Tummy tuck

Does anyone have experience of a tummy tuck? What realistically can I expect. I'm in my 50s. Should have thought about this years ago. Menopausal fat distribution has made me think about it more. I'm not excessively overweight. Carrying a bit of a menopausal belly but surgeon said I'm in the lower end of what he sees weight wise (I'm not low in weight, just on the lower end of people who go to seek a TT). I have a roll of fat under my boobs. With a TT remove this?
Will I have a flat stomach or just a smaller one than the one I have now?
I know a big slice is removed but is fat cut away from the remaining flesh that is stretched over?

I am similar to you. I would like some lipo /tuck.

pfftt · 25/04/2023 23:31

I've looked at how it is performed. I want to know how the layer of fat above the belly button is reduced before stretching it down and sewed down.

I had one about 20 years ago and at the time it was OK. What i didn't realise though was that they don't do lipo or make any attempt to remove the fat underneath so basically now that I have put some weight on again - it looks like a donut with my navel in the middle. Mine was slightly complicated as we were also trying to work around an existing scar. Have a good talk with whoever you are thinking of using. I've since had an emergency hysterectomy so stomach is totally fucked now.

MsDastardley · 26/04/2023 03:30

I’ve recently had one. I’m 60. Best thing I’ve done, wish I’d done it years ago. I didn’t have lipo, but my abdomen is completely flat. I wasn’t far off target weight, but had an overhang since I had surgery many years ago.

The UK Tummy Tuck Facebook group is useful. I would recommend having surgery in UK if you can. I have been lucky and had an uncomplicated recovery, but after reading about other peoples experiences on the group, minor complications are pretty usual. I think it’s important to go somewhere that you can easily travel to should you need follow up treatment.

Weatherwax13 · 26/04/2023 04:00

Mine was good. Could literally see that my muscles met in the middle again. Although I had a hysterectomy later which spoilt things a bit so idk what it would've looked like by now had that nor happened.
I still have a few stretch marks because they couldn't remove my whole skin! They took 5kg as it was (1kg for each baby!) But my skin is smooth and still quite taut. I've lost that squidgy softness of post baby belly.
I had a small amount of liposuction on - idk what to call it - sides of my waist? And I recommend that. I do still have a patch of numbness on my lower abdomen years later but it's not a problem for me. Just mentioning it, as very rarely people can get troublesome nerve damage.
Also the scar is huge. Hip to hip. But I can't believe how well it's faded. You should be aware that it's a bit like a c section scar (so DD has told me) in that it usually feels fine, but sometimes it will twinge a bit or the wrong height knickers can make you suddenly feel very sore.
Lastly, recovery only took a few weeks but for me, the first fortnight was brutal.
I'm just including those details for an accurate picture. Not trying to put you off, just an honest review:)
For me, it was worth it and I don't regret it.

pfftt · 26/04/2023 07:44

@Weatherwax13 I know what you are referring to with 'sides of the waist'. I would have that also.

I've had a c-section many years ago. The surgeon would go over the scar and as you say, it would be longer. My c-section scar is barely visible.

I hate the idea if being incapacitated for weeks but I guess that's the price

I had one but just because of excess skin from a twin pregnancy. I was still lean/muscular. my understanding is that liposuction is performed as well as the TT for the fat removal.

BuntyCollocks · 26/04/2023 08:01

I’m 12 days post op from mine - fleur de lis extended scar. Delighted so far, had my first at home tape change yesterday and my scars are extremely fine and will heal to nothing. The sleeping upright is shit, but only another 16 days to go 🫠
a good surgeon will recommend surgery based on your desired results. I lost a LOT of weight and had two hanging cords of skin when bent over as well as post weight loss and post c section pouch, so was recommended the FDL to scoop everything in. I am very swollen but everything is so tight now.

I went to Nordesthetics in Lithuania and I cannot recommend more. My surgeon was Mantas Kievisas. He is genuinely an artist. You check in weekly with pictures (or sooner if issues) so they can assess your healing and make recommendations.

BuntyCollocks · 26/04/2023 08:02

Also, I was originally recommended waist lipo as well, but had lost further weight by my surgery date, so wasn’t required. They don’t automatically do lipo, it is case by case. The bruising with lipo is horrific.

Lol thanks 😊 my boobs as you can see were starting to melt down my body.

I had lost 8 stone and felt great, but my body was looking crap, I had to do something.

caringcarer · 26/04/2023 08:26

I've been on my diet for 1 month. I have a lot.of weight to lose but lost 7.4kg. When I've lost the weight I need to lose I'm having a tummy tuck as a reward for losing the weight. I'll wait 6 months to see if skin shrinks back but then I'm going for it.

Nannyfannybanny · 26/04/2023 08:36

Had one 16 years ago. Not overweight, multiple abdominal surgery left me with overhang, lots of scars. Tried for 5 years hard graft workouts to get it flatter. Went to Cyprus after several meetings with surgeon in Harley Street. I found it a lot less painful than the CS, followed post op procedure to the letter, but ended up with a seroma(outer tissue doesn't adhere to inner, had to have a revision) I had to go up to London monthly to have site drainage, then I went to a local plastic surgeon, and he did the revision.Do your research VERY carefully. No problems in 16 years,I do have to be careful cleaning the "new' naval,it looks the same on the outside, but actually goes in and up,so can get thrush or smelly. I now unfortunately have a cystocele, which gives a lump in my mid lower abdomen.

superplumb · 26/04/2023 10:00

I'd like one too. Join the fb group. Look at cat cc as a surgeon. I plan to use her

TheExchange · 26/04/2023 10:02

Any photos would be greatly appreciated. Has your tummy changed much since you had it done?

@MsDastardley I'm struggling to find UK Tummy Tuck on Facebook. Do you have a link?

stepMummY1 · 26/04/2023 12:41

TT will of course change over the years. I also have a belief that sometimes when you put weight on that it goes on weirdly after a TT.

shivawn · 26/04/2023 12:44

@Needanewnamebeingwatched Fab results, you must be really chuffed!

Hi, the full name is Uk Tummy Tucks, Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery Forum

Honest Tummy Tuck & Cosmetic Surgery Support Group UK is also useful

I got loads of useful information from these groups, and found my surgeon through recommendations there.
