Help me find a denim jacket!!!! Feel a bit lost

I really want a denim jacket to wear over dresses. I tend to shop at Hush, Zara, and the like with an occasional treat from Me and Em-although just got a lovely broderie anglais dress from Sainsburys.

I don't have to be on the cover of Vogue-just not look wrong/dowdy.
I am a fairly conservative dresser. Would wear with with leather superga or Tiger Onisuka as recommended by mumsnet or birkenstocks.

I am 5'9, slightly top heavy size 14, 50's.

I'd be wearing with spring/summer dresses. I have tried various cardigan options and look like I am wearing a dressing gown and nightdress.

Try Dunnes Stores, they have 2 really nice ones at the moment, soft denim & true to size.

Mine is from Gap but it's not a recent purchase

I’ve always found H&M surprising reliable and good quality for denim jackets.

Next have just started doing a denim jacket for a fuller bust. I found it to a nicer fit than most I've tried.

Bought a lovely one from Simplybe £37.99

I have bought one today from TKMaxx that might fit the bill. The label is Curve Appeal and was displayed on the front return of the jackets rail as if it is a new stock item. It is a lovely flattering cut with front seams that curve in and a very subtle gathering on the sleeve/shoulder which softens the lines just a little. It is in a stretchy forgiving recycled denim. £25. And good functional pockets too!

I just bought a lovely denim jacket from White Stuff and it’s perfect on me - 43, size 14-16 with curvy figure (full hips and bust). The sizing is fairly generous so I managed to fit in a 14. I plan to wear it mainly over dresses.

I just got a denim jacket from Lucy and Yak and had so many compliments! It’s a lovely shape.

I have a good one from M&S. Nice shape and soft denim. Uniqlo and Gap often have good ones too.
I find the important thing for me is the length. It should be fairly short, so it hits my waist rather than my hips.

EasterIssland · 18/04/2023 21:33

Nice colour

Was coming on to say this. All
Denim jackets are not created equal. You need to know what you'll be wearing it with and where you want the hem to hit. If you carry your weight in your arse and hips you might be better with one that cuts off higher up.

The fashion at the moment is for them to be more generously proportioned, which also means longer. A traditional denim jacket is normally more snug fitting and slightly cropped. The PP's Levi's one above is a good example of a traditional fit.

Triffid1 · 18/04/2023 22:03

Mines from White Stuff. I tried similar ones on from joules and fat face but the sizing on the one i bought was best for me.

underseige05 · 18/04/2023 22:05

I have both a blue and black one from riverisland both have gorgeous collars and statement shoulders. They do loads of different styles though

I tried to order it but the site was playing up so I got 3 stretchy ones from M&S! Blue denim, lavender/lilac and yellow!

Niftythrifter · 19/04/2023 12:17

I just bought a basic one from Primark a few years back that is still going strong. You could look at Vinted/ charity shops too.

BornAWoman · 19/04/2023 14:18

They are often available in charity shops, and you'd probably be spoilt for choice on ebay.

FjordFancier · 20/04/2023 11:21

I just got a washed black waist length one from All Saints to wear with summer dresses.
I really struggled the last few years- I’ve got a reversible quilted short cotton jacket from Isabel Marant Etoile so I kept picking the side which clashed the least as it’s a print. Hoping the black denim will look a bit more current.
