Items you regret not buying...

This was several years ago now but Monsoon had the softest, green boiler suit/jumpsuit. I was a student at the time and couldn't justify it but I still think about it and regret not buying it.

Are there any items that you really regret not buying and now it's too late?

These from Marks & Spencer. I bought them in black as they would be more fucking versatile - but I wanted these! Sold out now 😢

An apartment in Balham circa 1999 😅

In terms of fashion, the Prada Cleo handbag before the recent 50% price increase.

Anyone else noticed that inflation has been a whole other ballgame with handbags?

Was it Du Cane Court @Usernamen ?

A rainbow chakra sun dress by Needle and thread

Ruffles of rainbowy loveliness

It was in the pandemic and £400, way too expensive to be just sitting in the garden on my own

O for a time machine

fedupsoccermum · 17/04/2023 21:45

Load of things. Most recently some m and a sandals I could have had for £25 on Vinted Sigh.
Some yellow leather sandals lake Garda 2001 too

Circa 1992. Was a toss up between 2 clubbing dresses. I went for a very short white one with mesh panels which to be fair I absolutely loved.
But the other classier dress was divine and would look good even now. Silver grey crushed velvet bodycon, with a kind of wrap ruched neckline. You put it on by stepping into it because it had a built in crotch so you didn't need to wear undies and had no vpl.
Of course I'd need the 1992 body to go with it...

A top from Pilot with a sunset print, seen in a magazine in about 1996. I have no idea why (it was nothing remotely special!), but I still think about it now. I've even searched eBay several times, to no avail.

SarahAndQuack · 17/04/2023 21:58

Almost always, the answer is a second copy of what I did buy.

Other than that ... a lovely silver full-length party dress by Damsel in A Dress, in 2014. It was called Bora Bora and it was so flattering and lovely. I tried it on eight days after I left my husband, on the morning of a life-changing job interview. It was amazing, but I told myself sternly I had bigger things to think about. Silly me!

Also, a gorgeous floor-length All Saints dress in a dark floral print (think Dutch Old Master florals). I bought the short version and I still love it more than a decade on (more than two?!). But the full-length one was a knockout.

A luxurious and extravagant silk green robe from Toast, sort of old Hollywood style

It was £369 and about 10 years ago, but I still regret not buying it

Also, last year, a yellow jumpsuit at &toast that had a nipped in waist and wide legs

Now toast only does Soviet Librarian Chjc and all the nice stuff is gone 🥲

FelicityFlops · 17/04/2023 22:10

A Max Mara dress 2 years ago. It was fabulous, but I dithered over sizes, ordered 2 different ones and sent both back. It suited me so well. I have a top and trousers in the same material, bnwt, which I will try to sell online. Too indecisive.

FiddleLeaf · 17/04/2023 22:13

My mulberry (& only designer bag). Bought 5 years ago & wore every other day. Still looks as good as new.

FiddleLeaf · 17/04/2023 22:15

Oh sorry, misread! Similar answer though, I’d go for a Mulberry Bayswater before the price went up!

LadyLapsang · 17/04/2023 22:16

Tickets for the Greenwich Millenium Party with Annie Lennox, tickets to see Kate Bush and a pure cashmere Loro Piana wrap coat in T K Maxx, although I did buy a The Row wool crepe dress which was simple and perfect.

LadyLapsang · 17/04/2023 22:18

And The Row dress was only £50. I dithered at £100, then it got reduced.

DelurkingAJ · 17/04/2023 22:35

A Stella McCartney trench coat. In the sale about 2003. I could have afforded it but talked myself out of it as it was a LOT of money for me then (about £150) but it was so beautiful and I regret it to this day. I scratched the itch with a (more expensive) Aquascutum affair about 10 years ago. Which I do love but…

DelurkingAJ · 17/04/2023 22:36

I’ve also just searched for it. If I’d kept it in ‘good’ condition it would have been worth more than I paid. Argh!

BetiYeti · 17/04/2023 22:41

A gorgeous Monsoon dress in 2009. I was shopping for a posh event and the assistant was helping me and recommended this dress. I ended up getting something else and I’m not sure why, I looked for the first dress on eBay some years later and never found it in my size.

Thisbastardcomputer · 17/04/2023 23:21

A blue leather longchamps Le pilage with coloured stripes down the centre, from a designer place in lanzorate

SD1978 · 17/04/2023 23:45

YSL never full. Can never afford it now, and wish I'd bought it when I could.

QuestionsFromThePublic · 17/04/2023 23:49

A Gucci watch, black leather wrap around strap.

BrendaRegina · 18/04/2023 03:44

I always buy three of anything I really like (I don't usually buy expensive clothes so this is affordable). I have three tops I love that I only have one of though, due either to them being expensive or not having more stock. It's always bothered me I don't have backups so last week I went on Ebay on the off-chance I might find even one of them in duplicate. I found all three - multiple times! Took a lot of searching but I saw loads of stuff I remember from years ago too from the same shops. Have a look if you're a regretter - you might just get as lucky as I did! And they were all so much cheaper than when they were in the shops too! £3 vs £40 for one of them! Such a high finding them!

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 18/04/2023 03:54

A pair of boots about eight years ago, they were the only casual boots I've seen that I liked. I still regret it and think of them often ....

GobbieMaggie · 18/04/2023 04:10

A few years ago I had the opportunity to buy a property on the Dorset coast for £350k. We had no mortgage on the house where lived so it was doable however my daughter was at private school and I was hesitant to take on more financial commitment. That house sold five years later for £859k. 😳
