What do you wear on your legs with a short dress

At this time of year?

Black tie party. Bare legs? The dress is quite short which isn’t my usual 50 year old style..

Interested to see the replies to this as I also find this a real conundrum!

Chewbecca · 15/04/2023 09:24

What shoes?

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 15/04/2023 09:26

I'd wear tights. Black tie is normally longer style dresses

Mumblechum0 · 15/04/2023 09:27

Wouldn’t do bare legs (unless they’re perfect, ie fab shape, lightly tanned, no veins etc) for a black tie party.

depending on colour of dress and shoes I’d wear sheer tights

thedevilinablackdress · 15/04/2023 09:27

Really depends on the dress, shoes, overall look.
Could be 60D, could be e.g. 30D.

TitInATrance · 15/04/2023 09:29

I wear nylons at this time of year - definitely for any occasion that requires a high heel. Possibly sparkly or high-shine tights if the dress can take it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 15/04/2023 09:30

It's cold so tights!

NotNowMartha · 15/04/2023 09:31

Bare legs. I wear short dresses a lot and always bare legs. I do moisturise/lightly oil them so they dont look dry. Or occasionally hold ups. Depends on the dress really.

Allschoolsareartschools · 15/04/2023 09:34

Tights, nude sheer ones if you're wearing shoes as well.
If you're planning sandals then I'd wear something a bit longer.
Bare legs & short dress could be hard work, thinking tan etc

GettingStuffed · 15/04/2023 09:35

Bare legs, I hate tights, if I'm cold I wear leggings tucked into ankle boots

Fudgewomble · 15/04/2023 09:39

Traditional black tie is a long evening gown as I understand it (I got told off at work for wearing a cocktail length dress to a black tie event). But I’d wear sheer tights not bare legs.

HasaDiga · 15/04/2023 09:57

It’s a party not an obligation function but my legs whilst tanned are certainly not perfect. Dress is mid thigh which for me is very short. Sparkly, with sandals

I think I’d perhaps better buy an assortment and try..

Personally I would never ever wear an open toe sandal/shoe with tights (of any variety). So that would dictate bare legs to me or else different footwear.

TheFlis12345 · 15/04/2023 10:00

With open toed shoes you should go bare legs, toe seams on show is a terrible look!

Chewbecca · 15/04/2023 10:09

Has to be bare legged with that combi. Fake tan / Sally Hansen leg make up.

AgnesGray · 15/04/2023 10:12

I'd actually go for sheer / skin colour tights. I know some people think they're the worst, but I like them myself. It used to be opaques or nothing round these parts 😆. But I think sheer / nude are ok now

AgnesGray · 15/04/2023 10:13

Oh hang on...open toed shoes? You have to do bare legs then I think. Agree with leg make up

QueueEtwo · 15/04/2023 10:15

You can buy tights with open toes for sandals - I've worn them loads of times!

QueueEtwo · 15/04/2023 10:16

Primark do some oiled natural tan tight that are amazing! Look just like your legs but better!

Ooooo that's really good to know! Thanks for that

Catshaveiteasy · 15/04/2023 10:18

Hate tights but also hate my legs so I'd go for tights (you have to suffer sometimes). But with sandals you'd have to manipulate them to hide the toe seam. I have some partly open high heeled shoes (so semi sandal look) that I use on these occasions.

Any chance of low heels/ boots, I'd probably wear light leggings unless they didn't suit the dress.

NatashaDancing · 15/04/2023 10:22

Sheer tights. I'd never go bare legged to a black tie event.

Same here but it would be the footwear which changes rather than bare legs.

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/04/2023 10:26

I don't think bare legs and short dress are suitable for a black tie event unless, possibly, outside in high summer.Tights and different footwear would be my thought.

Greenfairydust · 15/04/2023 10:30

I am always amazed at the self-hating messages women absorb about their bodies.

There is no need for your legs to be tanned/perfect for goodness sake...

Back to you OP: wear what makes you feel comfortable/suits your style not what you think fashion dictates you should look like...
