Light summer coat, hold me back from the floral raincoats!

Like other posters on here I'm trying to be more strategic about what I buy and wear, spending more on good quality clothes which won't look cheap or dated in a year.

(Though I suspect the long padded gilet I bought may date - but I've got a metric shittonne of wear out of it, so I'm still happy!).

I need a long, lightweight coat for rainy spring/summer days. Please stop me from buying the Orla Kiely waterproof macs
https://www.regatta.com/orla-kiely-waterproof-mac-navy-passion-flower/
as they are pretty but would make me look like an oversized three-year-old!

Aside from wanting to be steered towards something suitable for a grown-up woman, the other issue is that I have a classic British pear shape, I'm not overweight but nor am I willowy.
So belted trenches I'm a bit wary of ;)

I do spend a lot of time outside so it has to be genuinely well made and weatherproof.

Sort of thing a head of Finance or Legal might wear for a rainy June walk back to the station or taking her mother's ancient dog out for some exercise?

Isle Jacobsen raincoats are gorgeous, I've had mine for 6 years and it was well worth the money, it's still like brand new

A few of this brand in the sale section of Next online. Just got a long raincoat in olive. Wasn't even looking for a raincoat until I saw this thread!

mumtohatty · 09/05/2023 22:11

@Bumblebeelane I hope you're not going to end up costing me money!! (Runs to Next online 😂)

Noooo that red one has Hayley Cropper vibes!

I have 3 protected species coats. They are absolutely fab. Can highly recommend.

Ooh I think that one is my favourite from the thread, and matches what OP is asking for!

Paperbagsaremine · 10/05/2023 14:52

Are the Protected Species ones fairly lightweight and unlined? Lined trenches are a bit heavy for what I'm looking for (late Spring - early Autumn, just rain protection rather than warmth).

I tried a PS trench and mac, and yes, they're lightweight. I asked customer service before I ordered them and they said they're good up to about 20 degrees but then might be a bit warm.
(I sent them back because the fit wasn't right, but that's because I have an awkward shape and size!)

Anyone remember Duster Coats? All the fashion once upon a time. Full length lightweight cotton coats, not raincoats.

FayCarew · 10/05/2023 16:50

with big padded shoulders

I love these threads!
💦💦💦

However, I am not slim and athletic but chubby and have a bad leg!
☺️

I always think when I win the lottery I will buy a share in a rainwear manufacturer and insist on helping to design stylish yet practical waterproof coats for the large of nork and big of bum.

I have some lovely wool coats, the shape of which would look amazing in fabric like the Protective Species designs.

I have a Cotton Traders mid calf coat for walking the dog.
In it I look like a hobbit who has chosen wellies not furry feet.

The Perfect Waterproof Coat is one of the my lottery dreams.

I just got a blue ilse Jacobson on next clearance. Oops!

OP's update to old thread
Got a Protected Species trenchcoat in the summer. Got VERY VERY rained on in it today.

Stayed dry
Good recommendation folks, thanks.

I've just bought this men's one from Uniqlo (I'm taller than your average Japanese woman, so often buy the men's stuff from Uniqlo). I LOVE it.
