I really like my Lucy and Yak Alexa trousers. I thought that the wide waistband would be uncomfortable (sensory issues - I don't like seams at my waist) but it was not. I completely forgot about it. I fluctuate between sizes 16 and 20, and the Large trousers fit me perfectly. And they've got decent pockets, too!

Uniqlo have all cotton trousers - up to xxl but don't know what that translates to in terms of U.K. sizing?

WashAsDelicates · 16/04/2023 12:12

I've also got some loose, straight, linen-viscose mix trousers with button-and-strap turn-ups from Mountain Warehouse. Very comfortable, like a lightweight linen. I got them a couple of years ago, though, so I don't know whether MW have them this year.

Niftythrifter · 16/04/2023 13:10

Not sure what they are made of https://www.very.co.uk/yours-washed-twill-wide-leg-black/1600862654.prd

Try Uniqlo. Size 20 here and I get all my clothes from them 😊

Not cotton and joggers, although could turn up and wouldn’t look like joggers. I would try them, even though not cotton, if they were in black, and the mix might be nice of linen and viscose. Will keep an eye on the Sainsbury’s page , thanks. I do like the shape !

Looking at the measurements , it looks like an 18 equivalent . It’s a shame as I quite like some items they sell.

Another poster says she's size 20 and gets all her stuff from there?

MoiraRoseForever · 16/04/2023 23:25

I’m a 22 , sometimes 24 . I’ve looked at their measurements . They might just about be a 20 . But I need larger , sadly. I’ve also been in the shops and looked at the largest sizes and they ate too small .

That was in reply to people saying Uniqlo goes up to 20 .

I’m a 22, in some places might need 24 depending on the type of clothes and the general fit of that brand . Be looked at the measurements and the largest seem tk equate to an 18 or perhaps 20 . That’s sadly too small for me .

Thanks for all the ideas . I will also look at linen mix . Linen sometimes isn’t soft , but with the right mix it might work for me . And also I’m looking at different shapes and not just baggy . So thanks .

it’s helped me think of options !

I have had the Lucy and yak Alexa trousers and have the billie cords. Am a short 18 with weight on tummy and thighs especially. I also have sensory issues so really yearn for soft cotton.

Neither pair really flatter. They are generous in size but where a jersey fabric would skim, the stiffer fabric sort of billows and puffs out.

I prefer the cords (I worse them yesterday in fact). They are softer feel and if I can be arsed to style them properly, whilst not flattering they can look ok in a sort of hippy pottery teacher way.

The alexas are pure evil. If you are heavy of thigh like I am, the excess fabric sort of scrunches between them and the seams rub as the material is stiff. There are a few reviews which mention this issue. My last straw was wearing them in the rain and the wet cotton rubbed my thighs so much it made them bleed. I washed them and sold on vinted the next day.

I’ve got these from Fat Face. Really lovely lightweight non-stiff trousers. Worth a look OP. (I wouldn’t really call them joggers either)

Just had a look, can see a few I like.

how do they size, generous or true to size ? I find sizes vary so much across brands !

thanks.

That’s really helpful. Stiff cotton and lots of it isn’t a good combo !

I’m not sure “hippy pottery teacher” is quite the vibe I’m looking for , so thanks for the image , made me laugh ! I’d love more the Scandi Architect vibe, but I think I’d need to be tall and slim to pull that off and more likely to look like a plump hippy pottery teacher!

Wish they were black, or a dark grey or blue . I’m not a brown tone person. But a taking a good look at the site .

H&M have loads. I like the linen joggers( misnamed) at £29.99. I find their plus sizes slightly over generous in trousers, but the reviews are helpful. I’m an 18 but buy L in H&M.

Quinque · 17/04/2023 08:40

Fatface sizes are usually generous.
Their sale has just started which could be worth a look.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/04/2023 08:57

Marks wide leg linen trousers are good. They also have high waist cotton ankle grazers which are loose but not massively baggy.

DorisParchment · 17/04/2023 09:16

Have a look at Landsend. I got a couple of pairs of loose fitting linen trousers from there last summer. I have straight ones and wide leg. The linen gets softer with wear, and they have a drawstring waist. They also do soft cotton jersey trousers, which are comfortable and look quite smart.
