Critique my morning make up routine - and tell me yours!

I'm 45 - wear make up every day but I'm a bit shit at it. I definitely want to start using a better moisturiser.

Just has my eyebrows microbladed so don't need to draw them on anymore!!

At home:
-Cerave face wash
-Cerave moisturiser

In the car:
-No7 primer (need a new one if there's a better suggestion)
-Dior foundation (new to this- it's a bit posh. Recently bought a make up sponge so dab it on with a brush then bash it with the sponge blender)
-No7 bronzer
-No7 blusher
-No7 mascara
-Clinique black honey lippy

I never bother reapplying at work. I always look the same - work / out for drinks 🙈

What's your routine?

have a quick wash
apply Rimmel lasting face powder
draw my eyebrows back on (weird shape due to over plucking as a teen)
nyx bronze eyeliner.

erm that’s it for a work day. I work with kids so I don’t wear much make up. If I’m going out out I’ll add mascara and maybe lipstick.

at night I use micellar water, neutrogena moisturiser and Body Shop drops of youth.

SequinDiscoBiscuits · 03/05/2023 09:06

@justawee it's this one https://www.superdrug.com/make-up/eye-makeup/mascara/rimmel-lash-accelerator-endless-mascara-black-1/p/602750#BVRRContainer

At first it's a bit thin so I usually have 2 on the go- when one starts to get too dry I buy a new one and use both until the new one gets to the right stage.

Are people listing their going out make up or their day-to-day make up?!

Foundation, eyeshadow, highlighter… every day??

I must look like shit without realising lol, with my eyebrow pencil and tinted lip balm, if that 😬

Not sure if this was aimed at me (probably not? Mine is fairly simple imo).. but it is my everyday makeup routine, yes.

My super stressed routine is:

Sunscreen
Mascara
Brows (just clear gel, if I still have time...)

if I have a few more seconds I'll dab on some concealer, if there's something that really needs it (pre-period spots. I don't bother concealing my racoon eyes in the super stressed routine)

Lipstick or just tinted lip balm (might just apply some balm on the train...)

I always have some products in my work bag, so I will touch this up during the day (which I will do anyway with my lips/lipstick).

If I am really short on time I'll simply wash my face with water and apply sunscreen.

But I can do the above routine on the train or when I get in at work. Takes about 3 minutes (max) I'd say.

It wasn’t aimed at your specifically, just a general question!

I was under the impression that heavy make up daily is not good for the skin, and that one needs to let skin ‘breathe’, whatever that means. Plus I had no idea so many women wore full make up daily - this thread had been quite the eye opener! ☺️

Didn't meant me specifically, more like whether I was included in the ones with elaborate routines. All good.☺️

I've heard that as well... I personally don't wear foundation daily (that's not usually part of my everyday routine. Unless my face does something I don't want it to...😅).

I do feel like my skin gets a little worse after a week of foundation, powder etc (for example when I have certain consecutive work events). But that might just be imagination or related to other factors🤔

Double cleansing is however something I swear by.

doadeer · 03/05/2023 10:28

Skin doesn't breathe. If you remove make up and wash your face properly that's all that matters. You should massage cleaning balm in for a minute before emulsifying.

lunaloveroo · 03/05/2023 10:37

I'm 40 and mine is similar to yours. Skincare find morning and night

Cerave foaming cleansing wash
No.7 future renew serum
No.7 vitamin c serum
Cerave moisturiser
Cerave under eye cream

On days that I'm not wearing makeup I'll use Alumier tinted moisturiser (spf 50). Otherwise my foundations usually contain spf or I'll use an spf over make up spray.

Maybelline primer
Il makiage foundation and concealer
Eyeshadow
Wonderbrow
VB kajal liner
Skyscraper mascara
Wonderbrow bronzer
Mac highlighter
Mac setting spray

lunaloveroo · 03/05/2023 10:40

I've noticed there's a lot of Cerave products being used. My dc asked me to buy the moisturiser a few months back for her and I really liked it. I didn't know it was such a popular brand.

The breathing is just an euphemism for clogged pores, isn't it?

I personally really dislike most oil based cleansers. But double cleansing is soo great imo/really works for me.

chatw0o0 · 03/05/2023 11:43

My routine:

Very light cleanse
Cerave moisturiser with a dab of richer moisturiser mixed in.
Mac extended play mascara
Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Eye Base
Bobbi Brown Colour Corrector (under eyes)
Rimmel concealer (under eyes)
Sometimes add a neutral eyeshadow or just a bit of the concealer to take away any redness and maybe some brown eyeliner.
Whatever lip balm of the day.

Seems quite unhygienic to do make up in the car

Why, it's not dirty? I used to do mine on the bus on the way to work along with loads of other people who do the same!

FasterthanBolt · 03/05/2023 12:49

I use the Aldi multi intensive serum and the caviar day cream with SPF. On a work day I wear Dr.Jart colour correcting cream in place of foundation, Rimmel blusher and a lip tint. I've just started to have my eyelashes tinted in place of mascara which is working well!

motleymop · 03/05/2023 22:46

Do people really think it's OK to do make up in the car? I hope not as the driver.

Workyticket · 04/05/2023 07:40

Sorry! I created a thread and then got logged out 🙈

Just to be clear - I'm not a driver! Me and dh work in the same area. He drives, I put my face on!

I'm going to sit with a coffee and read through this carefully - and u might get a bit spendy in Boots before work!

Neekoh · 04/05/2023 09:44

@Workyticket I hope it's okay to crash your thread with a question? It could possibly benefit you too...

Does anyone have recommendations for a really good SPF/moisturiser that doesn't sit on the skin in that nasty white film? I'd rather not pay too much, but let's say up to mid-range in price.

TIA Flowers

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/05/2023 09:48

If nothing else, get the SPF 50, already mentioned. Your face will thank you later.

Hiddenmyname · 04/05/2023 10:01

CT Miracle Cream
SPF
Bobbi Brown Vitamin Primer
Armani Lumous foundation, very minimal.
CT Flawless Filter on forehead, jawline.
Collection concealer, best one I've found!
Benefit Bad Gal Mascara
Benefit Eyebrow pencil if my dye is faded.
Beenfit Eyebrow Gel or this awesome clear gel from Tik Tok, can't remember the brand.
CT Sex on Fire Blush or Nars Orgasm X
A little of a Morphe cream blush to highlight
Clear gloss, red balm/lipstick or Mac Velvet Teddy depending on Mood.
Iconic London Glow Spray

If I have freshly done Botox I used some matt powder on my foreheard as I like shine but sometimes it's a bit much!!

I do all my skincare at night - retinol etc,

Anyone know of a facial spf that doesn’t sting your eyes? I touch my face and rub my eyes way too much and as a consequence any moisturiser or even suntan lotion stings

Try Biore Watery Essence, I’ve never had issues with this spreading to eyes or stinging.

FancyFanny · 04/05/2023 17:16

My morning skincare routine is:

In shower-
Wash all over with shower gel, wash and condition hair.
Mild face wash (any brand will do- currently a Clarins one but prefer the Fresh Soy cleanser.
Body lotion on arms and legs and chest-

Then-
Fresh kombucha essence,
Medik-ate vitamin c serum,
Drunk elephant Protini moisturiser,
Clinique All about eyes rich,
Paulas choice super light SPF30,

Makeup is:

Foundation- favourite is Nars sheer glow,
Concealer- usually Lancôme,
Setting Powder- currently Laura mercier,
Bronzer- Hourglass,
Blush- Jouer,
Line outer portion of eyes with mid brown eyeshadow smudged on with small brush,
Dior lash Primer,
Mascara- currently The Cloud Mascara,
Eyebrows- Anastasia Dip brow applied with Wayne Goss brush.

Blow dry hair with Tigi Small Talk thickening cream Queen for a Day root spray.

Takes me about 45-50 minutes from getting in shower to leaving home.

I use a mineral one- Paulas choice super-light, which doesn't sting and I have very sensitive eyes.

motleymop · 04/05/2023 22:35

Ah OK- sorry about the assumption!

Dinopawus · 04/05/2023 22:54

Interesting thread! I'm 54 and in a rut, plus I have an event coming up so spend this afternoon walking around boots and John Lewis and came away as clueless as ever.

I cleanse and moisturise at night and apply retinol alternate nights (recently bought from the ordinary and prefer to No 7).

Mornings - shower & moisturise + hyaluronic acid ; dress, apply primer, make lunch, finish make up.

No 7 foundation, no 7 cream blusher, any old eyebrow pencil, liquid eyeliner, Clinique mascara on top lashes, max factor on lower ones. Clinique lasts better but max factor is less smudgy. Lipstick to suit my mood.

Wondering if doublewear is worth the money and what brands of cream eye shadow & cream contouring products people use?

Cheesenpickleontoast · 05/05/2023 00:57

Oil of Olay with SPF15. Concealer to disguise sunspots on cheek thanks to too much time spent driving. Dark brown eyeliner - smudged. Dark brown mascara. Most expensive lipstick I can afford as it lasts till lunchtime and beyond.
