clean lines and neutral!! I’m ok with heels…I guess some aren’t but I easily do 10k steps in stilettos!! 🤣

I’m a Ta and need closed toe sandals . No trainers allowed and year 1 s tread on your toes all the time. Can’t find anything in my much reduced budget .

MeetMyCat · 06/05/2023 08:39

Boots and sandals seem relatively straight forward, but so many of us struggle with shoes (it never seems as straight forward as it should!)

They are from Hotter - reduced to £55 atm

Theos · 06/05/2023 09:10

Teacher here, too, I tell him to fuck off the closed toe. I’m too old for this shit

53yo teacher here, never in a million years would you catch me wearing those!

rileynexttime · 06/05/2023 09:23

@toomanybooksnotenoughtime wow I love those Fly ones .And IME ( cube shaped feet) fly are so comfy .

Theos · 06/05/2023 09:25

just sign a piece of paper saying my toes are my business and not your liability and get on with it

SiobahnRoy · 06/05/2023 09:34

La redoute is good for wedge sandals OP

ArtistAndMusician · 06/05/2023 09:46

For summer footwear, I live in leather trainers and Bensimon plimsolls. Gabor have some lovely summery pumps too and they're so comfortable.

IttyBittyTittyCommittee · 06/05/2023 09:58

@Theos

🤣🤣🤣 haven’t heard the pasty insult for shoes for years!!

You must work in a primary, because in some of the schools I've worked in, steel toecap boots have been the only thing between me and an A&E visit. 😁

When you have to stand for 8 - 10 hours a day they are perfect.
