Do any of you create your own work uniform?

I’ve spent the last 12 years wearing uniforms for various jobs and loved it. I’d line up the uniforms on coat hangers and add underwear/an extra layer/whatever and pick up one coat hanger every morning.

Now I’m in an office job with a few trips out of the office per week. I don’t need to be overly smart, merely casual-presentable. I was thinking to just buy two or three identical skirts and five identical tops and one or two cardigans. I also quite like the distinction between work clothes and non work clothes.

Does anyone else do this? Do you get bored? Is it in fact the perfect solution?

I do! I never wear my work clothes in the evenings or at weekends, I have 2 identical pairs of trousers and 2 identical skirts one black and one navy of each, plus 2 jackets, 3 cardigans and multiple shell tops in different colours. Also loafers and courts in black and navy and some black boots, ankle and knee length.

I have to travel a lot for work and this system also helps me to pack light.

I do too. I have identical cheap black dresses with accompanying underwear and hosiery which goes on the back of a chair ready to put on, so I never have to think about what to wear for work.

If I had to choose from the rest of my wardrobe I'd never make it out of the building.

I was in your position, and then left my uniformed job for a smart-casual role. I have a couple pairs of cropped tapered chinos, two jumpers, one cardigan, and then t-shirts that match. All the colours work together, so I just mix and match for work. Shoes are ballet pumps, boots or suede shoes that I vary depending on the weather.

If I'm WFH, then I'll simply swap out the bottoms for leggings. Evenings the PJs go on!

It really reduces the decision-making, and I'm all about saving brain energy.

I have a work wardrobe. Things I only wear to work mainly black or navy trousers & silk shirts & jackets. I'm fond of the whistles fitted jersey blazers & have them in a couple of colours.
The trousers are cropped wide leg, tapered with a turn up or 7/8ths.
I wear black laced up ankle boots or burgundy suede Chelsea boots or dark olive green leather loafers

I don't wear these clothes at weekends or going out in the evenings

Poblano · 23/04/2023 14:24

I do this.

I have 2 x ankle grazer black trousers, 2 x wide leg black trousers, 6 x blouses (same style just different colours or patterns), 2 blazers (1 grey, 1 beige), black brogues and black loafers. I just cycle through them in turn.

As PP said, having 6 blouses means I don't end up wearing the same one every Monday, for example.

I have a range of dresses I pretty much only wear for work. I wfh most of the time know.

I used to pre-pandemic just to save time thinking and had to be smart every shift (no jeans etc) but now work in a pretty casual office so incorporate all my normal clothes.
I enjoy mixing outfits up so just do a rough plan on a Sunday evening of what I'll wear that week.

Yes, mines very similar to @Poblano

And I used to think it was lazy but then I noticed my male colleagues basically wear navy and tan chinos, jumpers and shirts from Gant on repeat. I work in a male dominated sector about as far removed from fashion as you could get.

I used to need something that would carry over to attending Court, as well as being in the office or out on visits.
I had numerous colours of long waistcoat and harem trousers combinations, like the ones at Zarabesque, which flow and don't restrict movement , but are formal enough for all arenas.

VisionsOfSplendour · 23/04/2023 19:56

I've always done this, when I worked full time I had a rail of tips and bottoms that could be mix and matched so I didny always wear the same things together

Now I work part time and have 3 pairs of similar trousers and tops that go with any of them
