Hooded eyes and Botox..

Embelline · 04/05/2023 19:43

I had Botox done 8 days ago and had two areas done - forehead and 11s. Saw results quite quickly - she said I might as I'm a real frowner so as soon as I couldn't actually frown she expected to see a noticeable difference and I had a much smoother forehead within three days.
Now, I'm really happy with my forehead.

However, I've always had wonky brows one moved higher than the other and one was way more arched - so she put a little extra in one side to balance that and account for that (not too much and I had about 70% of the full dose as my lines were heavy, so needed to say an effect, but it was my first time so she didn't want to go full throttle). I also have hooded eyes and crinkly eyelids and she did warn me that having this already means you're more likely to see a bit of drooping.
I have unfortunately, I feel like my eyes look a lot smaller, and my lids are now crinkly in an odd, noticeable way a lot of the time.
My eyebrows are still not quite the same and I have movement in one and none in the other (the one without is the side she put more in). This doesn't bother me too much as it actually makes it more natural looking on me, as my brows were like this before, they're just lower now.
My concern is that she said you usually see results after 2 weeks, and if the hooded eyes thing gets even more pronounced, my eyes will look like they are barely open!
If I've seen results already is it likely that it's just settled a bit quickly, so the drooping won't get worse?

Has anyone had drooping/more hooding before initially and has it worn off?

I did message her afterwards and sent pics and she said it would likely wear off in a few weeks, and she could rectify the eyebrows if I wanted them to be symmetrical but I think I'll leave that.

I was just wondering anecdotally what others had experienced? It doesn't seem to be noticeable to anyone but me btw!

And I did my research, it was done by a doctor at an aesthetic clinic where I know the owner and know how seriously she vets and researches anyone she uses - the lady has been doing it for ten years and I had two consultations first because I was nervous, and made well aware of the likelihood of drooping so it's not a shock, I'm just a bit gutted as I was still hoping to avoid it!

Thank you :)

If it's been 8 days then most of the effect will have taken place already, at least in my experience.

I have hooded eyes too and I get a very small forehead dose for that reason, like 25% of the usual dose at most (4 units). I also like to be able to move my eyebrows so that suits me fine although I probably need to top it up more often that people who get a large dose.

shivawn · 04/05/2023 19:50

Just to add that in the past when I got too much and experienced drooping, the worst of it wore off within 4 weeks of being injected.

catchthedog · 04/05/2023 19:52

hmm I have hooded eyes but she usually puts extra somewhere above my eyebrows which lifts them more and actually reduces the hood.
Are you going back for your topup (always go for this if u can)? she should be able to identify the area that needs more of the lift.

Embelline · 04/05/2023 19:53

Thank you that's really helpful. Her plan for me was to have less and less each time if the first dose was effective (obviously if it wasn't, as my lines were deep, she would give me more but she wasn't convinced I'd see a result otherwise, I had a permanent, deep scowl even when relaxed), as I'm not keen to do it long term forever.

So I'm hoping the fact that it's actually been really effective will mean that I might be able to have less next time, as I'll be training myself out of frowning all the time if that makes sense?

My eyelids are awful, they've been crepey and wrinkly for ages and there's not much you can do about that - I'm not even 40 yet so I think I might have to grin and bear that one.

OP posts:
Embelline · 04/05/2023 19:54

@catchthedog yes I'm going back next week but a bit wary of having any more injected. I also read if you haven't got movement in the brow, they can't 'lift' it until it wears off, so I think that might have to be the next time I go.

@shivawn when you had drooping, did you get weird wrinkling of your eyelids?

SeekingBalance · 04/05/2023 20:14

I'm due to have my first dose of botox and didn't even give my eyelids a thought. Could you post a picture of what your talking about? I'd like to know from the other posters experiences if it did make a noticeable difference.

Embelline · 04/05/2023 20:19

I would, but it would be outing as I have friends on here! I'll try to PM you one.

Ah ok, no worries! I'm frantically googling and putting myself off.

Embelline · 04/05/2023 20:41

Honestly, it's really not that bad. If they said can't be fixed this is your face now, it would be fine. It's just because I've been studying my face obsessively I notice haha.
Maybe mention it if you're worried and have hooded eyes, or go lighter the first time so you can see what the results are like before getting more?

Il definitely talk it through before my appointment!

Whatthediddlyfeck · 04/05/2023 21:07

I have hooded lids, had Botox once and never again! It made them droop to the point they were actually in my line of vision! This was no fly by night dodgy practitioner either- a very highly qualified person, but never again!

MrMarkham · 04/05/2023 21:11

I started a thread a few months ago under a different user name about exactly this. I hated it, really regretted having it done. It's been three months and it's better in that my eyelid isn't drooping anymore but my brows still look a bit wonky. Eyelid did improve a lot around 5/6 weeks. I'm not going to back though, learnt my lesson not to mess with my face! I also went to a recommended doctor and it was expensive.

Ah, same!!

LunaNorth · 04/05/2023 21:13

Strangely enough, the main reason I have Botox is to sort my droopy eyelid out!

BBNoM · 04/05/2023 21:44

I've heavy lids and Botox gives me a lift, but there's a very specific place they inject in order to give that effect. If they object above the end of the brow you'll get droopy lids. Sounds like the dr/dentist is off here.

Embelline · 04/05/2023 21:49

I think she had to do it above the end of the brow as I had some odd lines at the end of each brow kind of diagonal that I wanted sorting out. But I’ll mention it at my review and go from there!

OP posts:
Fifiellz · 04/05/2023 22:01

Yeah it sorted my head lines out brilliantly but my eyes went really elongated with really heavy lids. I just didn't have anywhere to put eyeshadow and really noticed the difference wheh trying to apply eye makeup. My eyelashes were almost pointing downwards.

Im lettting it wear off and probably won't have it again. All the photos I've looked at since, I look older than before, purely because my eyes are all piggy now.

I also have a dent in my forehead that wasn't there before.

StarChaserDouble · 04/05/2023 22:03

I have naturally high/very arched eyebrows AND heavy lids so I have had this problem.
I Feel like the choice is between:

  1. my eyebrows getting even higher and more arched and looking permanently surprised
  2. my eyelids falling down making my eyes look tiny and as though I’m experiencing hay fever

My practitioner told me I just probably not have Botox and grow a fringe instead. Or just have Botox for the 11s

Embelline · 04/05/2023 23:31

@StarChaserDouble this is me! I agree sometimes with this type of eye shape and lid there isn’t a magic fix that will do everything so you’re kind of sacrificing one for the other. I do love my smoother forehead though. The doctor thinks it will wear off a bit (eyes) in the next 3-4 weeks so I’ll see what I think then. I’m wondering if a much lighter dose next time would be a happy medium.

@Fifiellz piggy is quite a good way to describe it and yes about the eyelashes! It feels like my eyelashes look shorter somehow as well and yet hit the brow above immediately and smear mascara everywhere.

im kind of hoping the effect will wear off my eyes and I’ll have been trained out of frowning a bit so when it wears off I’ll have the best of both worlds - unlikely I know!

OP posts:
Embelline · 04/05/2023 23:32

@Fifiellz when did you have it done? Have you seen it start to wear off yet? I’m curious about what mine will look like when it starts wearing off, whether it will just go back how it was before. I am hoping it does actually wear off a bit and my eyes go back to normal a bit more, so I can put mascara on easily and with effect again!

OP posts:
daisymoonlight · 05/05/2023 06:32

I have hooded eyes and have been having botox all around my eyes regularly for 10 years or so and this has never once happened to me- I really think its about the skill of the injector. It definitely isnt "inevitable"

Fifiellz · 05/05/2023 07:10

This is my second round and it happened both times, it doesn't really wear off until the botox does on me unfortunately - so about 3-4 months

Embelline · 05/05/2023 08:00

Interestingly I’ve got up today and my eyes look a lot better which I wasn’t expecting. My elevens have totally smoothed out now as well so I don’t know if it’s related.

I'm glad it's a lot better for you. Botox can be a bit of a rollercoaster for the first 2 weeks.
