Have appt booked but very nervous...any tips what to ask for/what to expect?

OP posts:
Rachaelrachael · 02/05/2023 13:51

I recently had it done for the first time. I'm scared of needles so was nervous, but it was absolutely fine and I love the result!
The only thing that surprised me is that I got a headache and some sinus pressure for the rest of the day, I'm not sure how common this is though. But by day 2 I felt normal again. I'll definitely be keeping it up!

daffodilandtulip · 02/05/2023 13:52

Filler marks and bruises more - no more painful, just in terms of people being able to notice.

daffodilandtulip · 02/05/2023 13:52

Sorry that was to @Farmageddon not OP.

Freshair1 · 02/05/2023 13:58

Do you guys intend to get botox for the rest of your lives? I mean, topping up 2 a year maybe for how long? Eventually you age? Am dithering but do wonder at what point we accept the inevitable?

TigerDroveAgain · 02/05/2023 14:08

This is a very timely thread - I'm having my top lip done this afternoon and nearly chickened out! I'm going to a doctor, and the clinic is v reputable so fingers crossed and farewell smokers' line (no I don't smoke, nor drink through straws!)

AlwaysGinPlease · 02/05/2023 14:10

Don't go in wearing make up and don't apply it for the advised time afterwards. Google if you wonder why. Don't expect results for about two weeks.

Do follow their advice. I have it twice a year, I have had for many years and it's one of the best things I ever chose to do. Make sure you go to someone reputable! I see a (real) Doctor for mine and I would never trust just anyone.

Silky12 · 02/05/2023 14:21

You shouldn’t have your head lower than your body for about 24 hours afterwards to it’s a really good excuse to not empty the dishwasher! You also need to avoid hot showers straight afterwards so do things like wash your hair beforehand.

AssertiveGertrude · 01/05/2023 20:55

I would love to get it done but I worry would it make my eyelids droopy and be obvious (one lady I work with has a really stark shiny forehead)

I would love a subtle - barely noticeable look but don’t know how to source the right professional

@AssertiveGertrude i get it done and just get 2 areas, never got forehead done so looks v natural, if you have a big forehead with no fringe i think it always looks noticeable i have small forehead and have side fringe so botox smoothens the area above my eyes anyway..

Yes I intend to get it as long as I can, in the same way I intend to keep on exercising, brushing my hair and getting manicures! The longer you have it the longer it lasts though, as it softens the lines permanently due to less activity. I only need it once a year now.

Not sure. The face needs to match if you see what I mean. I stopped for a year last year (I’m 46) as I felt my lower face was getting a bit saggy and didn’t match a reasonably smooth forehead! So diverted some funds to that (did Sofwave).

I think Botox looks best on younger people conversely. Hence why I have a very light dose only twice a year if that just to take the edge off the lines. So there are still some lines on my forehead and round my eyes just not as many.

At some point I may stop and have filler or a facelift. Because once you get to 50+ there are loads more signs of ageing than a few lines on the forehead. Think sagging, jowls, sun damage. Botox can only do so much and only targets one area. Or you give up - that’s obviously an option!

QueefQueen80s · 01/05/2023 21:20

Find a doctor/dentist rather than a beautician.
Why would it make eyelids droopy? It pulls them up

It doesn't pull them up at all. Not if it's done well. I cannot stand that look and have never, in 20 years of having BOTOX, had an eyebrow lift from doing it.

Toottooot · 02/05/2023 15:34

Mine bruises like fuck after having it done - so much so I was glad my husband was working away last time as I looked like I’d been punched in the eye.

Kvetching · 02/05/2023 15:35

Where I go there is a chat first, then a lot of frowning/raising eyebrows/smiling to assess the way your face moves. Then photos. Then marking with some sort of marker. Then disinfecting. Finally the injections, which is the quickest bit.

You’ll be reassessed in 2 weeks for any tweaks.

mine kicks in within about 3 days, which is very frustrating if it doesn’t look quite right and they refuse to see you before 2 weeks has passed.

QueefQueen80s · 02/05/2023 15:49

@Ohfgsjon That's good to know that it's not meant to do that if done well. I'm having my first soon and don't want to look permanently surprised!

NotLovingWFH · 02/05/2023 16:28

If you’re not sure how much you need start with baby botox. It’s a smaller dose so softer and I have been really pleased with the results. It’s very natural and no one would imagine I had Botox I just look well rested and healthier than I did.

Freshair1 · 02/05/2023 16:33

Good feedback. I'm 37 this year and have full on crows feet when I smile even a little. I hate how I look. I look like I'm permanent pissed off. But equally, it sounds terrifying to have done and also expensive. But equally, I'm not ready for hoe old and miserable I look.

It's honestly not terrifying. It's incredibly straightforward and works brilliantly on the forehead. Trickier on crows feet. The lines can end up migrating underneath the eyes and look worse and you can get bunny lines on your nose too.

Sorry that was to @Farmageddon not OP.

Thanks, I just got back from getting it done in one area, between my eyebrows. It was absolutely fine, just 3 tiny pricks and over in a few minutes.
She did wipe the area with an alcohol wipe, and I can't put make up on it for a few hours, but honestly it doesn't even look like there is anything there.

The woman I went to trained as a dentist, I believe they have to study the muscles of the face really well - I wouldn't trust a hairdresser or similar tbh.

daffodilandtulip · 02/05/2023 17:32

@Farmageddon totally agree! I go to a registered nurse. It's scary how little training people can have to stick things in your face!

Thanks for replying. Your post is now making me think twice. So hard to know what to do.

I just got profhilo done, only got the first lot so cant see any difference, apparently it shows after the second lot, so ill come back and let you know, ill either look stunning or look like a fool for parting with 600 euro......

Judydoes2 · 01/05/2023 18:02

What everyone else said! But I do have them put local anaesthetic on-I go to students (It's a lot cheaper!) and they can be a bit clumsy. Probably wouldn't do anaesthetic if I went to someone qualified with a lot of experience. It's magical-I am always much more confident once I've had it done.

Hi, can I ask how you find students to book with? Thanks!

You won't see any difference after 2nd lot either. It's really painful AND a complete waste of time and money.

I'd google 'botox models ' or 'botox courses' and find a reputable training centre near you? Where roughly are you, I might know one :) ?

Smallfry79 · 02/05/2023 19:29

to see how op gets on.

Im turning into a bit of a hypocrite as I am really against the pressure to look perfect and young and alter ourselves to conform. I think as more people get work done, especially those that deny it or keep secret the more pressure it puts on others as they will be the only ones left with wrinkles etc. I mean why cant we be good enough as we are?
BUT now the 11 lines between my eyebrows are such deep furrows and there always not just when I frown that I really want to erase them. I am 43 and have no problem with a few crows feet or forehead lines but these furrows run deep and I cant unsee them. I actually really dislike the full on shiny protruding forehead look but all i read says only soln for 11s is botox.
Do I swallow my pride, admit Im a hypocrite and try it?
Has anyone else had it done just for 11s?
I know everyone says theirs is very subtle and no one notices but in reality there are so many in real life and on TV walking around with awful looking forheads and presumably they think they are lovely and natural as well?
Im really considering it but need reassurance that it will a. help and b. I wont look awful. Im not afraid of the procedure, just the results.
If I did do it I wouldn't hide it, I would let others know its not natural look or aging, and they could at least then compare on a fair footing if you know what I mean 😂.
